AVUV and SPMO working against one another?

In doing a bit of research on my portfolio some interesting concepts arose. Apparently some think that if you have both a mid-cap value fund, such as AVUV, combined with a mega-cap momentum fund, such as SPMO, then they will actually work against one another.

I own both in my portfolio and haven't seen this (if SPMO is green, AVUV is red kinda thing). Does anyone here have a take on this?

Cento hot pepper relish, fresh white onion, coarse ground smoked porter mustard, dill relish, French's yellow, sweet+hot on top.

Jumbo Nathan's is in there somewhere.

I own a 2023 Limited and wondering about gas mileage

Hey everyone, proud owner of a 2023 Limited, 2.3L engine, for almost 2 years now.

I've noticed that the gas mileage it gets is pretty sub-par, which hovers around 21mpg for the most part.

My 2017 F-150 averaged about the same, same with my 2018 F-150 I used to drive to work.

Now I drive a 2025 Ranger and it averages about 24mpg.

Just wondering if this is normal for my model and trim and if I just need to live with it. Or if there is something I can do about it (aside from driving better).

Thanks guys

Curious what some people have as their core positions besides the typical ones.

Looking to hear from those who AREN'T holding the popular ones, i.e. VT, SCHD, SPMO, VOO, etc.

What is your rationale for doing so? How long have you had it and how well has it performed? How do anticipate it to perform in the future?

The Democratic party is to blame for us having Trump as president.

I am a registered democrat and typically vote as such. I try not to live in the past, but I see the Democratic party fumble the ball every time it comes to picking a candidate. Kamala Harris was obviously a horrible choice. Nobody was excited about her. Uncle Joe wasn't much stronger, IMO. I liked his presidency, however, and thought his administration was quite effective, regardless of him being a walking corpse. I'm just saying they could have gotten a better candidate or at least planned for a better one.

But nothing compares to their incredibly horrible judgement when it came to picking Hillary Clinton over Bernie Sanders. The country was obviously wanting someone who would shake things up, and put people's feet to the fire. Hillary was not that person. Bernie was. So was Trump. He was the best person to unite people and beat Trump at the time, and I honestly feel like things would be much different if the DNC hadn't been so spineless in 2016. This was the moment that started it all, in my opinion.

I'm happy to hear other opinions on this, unless it's going to whiny hateful ranting and name-calling. Let's keep it civil please.

Need advice. Decking is warping and needs to be reinforced somehow.

Hello everyone, looking for some help with this small area of decking in my backyard.

The trex decking is not supported very well here and I need to reinforce it somehow.

I am thinking a thin sheet of composite, resin, or hdpe placed in between the posts and the decking will help support it. I just don't know if this is the best approach. If I went this route I don't know which would provide the same support.

Any advice is most welcome here.

Thanks everyone

Has plugged their portfolio into Google AI?

I just did it and I got some pretty nice, seemingly unbiased information and perspective. It even gave me specific ways that it will most likely need rebalancing every year to improve stability and slowly shift weight toward a less volatile allocation as I age.

I mostly took it with a grain of salt, but I was pretty impressed at how it was able to analyze it.

When people judgily ask you, "Are you okay?"

They usually intend to show concern for you, but they can't help but show their shittiness and obviously have a tone of judgement behind it.

Anyone know any female golf pros in the area who do lessons?

Looking to up my game and I have had lessons with male trainers before. Looking to try and see if a female golf pro would help me fine-tune my swing, and offer a more personalized touch as opposed to the "my way or the highway" approach I've had thus far.

Is anyone here eyeing a market correction and adjusting their ___ and chill portfolio?

I've got a fairly bullish portfolio with a focus on diversification.

55% VT

15% AVUV

15% GARP

15% SPMO

My intent is for a set-it-and-forget it setup, and trying to avoid volatility. But I'm wondering if smarter people on here are shifting allocations into bonds, managed futures, commodities, etc, in anticipation of a large correction/bear market.

I keep seeing things regarding Buffet's overvaluation indicators and other crap that I maybe shouldn't be giving the time of day, but that's why I'm asking here.

Fast food lovers: what os the fast food chain you just can't bring yourself to appreciate at all?

For me it's Chipotle. It just sucks. Everything is always cold. The flavor isn't anything spectacular. It's just not something I ever want.

EDIT: ...and I forgot the biggest reason I just won't eat there. Because, if I'm wanting mexican food I am definitely not going to fucking Chipotle for it.

Rate my portfolio please and thank you.

-40yo

--170k/year

--US

-Would like to have low-management brokerage for short term growth + savings

-Would like to have 2M+ saved for retirement

- Risk tolerance: 5 or 6

-Total portfolio $12.5k

4 funds (rounded):

SPMO 14%

VT 54%

AVUV 14%

GARP 18%

-100k in cash

-400k in real estate equity

-Has employer-sponsored profit-sharing (trust): about 107k, appreciates at about 13-14% per year

-Roth IRA : 12.5k, contributing $800 a month

-HSA: 6K, not currently invested. Contributing max, will invest 5k once 15k mark hit

-Student Loans: ~60k

-Morgage: $2.5k per month

-Car: $400 per month

-Credit card debt: none

-investment time horizon: looking to retire around 62-67 (22-27 years)

-no major financial events

-----------------------

Looking for advice on whether my Roth IRA positions make sense with my goals. I am looking for decent growth with strong diversification and a stable set-it-and-forget-it outlook, with possible rebalancing once every one or two years.

Also wondering if I should follow similar strategy with HSA once I have enough saved to begin investing with it.

Once IRA maxed, should I just invest in brokerage? If so, what kind of approach to take? Currently using Acorns base account for round-ups and to funnel funds. Should I keep brokerage there or funnel funds to my Fidelity brokerage?

Am I not hedging enough in my Roth? Are these ETFs and the allocation not stable or diversified enough?

Thanks everyone.

People who point out, "that's your opinion".

No shit sherlock. I am well aware that my opinion is, in actuality, my opinion.

I'm not saying there aren't people who need to be checked in this regard, but at least wait until the conversation/debate has reached a point where this needs to be pointed out.

If a person is arguing their opinion hard enough that they are forcing it on you as objective fact, then go ahead, remind them. But if that's your go-to when having a disagreement or debate then you are just having a cop-out while thinking it's a tool or flex to weaponize. And you look kinda dumb, IMO.

On this episode of *Movies I Couldn't Finish* -- Wuthering Heights (2026)

I am open to any period film, really. The stories are timeless, the characters somewhat predictable yet written well, and the scenery is a cozy feast for the eyes.

Within the first 20 seconds of Emerald Fennel's Wuthering Heights it was apparent that this filmmaker wants to be shocking, interesting, original, and subvert expectations. Yet, within the first 20 minutes it was apparent that this film is anything but shocking, interesting, or original. And based on the expectations set in the beginning of the film, it doesn't measure up, even, to the standards it set for itself in the first 20 seconds.

What a stupid ass film. The hyper-stylization of it is distracting at best, and completely took me out of the story. The overt sexualization and crassness was tasteless, dull, and performative. At no point did it feel like I wasn't watching a bunch of actors 'acting'.

I'm just glad we decided to turn it off when we did or else that would have been a couple hours of my life I would never get back.

I have a hot dog dilemma. What's better? Regular mustard with sweet relish or sweet mustard with dill relish?

The mustard purist in me says, "mustard first and mustard always", so the first choice seems the right choice. But a good, fresh dill relish is tough to beat. I also love a good sweet (and hot) mustard.

I'm so confused! What should I do?

40yo looking to create a simple set it and forget it ETF portfolio focused on moderate growth/stability.

Like the title, I am looking to keep it to three, maybe four ETFs that align with a healthy balance of growth and stability. Right now my portfolio has about 17 ETFs and I need to pare it down for sanity's sake.

--------------

I know I want to go heavy on QQQM and either VOO, VT, or VUG. The latter will depend on what my third or fourth choice becomes.

--------------

Looking for another one, maybe two to throw in the mix. Maybe go the small/mid cap route (IJR, VBR or IJH, IWR, VO?) or maybe go the international route (IXUS, SCHF, IEFA, AVDV, GSEE?)

--------------

I don't want much overlap (though a little is fine), and I want to keep the ones I stated as my core, but am open to including around 20-30% of something else. I'd like to keep ER down, but if it's a fund worth buying then I'm open to it. I also dont mind rebalancing every few years, so it doesn't have to be completely set it and forget it.

--------------

Any advice or guidance is much appreciated.

I went in at lunch time, just after noon. I was the only customer in there and it didn't seem like they were busy with any to-go or online orders. Kitchen was quiet.

What's the deal, SLC? I love this place! They even kept a lot of the same menu items, ingredients, and methods as the previous establishment, Grinders 13, which was an SLC institution since the early 70's.

Their cheesesteak is the best I've had, and their fries are incredible.

Please tell me we're not gonna let this great place go the way of the dodo!
