My MIL invited us to her Beach house knowing she currently has an e-coli infection

She told us as soon as we arrived. The house has one bathroom only. Currently spiraling in my health OCD.

AITAH for helping my sister's in-laws UPDATE!

Hi again. My last post sparked a bit of a debate so I came to update and to share the drama that happened after.

https://www.reddit.com/r/familydrama/comments/1ux6wtx/aitah_for_helping_my_sisters_in_laws/

this is the first post TLDR: I accepted to cat sit for my sister's boyfriend's parents for free, my bf and my dad were worried about me being too available.

GW: My sister and her bf are not married, I use the term in-laws just because it's easier, I know that is technically wrong.

Now to the update

The week went well, my boyfriend was almost always with me, the cat is happy and fed. The in-laws are returning from their vacation tomorrow, while sister and BIL are staying away one more week. To express their gratitude to me and my bf, BIL invited us to join them on vacation in their family beach house, since the second bedroom is now available. We were over the moon, the destination is a stunning seafront town in southern Italy, if we were to vacay there on our own it would've cost us 1000 € between travel expenses and accomodation.

Now the issue is that this house is co-owned by BIL's mother and her sister (BIL's aunt) and they hate eachother. Believing she was doing the right thing, BIL's mother called her sister to tell her me and bf were staying in the beach house. The aunt, simply out of spite, forbade us to go; she said that the house is for family members only and I'm not family for her. BIL's mother is a bit of a people pleaser and afraid of confrontation so she eventually gave up. She told BIL that we couldn't go.

I was heartbroken. Not for the trip itself, but because since my sister went to live with BIL I miss her so much and was ecstatic about going on vacation together. BIL apologized and is crushed. Nothing in particular to say, it's just a very frustrating situation.

First date after breaking up a relationship of 6 years... Oh boy was it weird!

Hi Charlotte and charlotters! I had to post something under the new flair, buckle up.

So this story takes place 5 years ago, 6 months after I broke up a 6 years relationship with my first ever bf. It was a very stressful time for me and wasn't thinking straight for sure.

I wasn't looking for someone, but someone found me, specifically on Instagram; he was 5years older than me, handsome and a med student. He was from my city and studied in my university so I figured it was safe to get to know him.

After messaging for quite some time and 2 safe dates in a public place, we mutually agreed to keep our relationship merely physical since we both were emotionally unavailable.

This is where the fun starts:

We proceeded with our first encounter, he gave me an address and we met in what I thought was his house. It was his deceased grandparents house. He told me that since he lived with his mother (absolutely normal for a guy in his early 20's in my country) he couldn't risk her knowing he "met" with a girl because she would have freaked out (this isn't normal at all).

We danced our dances, everything was fine. But then I walked in on him PICKING UP MY HAIR FROM THE FLOOR

(I have a lot of hair and I shed like an husky)

ONE BY ONE. WITH HIS HANDS.

I asked him what was he doing and he said that his mother went into the grandparents' house once a week to clean it and HE COULDN'T RISK SHE FOUND SOME GIRL'S HAIR OR SHE WOULD'VE FREAKED OUT. To top it all up he added "You seriously lose too much hair, look at what you've done"

BOY BYE.

Friends had a falling out 2 years ago, reconciled early this year but now it seems they're going to fight again

I want to share what's going on between 2 of my dearest friends X and Y (both 28). X and Y were very close, then 2 years ago they fought because Y had a tendency to take advantage of X's kindness.

After not speaking for 2 years, in january of this year they reconnected but same old patterns are starting to resurface.

X has had a very hard life, she grew up poor and lonely, now she lives alone in a small apartement and survives on her not particularly high paycheck, but she has a huge heart and the few things she has she shares.

Y on the other hands lives with her parents (don't come at her, we don't live in the US, here it's perfectly normal) with whom she has a rocky relationship with, they are controlling and fight a lot. As a result Y does anything to stay out of home till late at night, unfortunately she started to spend a lot of time at X's house; at first it was nice to see them re-building their friendship, but now Y is overstaying her welcome. She hardly offers to pay for groceries/delivery, she asks to come over when X is with her boyfriend, she even went to X's house when she wasn't home and very often showed up at X's workplace.

Meanwhile X, who's a big people pleaser, never gathered the strength to tell Y something was off.

Y recently got a boyfriend, Z (30ish), and started to bounce between X's and Z's houses everyday. While Z is at work, she stays by X's, the minute he clocks out she jumps up and goes to him. Now X's feeling used and at the same time relieved that Y's isn't there all the time, if possible it got worse because now X feels like a parking garage.

Recently X confessed me how she feels and told me she's afraid of speaking up because she doesn't want to loose Y again.

Y is currently in therapy, but it seems uneffective. She is doing nothing to solve her issues with her parents or to move out, she seems to have found a way to avoid any solution at X's expenses. The whole friendsgroup is walking on eggshells because Y doesn't take criticism well, at the same time we encourage X to set some boundaries.

TLDR: friend 1 is taking advantage of friend 2, friend 2 is unable to set boundaries.

Che fastidio le persone che ti fissano

E poi tu le guardi ogni tanto per verificare se ti stanno ancora fissando. Ti stanno ancora fissando perciò ti vedono che le guardi. E poi sembri tu quello che li fissa.

How do I (F27) convince my boyfriend (M31) to go to the doctor ?

TLDR: I would like my boyfriend to do some check-ups from time to time

I (F27) have a 10+ years relationship with my bf (M31). I had some medical issues as a child so I make sure to have everything in check yearly. My boyfriend is completely healthy but his last bloodworks dates back to when he was 13, he has never seen any doctor except for the dentist in his adult life. I'm starting to worry because everything is fine until it's not, prevention is key, but he seems to never listen, he rolls his eyes and says he's fine. Aside from what could be anxiety on my part, how can I convince him to be more responsible with his health?

To clarify: we live in a country with free public healthcare.

Beach house neighbours from hell

Hi everyone, just a quick rant. I'm currently staying in my in-laws beach house with my bf, so I'm a guest and won't ever dare to confront their neighbours directly.

The house right next to "ours" shares with us a fence that divides the yards. This house is for rent in the summer, with new renters every month.

This month (I'm glad it's almost over) a family rents the house: two parents, a LOT of kids (ages from a few months old to ~10yo) and a dog. They are the most noisy, misbehaving people I've ever seen: loud music all day, dog barking outside all night, the parents fight and scream till late in the evening, the kids scream while playing and god knows why they are always at home though they rented a BEACH house.

Today in the afternoon we heard some commotion and the sound of something rolling/breaking. We go in the yard to find the kids have thrown some stones across the fence, not big think apricot size. MIL was fuming because there's their car parked in the yard and the dog wandering around. What if the car or the dog got hit by a stone? She confronted them and both parents and kids denied everything despite there were chunks of stone missing from the steps outside, oddly similar to the stones we found.

Thank you for reading, have a good one

Onsen

Hi everybody. Next year I'm going to Japan with my bf, first time for me and second for him. On his first trip my bf went to try a public onsen and asked me if it's something I'm curious to do. Now I'm a bit of a germaphobe (even regular pools disgust me a little), does anybody know how the maintenance and cleaning of these onsen work? How safe it is to bathe in an onsen? A private onsen included with our hotel room is in anyway better? Thank you.

Birthday gift for my friend (27F)

We are a 4 people group of friends (all girls), one of us is turning 27 soon. She is a gamer, loves the color green, is vegetarian and likes to dress uniquely. We would like to gift her something different, to shake her up a little since it's been a rough time for her lately. Budget 30-50€.

AITAH for helping my sister's in laws?

I (27)F was asked to catsit for my older sister's in laws for a week, while they are on vacation.

For context, my sister's in laws are amazing people, they treat me like their daughter, have me over for dinner and make me gifts in some occasions. I also have a beautiful relationship with my sister and her boyfriend, we always help eachother out, although my sister is a little bit less available than me (don't blame her for prioritizing her needs, I wish I was a bit more like her).

My sister, her bf and his parents are all going to vacation together and i was asked to feed their cat (absolutely calm and adorable) twice a day and was told to do as I please in their house (sleep over with my bf, just chill for sometimes) as long as the cat is good and the plants watered.

Now my boyfriend and my dad are saying that I should not accept, that I am making myself too available and letting others have their way at my expenses. For clarity I'm not getting paid, and i wouldn't accept payment from family. The house is at a 30 minutes drive away from where i live, i guess that sometimes i will have to spend the night there.

AITAH for not listening to them?

Perché alcuni ristoranti tengono la musica così alta??

Perché mentre mangio fuori devo avere sta musica ambient massacrapalle nelle orecchie?

Lady, get in the front if you want to enjoy the view

I'm currently on vacation in a very touristy beach destination in my country. Me and my friends get to the free beach, where you can plant the beach umbrella in the sand wherever you find a spot, as long as everybody respects decent distance. The beach is crowded but there's some space, the umbrellas are mostly in 3 rows (front row being right in front of the sea). We find a spot in second row and we decide to stop there, when a lady right behind us (third row) tells us to go next to her, in her row, because it was "less windy there". Now I was not born yesterday, she wanted us to move because we would be blocking her view, but she was more than welcome to go in the front row. We tried to meet her halfway by not standing right in front of her, we moved slightly to the side but always second row. It's mental to stand in the last row demanding nobody gets in front of you.

Vacanza in Sardegna, 1 settimana. Cosa portare?

Ciao a tutti.

Grazie.

How to handle dishonest customers?

not me but a person who I'm close with. The private chef has been employed by a luxury guesthouse for a single dinner for a family of tourists (they agreed on the menu and price 2 weeks in advance). During the service the guests gave very positive feedback, also saying things like "wow!" talking to each other. The chef left, greeted the customers, received no tip (but it's not uncommon). Two days later the guesthouse manager contacts the chef saying the customers were very disappointed with the service and are now refusing to pay. Who's at fault here?

AIW for asking my boyfriend to tell his mother to stop calling him every morning?

Hi Charlotte, hi redditors! This is my first ever reddit post and english is not my first language so bear with me please. I have to provide A LOT of context here: Me (F27) and my bf (M31) have been together for 11 years, he is the love of my life and we are inseparable; I get along with his family quite well, although,in the beginning of our relationship, the age gap was a concern and his parents were a bit cold toward me. His family has this habit of keeping in touch throughout the day with short phonecalls, something we don't do in my family (we prefer to text mostly). The issue is that these calls come unannounced at anytime, (especially in the morning around 9.45 AM) and, though we usually are awake at that time, these calls often interrupt morning cuddles or even morning "grown up dances". I find the whole thing intrusive, especially because these calls are usually 30 seconds long and are mostly small talk. So the other day I brought the issue up with my bf, but obviously he doesn't see anything wrong with this and said I am overreacting just because I'm not used to talk on the phone with my parents.

So Am I Wrong?
