Need honest advice: I got into IIM Bangalore's BSc (Hons) in Data Science and also BMSCE CSE. Which would you choose in 2026?

Hi everyone,

I'm in a genuine dilemma and would really appreciate advice from people who have experience in academia or the tech industry.

I recently got the offer letter to IIM Bangalore's BSc (Hons) in Data Science, and at the same time I also have admission to BMS College of Engineering (BMSCE), Bengaluru, in Computer Science Engineering (CSE).

Initially, I was completely sure that I'd pursue engineering. BMSCE is a Tier-1 engineering college in Karnataka with a strong reputation, and getting CSE there felt like the obvious choice.

But now that I've received the IIM Bangalore offer, I'm confused.

My biggest concern is not prestige—it's which path will make me more relevant by the time I graduate in 2030.

With AI changing software engineering so rapidly, I'm wondering:

  • Will a traditional CSE degree still provide the best opportunities?
  • Does IIM Bangalore's Data Science program prepare students better for the future?
  • Is the curriculum industry-relevant enough?
  • How do employers view this degree compared to a B.Tech in CSE?
  • If you had these two options today, which would you choose and why?

I've attached screenshots of the IIM Bangalore curriculum so you can judge the course itself instead of relying on the brand name.

I'm specifically looking for opinions from:

  • Professors
  • Recruiters
  • Software engineers
  • Data scientists
  • People working in AI/ML
  • Anyone who has been through similar career decisions

Please don't tell me to choose one just because it's an IIM or just because it's engineering. I'd really appreciate objective reasoning about long-term career prospects, employability, flexibility, higher studies, and future-proofing.

I'm a student from South Bengaluru who has just finished 12th grade, and I'm currently working on my very first short film.

It's a psychological thriller (not a romance), and I'm looking for a few people who are interested in acting and would be excited to be part of an independent short film project.

You don't need any prior acting experience. If you've always wanted to try acting but never had the chance, that's completely fine. Since this is my first short film as well, I'm happy to work with beginners who are willing to learn and have fun with the process. This is currently a passion project, so the roles are unpaid, but everyone involved will receive full credits and footage for their portfolio

The Outliers | A South Bangalore community for students done with 12th + entrance exams

So most of us just spent the last 2 years in one of the most isolating and high-pressure phases of life — 12th, KCET, JEE, coaching, exams, repeat cycles, burnout, and basically disappearing from normal human civilisation.

Now exams are done, college counselling/admissions are taking their own sweet time and also with the re-NEET exam, the counselling process is going to be delayed, and a lot of us suddenly have this weird in-between phase where we’re free, restless, bored, and honestly looking for better ways to spend the next few months before engineering starts.

So I’m starting The Outliers.

A South Bangalore-based community for students who:

  • just passed 12th / 2nd PUC this year and are now waiting to start engineering college

The idea is simple:
Instead of rotting at home and doomscrolling for 3 months, why not actually meet new people, make friends, explore interests, and do fun + meaningful things before college starts?

I've scored 135 in kcet and 292 in boards. Some say its under 3k and some say its under5k or 6k. Honestly, idek whom to believe at this point. I need to know what colleges i get so that i can decide whether to focus on comedk or the Improvement exam. Help kardo bhaijaan!
