Hello! I’m from New Zealand and would love to find someone to be my new Asian penpal. I know most of the majority of reddit is American based so most of my penpals are of US origin but I’d really like to spice it up a bit and have a genuine culture exchange. I can speak a bit of Japanese and started learning Korean. But open to learning any language.

I love to write long letters with my typewriter and usually send stickers, stationery, flower pressed art, Polaroids, assorted everyday trinkets and playlists that I burn onto CDs (you’d be amazed with how much I can fit in an envelope!).

Okay so I’ve messaged so many people who have posted looking for a penpal. I can see that they will accept my chat request and just ignore me. Please, if you’re not interested just tell me instead of ignoring me. There are a few posts where people repeatedly say that they have tried hard to find people to talk to and make friends yet I’ve messaged them like a week ago from them posting 😅.

As for actual snail mail, well with those that I’ve had a great connection with and spent time sending messages and snail mail, please just tell when you’re no longer interested instead of me sending mail and getting ghosted. It takes a lot of time, effort and money. I enjoy this hobby but I don’t enjoy being ignored and ghosted.

Tbh, I’ve found that the most effective penpal relationships are the ones where there is a mix of messaging AND snail mail, so I will try this approach more. I won’t message anyone anymore but if you are interested, feel free to DM me instead. Thank you

I’ve been searching for a friend the last few years now. People come and go. Some ghost and others already have a large enough social circle. However, I just want one friend. I’ve gone to great lengths to make friends from joining various online networks to joining social clubs in my city.

I am 25, M from New Zealand, but an old man at heart. I Like to refurbish and resell vintage typewriters. I also use a typewriter to write letters and journal entries. I like listening to music on cassette + recorders my own playlists, watching + recording + digitising VHS tapes, doing ham radio stuff + Morse code, penpal writing - sending and receiving letters internationally, paper crafts, tinkering with tech, going to flea markets + thrift shops and travelling.

I’d prefer a genuine yet reciprocal deep connection rather than a surface level friendship. DM me if you’d be interested!

I know this may not appear to the majority of the audience but I’m hoping to find at least one single person that would be interested in exchanging cassette tapes, letters and also practice and exchange Morse code messages over the air!

I got my amateur radio licence yesterday which, in this context, means I can send messages over radio. However this hobby seems majorly common in the older population which I find is difficult to make friends with. I’d so love to learn Morse code with someone (I only know half the alphabet at the moment).

I’d also like to exchange mixtapes which of course you can’t do with an envelope but it’s still possible with a cheap SD card which is what I usually do with some of my penpals. I love to receive mixtapes and record them onto my tape deck! Did you know you can also store photos on cassette and play them back to your phone to view?! Well I do that too!

Of course writing letters is something I enjoy as well. I always type on my vintage typewriter which can make me write for hours as it gets me in the zone! I love to send little trinkets and assortments too as well as paper crafts. So I definitely go above and beyond.

I recently had to end contact with a penpal as they crossed boundaries multiple times which hurt me and they did not show remorse and kept refusing to apologise. We were close friends from sending a few letters back and fourth as well as phone calls. So it's sad that it needed to end.
Would anyone like to be my new best friend? Hopefully we share the same interests and can shares good conversations and banter. (This post has been removed many times and I’m not sure how to get it approved)
