Sylvain Lyve built a V8 GO KART

This insane build took 1 month and is nothing but INSANE

To give an idea of the absurdity : 220hp 5.2L V8 from a Jeep grand Cherokee 1st Gen, With 400nm , Alfa Romeo 156ti gearbox , competitive go kart Extended body

And obviously it got big obstacles : frame too fragile , and is logical because you want to put for a 90 kg kart a 300 KILOGRAMMS ENGINE. , the engine is. A massive nuclear power plant, they had to stick two intercoolers AND that was not enough , also the the weight repartition GAWD DAMN , imagine driving this with 2% weight ratio into rear , A 911 isn't this much (Which is usually ~30%) , as for the totale weights , adding the engine (300kg) the frame (around 90kg) , reinforcements and fluids (50kg ) you have roughly ~450kg ,

The brakes are very clanky , the tires blocks cause of lack of weight in the front , the car snaps lot when turning sharp , and etc

But damn is still a proof of concept , it works so well and that thing pushed his grandma's out

Porsche doesn't just sell mechanics or performance, but a true childhood dream that remains etched in the mind for decades.

Saleen s5s Raptor

Look at this thing. It rolled out at the 2008 New York Auto Show looking like something ripped straight from a Need for Speed cutscene — composite panels over an aluminum chassis, a panoramic solar-tinted roof over the cockpit, wheels with black-diamond powder coat, and that insane "Sun Flair Yellow" paint that makes it look like it's already moving while standing still. The interior could be lit by sunlight or city glow through the scenic roof covering the cockpit. Genuinely futuristic for 2008 standards.

Now here's the funny part: crack that canopy open and you're greeted with analog gauges, classic bucket seats, and a 6-speed manual gearbox. No paddles, no touchscreens, no drive modes menu. The whole aesthetic screams 2070, the cockpit says 1995. That contrast is legitimately weird and I'm here for it.

Under the bodywork? A 5.0L supercharged V8 burning E85, putting out 650hp and 630 lb-ft of torque mid-mounted. Not exotic, not experimental — just a properly built American pushrod V8 with a blower and ethanol fuel. Proven, simple, brutal. The name literally stands for "Saleen 5.0-liter Supercharged." No mystery.

They were targeting $185,000 alongside the Corvette ZR1 which I were $115,000— with a package that was wider, lower, and apparently more powerful than anything else at that price point.

So why did it die?The S5S debuted the exact same week Bear Stearns was collapsing a few blocks away from the Javits Center. The 2008 financial crisis killed the project before it ever had a real chance. Steve Saleen had already left the company he founded in 2007, and by 2009 financial pressure forced Saleen to sell most of its assets. When Steve Saleen came back in 2012, the window had already closed entirely.

In 2015, the sole prototype and its IP went to auction. The car now exists mainly as a Forza skin.

Worst timing in automotive history, possibly. The car was real enough to drive, simple enough to actually build, and priced competitively — it just debuted at the literal start of an economic collapse.

VW Ducati XL Sport Concept

The Volkswagen XL Sport is a wild 2014 concept car that took VW’s ultra-frugal, hyper-aerodynamic XL1 and completely reimagined it as a track toy. Instead of a hybrid diesel, Volkswagen stuffed the high-revving 200-horsepower V-twin engine from a Ducati 1199 Superleggera motorcycle into the back, letting it scream all the way to an 11,000 RPM redline. Weighing just 890 kg thanks to heavy carbon fiber construction, this miniature supercar features gullwing doors, digital side mirrors, and wide, aggressive bodywork wrapped around an impossibly sleek frame. It never hit production, making it the ultimate piece of weird automotive trivia where a German efficiency experiment collided head-on with Italian superbike DNA. Ashame this car wasn't produced
