Best lift in Australia?

What is the best lift in Australia based on the terrain that one single lift opens up?

Use whatever criteria you deem appropriate.

My vote is Heavenly Valley at Hotham.

It opens up so much terrain. Intermediate and advanced. Below the tree line so you’ve got good visibility most of the time.

I actually think it stands head and shoulder above everything else but if I was pushed, I’d probably include in a top 3:

2 - Kosciusko Express / Thredbo
3 - Blue Ribbon / Hotham

With apologies to Bull Run chair at Buller and International at Falls.

What’s your number 1 lift and why?

2 decent seasons this decade 🥲

With Covid impacting 2020 and 2021 and poor snow in 2023, 2024 and now 2026, is it fair to say the Australian ski industry has only had 2 good seasons out of the last seven?

When you consider 2017, 2018 and 2019 were all excellent, it feels like we are going through a very flat spot.

How are alpine businesses surviving? What is maintaining alpine property prices?

Surely we are close to seeing a pretty significant capitulation and exit from business operators and property owners?

Provence/Cote D’Azur or Sardinia for 12 nights next July

Planning a family holiday with wife and 2 kids (13 & 15) next July. 🏖️

Sardinia
Santa Teresa Gallura & Cala Gonone

Provence/Cote D’Azur
Lourmarin & Antibes

We like experiential, active, food-focused. Prefer islands, beaches, and mountains over cities. Informal dining, local markets, hiking, and attending sporting events. Avoids over-programmed itineraries.

Summer essentials: Beaches, clear water, swimming, snorkelling, cycling, boat trips, casual restaurants, live music, walks

Which one do you think would be better for us?

Best beaches/coves

I’m investigating a 10 day coastal trip between Marseille and Menton with wife and kids (13 & 15).

What are the best beaches and coves to visit on the coast?

Not looking for beach clubs. More beautiful places to swim, read a book, get some lunch.

We will have a car.

Best Swiss places that start with the letter L

What is the best Swiss city/town or village that starts with L?

Is that place better than the best Swiss city/town or village that starts with Z?

Should I research other letters as part of my upcoming trip or will L and Z be sufficient? 🇨🇭🇨🇭🇨🇭

Snow anxiety 😬

Is anyone getting sick of snow anxiety?

I’m not sure I can take much more of it. Might be easier to pick up a new interest, like fishing or sudoku.

I’m still traumatised by 2023 & 2024, don’t do it to me again 2026 ❄️

I Went To The Mountains To Learn How To Ski - I Found Something Much Better

I agree with this now. As I’ve gotten older, 50 now, I’ve come to appreciate that while I love skiing, I particularly love just being in the high country amongst the snow gums.

Does anyone else feel this way?

One last holiday for life

Imagine you can go on one final 3 week overseas holiday for the rest of your life, where would you go and why?

I think I’d go hiking and relaxing in Switzerland in June or maybe the Dolomites.

Where would you go?

MMM accuracy testing

MMM is growing rapidly with new players like Mutinex entering the market. I was talking a former client today and we wondered about the question below:

Has MMM ever been independently validated as a forecasting tool?

MMM models forecast what ROI will result if certain budget decisions are made. Has anyone seen research where those forecasts were then tracked against actual outcomes to test accuracy?

Feels like a glaring gap but curious if I’m missing something.

Marketing tactics

I’ve recently started a B2B media advisory business, helping marketers to capture value by strengthening media governance.

My prospecting activity has largely been outreach to clients via email, phone and text.

I’ve had opinion pieces published in trade press and have been regularly posting content on LinkedIn and it feels this is effective at driving awareness but it’s not resulting in in-bound leads.

I’m interested in perspectives on the relative merit of investing in things like the below to drive inbound leads:

Google Paid Search
LinkedIn Premium
LinkedIn Sales Navigator
LinkedIn Boosted Posts

My ICP is businesses spending $5M to $25M on paid advertising, across digital and traditional media, who work with a media agency, preferably a HoldCo. In my country 🇦🇺, there’s probably about 100 of these, so it’s not a market of 1,000s.

I’d love any thoughts/perspectives.

People say it’s cheaper to ski Japan than Australia. Have they costed a ski trip to Japan for a family of 4 lately?

I can’t see how you get much change out of $25K for a 7 day trip to Niseko with a day or two in Tokyo. In reality it’s probably $30K+ with transfers and equipment hire.

I can’t see much accomm for less than $1K per night. I suppose we could save some money by flying Garuda via Jakarta 😬

What am I doing wrong?
