Soooooo many AI slop Linnie care books now. Anyone have any recs for a real book?

I like to read actual paper books in bed before sleeping (save my brain from too much screen time!) so I was thinking of trying to find a nice Linnie book that I could page through casually.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0G4WCKFWS
I found this book on Amazon but the cover looked suspiciously like AI. When I then looked at the author page for this guy "Donald Regina" (probably a pseudonym) ( https://www.amazon.com/stores/DONALD-REGINA/author/B0GCNJFBJJ ) he has a million books all about different pet species. Omg, the AI slop is horrible and taking over everything.

I almost want to buy one just so that I can write a review saying it's total AI slop!!!

I found another book on Walmart that is similar AI slop by a "Logan O.D. Morgan" who also has a million books about random pets. Definitely AI. How could this guy be an expert on all of these different animals? It's terrible.

Do you trim your Linnie's nails yourself, or have a groomer do it?

I have previously mainly had our vet trim the nails, or the groomer. However, I'm considering trying to do it myself mainly due to costs and convenience (groomer is far away).

I used to trim my cockatiel's nails (years and years ago, he's since passed) but they seemed much larger footed and easier to work with for some reason.

  • Curious if other linnie parents trim their birb's nails, or if you have a groomer/vet do it?
  • And, if you have the groomer do it, about how much do you pay per trim?

New "Folder Upload" on Google Photos website - will it recognize duplicates that were already uploaded by Google Drive desktop app?

Given that Google Drive is sadly phasing out its Google Photos backup (damn you Google! why the hell would you do this?!) on August 10th....

I need to know - if I have a folder that's been backed up by Google Drive desktop app to Google Photos, and then I add MORE photos to the folder after August 10th - if I do the new "Folder backup" option on the Google Photos website, will it only upload the NEW pics?

Wondering if having toxic MAGA parents has had an effect of keeping me on the fence.

Struggling to find common ground and a healthy adult relationship with them. I think I would look forward to having an adult child. But every time I have a horribly toxic interaction with my own parents, it makes me reconsider the value of this. Does every generation feel this way about their parents? Even if I’m the best parent, would this still be the future outcome, especially with the way the world is going?

Found cute lil house mouse

About two days ago, I found a little house mouse that was sick on the floor of the parking garage of our apartment complex. He was ataxic and very weak, stumbling around. He let me just scoop him up and didn’t even try to run.

I put him in a box and fed/watered him, and he’s now doing a lot better. He ate all the food and has been pooping and peeing.

Hopefully, he continues to improve. I think he might have been poisoned. He’s still weak though so will keep him another 1-2 days. FYI I did reach out to several wildlife rehabbers near me but because he is a house mouse, he is considered vermin and they would just euthanize him if I brought him in for care. I am afraid to just give him away to a random home because I worry he will be used as food for someone's reptile or something.

I’m trying to decide where to release him.

I could release him in a big beautiful nasturtium ivy bed behind our apartment complex, but this is relatively near the traps that I think poisoned him to begin with.

I could also release him a few miles away in a big park with lots of bushes. I’ve seen many rodents here. But there are also lots of birds of prey (I guess they wouldn’t be around if rodents weren’t doing well though.) I also read online that it might be better to release him closer to his original home, but I’m worried he will just be poisoned again and die.

Or should I keep him as a pet 😜😜😜 jk… he is cute though.

Thanks for viewing my temporary cutie 🤩

Suggestions for secondhand charms in SF Bay Area CA

I would really love to start hunting for some secondhand charms. I buy mostly new from
Website, sometimes used online if it looks real, but I would like to browse secondhand in person.

Anyone have any good recs for specific stores in Bay Area that carry used Pandora?

Thanks in advance 😘💫

Sitting around in dirty scrubs

My husband and I are both ER doctors. We are exposed to lots of germs and sick people and dirty conditions all day.

During Covid, my husband would give me the hardest time if I did not immediately strip out my scrubs the second I walked thru the door. We developed a habit where we would change out of our contaminated scrubs and shower as soon as we got home.

Fast forward a few years to present day, where Covid isn’t such a big deal anymore. My husband has gotten into the habit of coming home and just lying all over the couch, using the kitchen, sitting on dining table, etc all in his scrubs for an hour or two after work. I still change and shower right away. It grosses me out that his scrubs- which he wore and touched all manner of people and bodily fluids with - are all over our furniture and cooking area every day.

I mentioned it to him gently tonight and suggested that he might feel more refreshed if he showered and that his scrubs were dirty. Cue yelling about how I’m a bossy bitch, and now he’s not talking to me.

Is it me?! Other healthcare folks pls chime in….

Looking for your experiences on USACS in DC metro area?

My partner is taking a new job at the FDA and we are relocating to be closer to family. Looking for other ED docs' experiences working for USACS in the DMV. Currently work at a democratic group in the Midwest.

Insurance for midterm rental that I would also personally use for a few months per year?

Not an STR as they are not allowed in my area for my type of building/unit.

Ideally, plan to rent for 30-60-90 day stays. I'd like to reserve use of the condo for a few blocks of weeks (maybe a total of 6-8 weeks per year) when we have family events in the area or when using it for personal vacation.

If I am still using the condo for personal use some of the time, do I need to a regular homeowner's policy with some sort of landlord coverage? Or do I need to switch to something like Proper Insurance?

If you are a fencesitter (esp in your mid/late 30s like me!), did having an abortion help clarify things for you?

Had an abortion a few months ago due to being unsure. I am 37 and married, no kids, husband also a fencesitter. Many emotions since then both including regret, relief, continued questioning, etc.

However I think having an abortion and the subsequent emotional rollercoaster helped me to see that perhaps I DO want to have a child in the near future. I had been fencesitting hard before this and I am grateful for this tiny bit of partial clarity.

Wondering if anyone else had a similar experience, and how to deal with the absolute potpourri of anxieties that comes along with it :(

I’m looking into installing a Navien tankless Combi-Boiler in my old walk-up condo. The existing unit is extremely old and must go.

I was quoted about $12k for everything including the unit, vent work, etc.

seems a bit high to me but not sure what the going rate is. willing to pay a bit more for quality service and installation though.
