Heya!
I've managed to find the time to continue writing about my story here, work's been killing me these past few days, sorry!
I'll continue from where i left off. For anyone who hasnt read the first part here's the link.
https://www.reddit.com/r/nosleep/s/xA5QVHSUx6
Also, i've decided i'll call myself Jack, and my brother Mark, to make this easier for me.
These are not our real names, obviously...
Anyways, here we go.
As i stare at the TV talk about that misterious man, my face scrunches up a bit in disgust as they show his closeup shot.
One of his eyes was almost bulging out of his eye socket, his lips were unnaturaly big and barely managed to contain his drool, and to top it all off it looked like he was missing the right side of his skull, leaving only skin to cover everything underneath.
It was disgusting to say the least, but i was unable to look away, until a punch on my shoulder and a high pitched "Hey!" bring me back to reality.
"Oh, right, Gumball.."
A shiver runs down my spine as i look at that man one last time, finally changing the channel.
The rest of the night went as you'd expect. I had dinner, got in my pjs and went to bed, and although i had some trouble falling asleep after what i had seen on TV, after about 30 minutes of whining and a kiss on the forehead from my mother, i had fallen soundly asleep.
But the feeling never really went away, i felt as if i saw something i really didnt wanna see.
Im sure a lot of you have felt that same way before, its like when you're in middle school and that one friend shoves his phone in your face to show you some ramdom gore video he found god knows where as a "joke".
I digress.
about a week later, i was walking around town with a friend, who i'll call William for this.
He was tall for his age, buzzed hair, very upbeat, a bit on the heavier side, but he had watched south park once and always jokingly blamed it on being "big boned" since then.
He was telling me about some girl that had "almost certainly" fallen in love with him, The only problem being that this had already happened 4 times this month with different girls, and he was never right. There is a thin line between being confident and being delusional, and he was standing right on it.
"Dude, im telling you! she totally wanted me! we were like, this close!"
"Uh-huh, and im assuming the reason she didnt kiss you was because she was stunned by your immense charisma."
The sarcasm in my voice was thick enough to be churned and made into butter.
He raised an eyebrow, a delusionally smug smile plastered on his face.
"Duh! What else could it be?! i swear, she must've gotten shy, thats why she didnt engage dude! im willing to bet 5 bucks on it!"
I simply smile and shake my head, lightly patting his back.
"Whatever man, you got it."
Suddenly, the thought came to my head, i wondered if he had seen what i had seen the other day on TV.
"Oh, Dude, have you been watching the news lately?"
William turned to me, seeming a bit caught off guard by the change of topic.
"I mean, when im at the dinner table my parents watch them, so its not like i can do much exept that"
"Why? you got an ad that told you not to be such a pussy with the ladies? oooh!!! burn!!! sick burn!!!"
It was at that moment i realized how much of a punchable face he really had, it was incredible, really.
"Shut up you dipshit, im trying to talk to you seriously for once!"
"Did you not see that guy? the one with the messed up face and bulging eye?"
William raised his eyebrows as he seemed to remember his face just as well as i do.
"Dude! you saw it too?!"
"Haha! he was all messed up! he was scary to look at!"
A smile of relief appears on my face as i now know im not the only one to have seen that man.
"Hey, come on now, thats just rude."
"But... yeah, it did freak me out, too-"
William slaps my arm out of nowhere, startling me a little and making me stumble to the side.
"Ah! Dude! what the hell!"
He looked at his hand, then turned his palm towards me, a small bug squished on it.
"Get mad all you want, i just saved your ass from a nasty looking mosquito."
As i see him wiping his hand on a nearby wall, i groan and scratch my arm where he had slapped it.
"Whatever, dude..."
After another hour of messing around, as the sun began to set, me and my friend parted ways, going back home to our families.
finally arriving home, i open the door and walk inside, feeling the familiar space of my house engulf me as if it was the embrace of a friend.
Mom? im home.
I shouted from the door, taking my shoes off and walking to the living room, my eyes widening infront of the pleasant surprise that was seeing both mom and dad sitting on the same couch.
"Oh, dad's here!?"
I couldnt help but grin from ear to ear, usually dad was always busy with work and never got to come over in time for dinner. I ran to the couch and hugged the both of them, hearing their short chuckles close to me.
"Welcome back hun! did you have fun with your friend?"
My dad smiled at me as he leaned back on the couch, the tiredness in his eyes visible from a mile away.
"How's my boy doing? you got up to some trouble with that william guy, huh?"
the tone in his voice was as playful as ever, even after all those hours working, he always found the energy to put on a smile when talking to his son.
"How about we sit at the table together, ey? you two get comfortable, i'll go get your brother."
I simply nod, my smile widening just a little bit more.
"Alright dad!"
With the corner of my eye, i see mom scratching at her leg. when i turned my head to look closer it seemed like some kind of bug bite.
"You ok, mom?"
she stops scratching to answer me, her smile coming back in no time.
"Oh, yes hun, im alright, its just that the mosquitoes really got me good today when i was watering the garden!"
"Must've been a hungry bunch, haha!
I giggle to myself for a second or two, and so does mom.
"Haha, you're probably right hun! Say, how about you go sit down at the table and i go make us some nice steaks for dinner?"
"Alright mom!"
I replied with enthusiasm before walking to the table, taking a seat and bouncing my leg as i waited for both the food and the rest of my family to sit down with me. Sometimes i forget how good i had it. A mom and dad who loved eachother, a brother who i could play and grow together with, and friends outside of home i could always hang out with if i ever wanted to. Life really was simple when you were little.
Dinner went great, we had fun with dad there, and it was a nice change of pace from the usual quiet nights with mom and Mark.
After that, we all went to bed, as usual.
I got in my room and shut my door, going to bed with a full stomach made me really sleepy, and by the time my head hit the pillow i was pretty much gone already.
However, in the middle of the night, my door creaks open, the sound loud enough to make me open an eye out of instinct.
Infront of me, i saw a darkened silhouette of a small child, a faint sobbing deriving from it.
I furrow my brow, raising my head to try and focus better on the figure better.
But when i saw it, i realized, it wasnt a monster.
It was my brother.
Standing at my door, sobbing quietly as if he didnt want to wake up mom and dad.
"Mark?! what the hell! you scared the crap out of me!"
I whisper, sitting at the edge of my bed, squinting my eyes as i turned on the lights.
"What is it? you having trouble sleeping?"
He's barely able to talk in between sobs. He wipes his tears and snot with the sleeve of his pajama.
"M-M... M-Mom.."
He takes a few shaky breaths and takes a step closer to me, sniffling, trying to compose himself just enough to talk.
"I- I c-cant f-find he- her-uh.."
"What??"
Mark probably had trouble sleeping and walked to mom's room, this was nothing new.
What's new is that now hes in MY room, crying his eyes out and saying he cant find mom.
I get up from the bed, hastly making my way outside of my room, then to my mother's room.
I open the door quietly and see her bed completely empty.
"The hell?.."
In a quiet panic, i look for her in the bathroom, then in dad's room, being careful not to wake him up, but i cant find her anywhere.
And as i walk to the living room, my eyes widen and i feel my heart sink all the way to my stomach.
The front door was wide open.
My mind begins thinking of the worst possible scenarios, had she been kidnapped? did something take her away?
I frantically run to the door, gripping the doorframe and looking around, ready to scream out for her in an attempt to locate her
"MO-!"
Just before i was about to do that, i turn my head to the right and see her standing on the grass, staring directly at the fence, illuminated only by the small lamp in the middle of the garden.
She was whispering something, but it was far too quiet for me to hear anything clearly. For a second i thought she must've been praying, but... to what? we weren't a religious family, not at all, we barely ever even went to church.
I tremble slightly, seeing her right there standing unnaturaly still after almost screaming my lungs out for her.
I let out a shaky breath
"M-Mom?.."
Her head snaps back to me, her eyes wide open, like a deer turning towards the sound of a cracked twig on the ground she stays silent for a full second before talking.
"Oh, hey sweetie..."
Her voice was breathy, sounding almost as if she had forgotten to stop whispering while trying to talk at a normal volume.
"You startled me."
ON EVERYTHING HE'LL BE BACK NEXT CHAPTER!!!
Before reading, know that this is not the full story, i simply do not have the time to tell you guys everything in one go.
Thats all.
Years ago, when i was around 13, i vividly remember sitting right next to my little brother during lunch, eating quietly as my mother and father talked about work. We were eating pesto pasta, i had just gotten a haircut earlier in the day and it was a saturday wich i was particularly exited for considering i had to go to the water park with my friends on sunday. The reason i remember this scene so well, however, isnt because of the quality time i spent with my family, but its because of something that was said on the news. I recall hearing the lady on TV talk about a man killed by, and i quote, "Something that looked like a person" before explaining where and when it happened. I shook my head slightly and my brow furrowed in confusion, i wondered if i had heard that right, but when i looked around the table to see if my family had heard it too, my mother and father weren't paying any attention to the TV and my brother was attempting to tie a knot with a piece of spaghetti, making a mess before being stopped by mom after a minute of trying and failing.
"Maybe i just heard it wrong..."
I thought to myself, brushing it off as nothing more than a silly misunderstanding before going back to eating.
But, as you can tell by me writing this, the memory stuck with me for years, its one of those memories that i could go back to and revisit at any point in my life.
Anyways, I lived in a small town, small enough for everyone to know eachother, but big enough to have everything necessary for the people living in it.
One day, about a month after that news report, my mother had given me 10 bucks to buy some eggs at the supermarket, telling me i could buy something for myself with the change. I bought the eggs just as she told me, and got myself a can of sprite, alongside a prepackaged ham and cheese sandwich, before walking out the store and beginning to walk back home with a satisfied smile on my face, the sun hitting my eyes for a split second, making me squint and turn my head down to the ground.
I was kicking a pebble along the road back home, the sound of clicking against the sidewalk was oddly satisfying, soothing even, but that feeling was interrupted by the pebble hitting someone's shoes infront of me.
A bit startled, I look up, the brightness of the sun hitting my face again before i block the sunlight with my hand.
"Ah!- Sorry! I wasnt looking..."
As the figure infront of me comes into focus, i take a good look at her and my breath catches in my throat for a short moment.
I had never seen this person before, she was an old woman, maybe in her late 70s, she had a big nose, long grey hair, and as she looked at me, her eyes didnt focus on me immediatly, in fact, i could've sword she looked crosseyed for a second!
She was covered from head to toe in warm, heavy clothing, she looked like she had opened the closet and put everything she had on, despite the sun hitting particularly hard that day.
At first glance, she looked like any other old woman, but there was something about her, a few things in fact, that made her, for lack of a better word, unsettling.
Her nose was a little too big, she had wrinkles on her face that i had never seen on anyone else's, the way her eyes took a second to properly lock onto me, she even smelled weird, like the cork of an old wine bottle that had turned to vinegar.
After about two seconds of silence, she smiles, raisisng her hand to my cheek and pinching it before finally saying something...
"Ooh! How are you, im fine! Today is a beautiful day! The weather is so nice!"
Her voice was high pitched and weak, but what confused me the most was the fact that, none of what she said made sense. I was expecting "Its alright, dont worry!" or maybe "Be more careful next time!" or even "Watch where you're going, young man!", not whatever this is, it was like she trying to engage in small talk with me without even giving me the time to open my mouth.
"Ah, yeah, uhm, it is a nice da-"
I stopped talking as she began walking past me, almost as if ignoring my attempt at a conversation entirely
"How's work these days? I feel great today! can you pass me a lighter?"
And so, she walks away at an incredibly slow pace.
I take a deep breath and shake my head, smiling a little at the bizarre exchange, if you could even call it one.
I continue walking home, taking a sip of my sprite and leaving the pebble behind, having forgotten about it.
As soon as i get there, i hear mom's voice from the kitchen.
"Sweetie? is that you? did you buy the eggs like i asked you to?"
I walk in the kitchen, placing the eggs on the counter and grabbing the sandwich i had bought earlier.
"Yup."
Mom walks up to me and ruffles my hair, and i respond by quickly moving away from the hand and complaining, cause, you know, i was 13 and i thought i didnt need my mother's affection anymore.
"Thank you hun. I'll bake us a cake whenever i have the time, how's that sound?"
Despite my defiance, i cant help but light up at the idea.
"Alright... sounds good, mom."
I suddenly think back at my encounter with that old woman and decide to ask her about it, after all, im pretty sure both mom and dad know almost everyone in town.
"Oh, uhm, mom? do you know by any chance an old lady with a really big nose?"
"I met her when i was walking back home, but i didnt recognize her, so..."
Mom looked at me for a second, then she tilted her head to the side slightly, looking up at the ceiling in thought.
"Hmm, i know some old men with big noses, not ladies."
"Why? did she tell you something?"
She leans against the kitchen counter and looks at me, raising an eyebrow, wondering who this person might be.
"Nothing important, just old people talk, yknow, the weather and stuff."
I dont tell her everything, partially because i didnt want to sit there and end explain to her in detail about how she looked, talked and behaved, and partially because it didnt really make sense anyways.
"Hm, alright hun, you can ask dad when he comes back from work... Be careful when talking to strangers, you know i always tell you that."
"Yeah yeah, i know i know..."
As she turns around and puts the eggs on top of the fridge, i walk to the livingroom couch with my brother, sitting beside him and grabbing the remote to turn on the TV.
"You wanna watch gumball?"
he simply looks at me and nods, smiling with glee.
"Alright..."
I turn it on with cartoons in mind, but somehing else catches my attention.
The news were talking about an arrest that happened earlier today in a nearby city, a man with severe physical deformities stood motionless in the middle of a busy street for 10 minutes before police was called. he was forcefully moved and arrested by the officers called on the scene shortly after.
When interrogated, the man would only speak in gibberish, the cops barely able to make out a word from what he was saying.
The man also lacked any type of ID.
The people of said city, when asked if they had ever seen that man before all said no. Not one person who was interrogated knew where that man came from.
I stare at the TV, both interested and a bit uneasy, that sounded familiar, too familiar.
Then again, the lady i had met wasnt as bad. Yeah, she had an unusual face and she was kind of just talking for the sake of talking, But that could all be chalked up to her old age, maybe she was sick, who knows!
But the fact neither my mom nor i recognize her from anywhere just rubbed me the wrong way...
Ant sorcerers? is that possible?!
Everytime i play roulette everyone swarms to pft whenever its available like they're feral dogs running to snatch a roadkill squirrel, when the best gameplay you'll get out of it is running in a circle for 10 minutes.
Oh, you got mahito? congrats! you're gonna have to play against people clipping through the floor and abusing emotes!
Oh, you didnt get mahito? Its ok! just run around like a dumbass until you inevitably get caught by him, OR!!! ruin the game for everyone else by clipping through the floor or abusing emotes! isnt that so fun?
Like, cmon, dude, at least disable emotes and make it so you cant use rika, it shouldnt be so hard.
And it doesnt help that the guys who do cheat get the most money!!
PFT needs a rework for sure.
Not just cause the acual ending to the arc was underwhelming and pretty lame, but cause, first of all musashi killed retsu, one of the main characters in the series, something that almost never happens.
Second of all, Musashi fights to kill, he is literally built for fights to the death, ending the fight without actually taking his life is just insulting to his character and it doesnt give him an honorable end.
Third of all!!! We could've had an all out battle between the two! demon back vs the no sword style musashi always wanted to try (but apparently completely forgot in the second half of the arc).
I like musashi as a character, but the way he was handled is a bit iffy.
I reeeeally really really really wanna see jack vs yujiro it would be AWESOME!!!
I ❤️ JACK HANMA!!!
Im kinda confused, was he weak before using steroids because he overtrained and his body just couldnt keep up with the intensity, or simply because said body was weak from birth??
