Maternity leave discrimination?

I’m currently on mat leave and have just heard that my boss’ interim post was advertised and someone was appointed. I also now have a new interim boss.

The catch is that I’m on maternity and wasn’t informed of the job going to advert and I’m a bit annoyed… Had I have known about it, I would have applied knowing I’m due back in 2 months and the advert went out 3 months ago. Even if I chose not to apply, surely I should have been informed as the role itself is a promotion to my role?

I will definitely be raising this as I’m waiting for my org to contact me to inform me of said changes.

It got me thinking though, what will actually happen other than me coming across as being a little difficult?

Advice around weaning and feeding?

My boy is now 10.5 months old and has been on 3 meals for about 3 months. He’s also on formula but he’s never been a big guzzler. Tbh formula and getting him to drink has always been challenging but we are where we are. Before solids he was averaging about 800ML in 24 hours. He’s now about 600ML in 24 hours alongside 3 small meals. Although it’s 600ML this is across 5-6 bottles because he never finishes one full bottle. We tend to make him bottles between 5-6oz and a larger one of 7oz before bed.

More recently food has become hard. He’ll happily eat his breakfast (usually one weetabix piece) but everything else… I just want to cry. I know food before 1 is meant to be for fun but I also keep reading he should be reducing his formula and increasing solids. However recently all he does is suck all the flavour off the food and spit it out. Either that or he’ll accept a bite, and spit it out. He’ll totally refuse to take it in. I’m not confident enough to reduce his formula because I don’t feel like he’s taking enough food in to justify a drop.

I guess I’m really just reaching out for moral support, tips and tricks because I’m worrying about him so much.

Edit - not teething as far as I can tell. Baby boy has two top teeth but lowers look no where near ready at least to me.

When did I ovulate?

I use my Apple Watch to track my bbt which I know isn’t as strong as a BBT thermometer but it’s all I have and mostly I find it’s fairly accurate. Last month I charged a big drop and my period arrived. This is this months chart and no period yet, and I’ve just done a pregnancy test which also isn’t positive (although not morning urine). I thought I ovulated CD17/18 by now I should have had my period as I usually have a 14 day luteal phase. Unless… I ovulated later. What do you think?

What foods do you have on rotation for your bub?

Curious and also wanting to steal a few ideas! Sometimes I feel I’m quite boring. For us it’s:

- Readybrek or weetabix with cows milk & fruit
- Avocado on toast
- Peanut butter / almond butter on toast
- Egg muffins with any veg and cheese
- fried egg and bread
- chapatti (south asian) and baby friendly curry
- lentil & rice
- pasta & red sauce
- chicken thighs any form
- veg usually mixed in
- yogurt and fruit always for dessert
- salmon & sweet potato fishcake (although we don’t do a lot of potato because I’m sure it causes constipation)

Edit he’s 9.5 months so this list is all age appropriate

Italy with a baby?

I’d love to do a holiday to Italy with a 9m old, in a pram. Can you suggest the best places to stay with easy / walking distance access for a pram to most attractions?

Are we finally truly teething?

I’m really confused as to whether my baby is teething or has come down with something.

He’s 9.5m and has had a one/off fever since yesterday of about 37.6/38.

He’s been biting at my legs shoulders as well as shoving his hand in his mouth and knawing at his knuckle. I’ve offered calpol three times and all 3 occasions, he’s absolutely refused it and whatever bit he’s taken, he’s vomited out.

His fluid intake is strangely better than usual and is having some solid food. Wee Nappies also fine but poo is more softer, almost mucusy.

All this points to teething to me but the fever is the one which has stumped me as everything online suggests fever is not a symptom of teething. Why I might think he’s caught something is bc we went to soft play earlier in the week. His gums top central seems more red and bumpy but bottom not so much from what I can see.

I feel we’ve been here so many months with his drools, constant biting etc that I don’t even know if now what we’re experiencing is actually truly teething and before was just him being a whiny baby.

Just sold my second (but really first baby car)

My first car was a Jazz but I didn’t choose it. I was given it. The car I’ve just told however, was the car I’d always wanted. It was nothing special. Civic, ‘04, 1.4 petrol. I just always loved the spaceship look. It sold today. I’ve had that car for 10 years 134k miles. It’s seen me through everything from house moves, skip runs to holidays. It’s had its fair share of troubles but it’s pulled through. I felt quite sad seeing it being driven away today.

What do you do about a car seat on holiday?

Explain to me like I’m 5 and consider that I’m an anxious first time mum!

Do I take our car seat on holiday?
Does the transfer company provide a car seat?
Does baby travel in our lap in the car?

We’re looking at either Turkey or Egypt

Would we have to take a stroller AND a car seat with us? If yes any suggestions on cheap and cheerful!?

We’re desperate for a holiday before I return to work but my mind can’t seem to get past something like this which is so simple.

EDIT I can’t reply to all comments but wanted to edit this post to say thank you to each one of you for helping me decide on what the right thing to do is! We’ll take our car seat with us. I feel less anxious with all the practical advice shared. Thank you.

When do you offer breakfast?

My LO is 9.5m and wakes at about 5:30/6am. His breakfast is 7am then he goes down for a nap about 8 or 9am and wakes 10:30am. Just curious with those on a similar schedule, do you offer breakfast before or after the first nap?

VW Tiguan airbag light?

VW TIGUAN 2019 1.5 TSI R LINE PETROL

went in for a wheel alignment
When driving back home, airbag light came on amber with emergency call sos restricted.
I called garage to ask them and they said that they had to leave car on in ignition for the wheel alignment after which the car needed jump starting and voltage was showing 8v when it should be 12v?

I had battery tested by an independent who checked voltage and said battery is OK and doesn’t need replacing.

I now have an amber light.

Thoughts?

Reassurance around baby’s social interactions?

My LO is 9m, our first and also the only baby in our immediate family. I’m an only child and my cousins are teens and my husband’s niece /nephews are also teens.

I try and take my baby out as much as possible so he gets used to being around people but I often find that he still cries when he sees new people (even will cry when he sees people two days ago).

I’ve only taken him to soft play three times third being today. As he’s crawling now I feel he’d enjoy it so much more compared to earlier.

It took a while for him to get settled around other babies, startled and cried at older children screaming in the baby area and other babies who were closer to 1/1.5 being much more vocal also made him cry. I feel so bad and guilty that maybe I’ve not given him enough exposure in the loud environments that he now just cries.

He also just stares at the other mum’s and babies. Obviously they’re used to it. He interacted with some babies but with them being older, it wasn’t much of a play session as he still solo plays ie doesn’t pass toys etc.

Is this normal? Will he get better?

Advice about weaning from formula?

So my baby is 9 months today (9 months in 9 months out!) and I’m starting to wonder about the transition to cows milk in the next 3 months. I have a few questions I’d like guidance on please. My LO currently has 3 meals a day (usually consists of 3 portions of different items) with random bits of fruit through the day too.

Formula through the day doesn’t follow a set routine as he’s always been a fussy feeder but I generally follow milk - food - milk pattern.

  1. When do I introduce sippy cups?

  2. His morning bottle used to be 6oz but he seems to only now take 2-3 sometimes 4 and then refuses breakfast. Could I be heading towards him dropping the morning bottle? On avg he tends to drink between 600-720ml with 3 meals. Overall he’s dropped his formula by a bottle since having 3 meals.

And how?

Thoughts on a VW Tiguan 2019 1.5 TFSI EVO MATCH DSG

72k miles(pending confirmation of service history, 1 owner from new, used approved).

What’s the reliability of this model? Common faults? Anyone had this car who can provide a short review of their experience?

9 month development review (ftm)

My sons 9m review is booked 17 July at which point he’ll be 9m + 2 weeks. I had a quick look online at the ASQ-3 questionnaire and my son does nothing in the communication section related to words/speech. He does babble etc but no words yet. There are other things he does in the other sections and some not.

Can others share their experience of the 9month development review please?

8 to 9 month old, seriously wtf?

My LO is 8.5 months old, seriously wtf. I thought him crawling would mean I didn’t have to carry him everywhere. Now I need eyes in the back of my head, he constantly wants to stand and is learning to cruise. Constantly whines at me, throws himself back with a tantrum. He won’t sit in his high chair anymore for his meals. Hell, won’t even sit in my lap to eat!

Most times I look at him and I’m like what do you want???

Anyone else!?

Can someone help decode why my son keeps waking up at 5:30am?? We’re exhausted!

My LO used to have a good schedule.

Was:

Wake up 6am
Nap 1 8:30am (1.5hr)
Nap 2 2pm (1.5hr)
Asleep by 7:15/7:30pm
Odd occasion of a wake at either 9pm or 1am

Now:

Wake up 5:30am
Nap 1: 8am (1.5hr)
Nap 2: 1pm (1-1.5hr)
Bedtime: 7pm
No night wakes

I have tried stretching bedtime to 7:30, I’ve tried 6:45, I’ve tried stretching the first wake window despite a full on meltdown and I’ve tried stretching the second wake window too. I can’t figure it out.

Amongst this he’s learned how to crawl, pull to stand, some signs of cruising. I could put it down to developmental leap but I feel he’s cracked the skills (almost apart from the cruising).

(8.5m, 9 months on 28th)

Edit: I can see why both schedules are decent examples but i’m due back to work in three months, and for us personally my little one waking up at 6 is better so that I can wake up a little bit earlier than him to get ready for the day. Whereas if he keeps working up at 5:30, I can’t wake up any earlier than that. 💀

Post partum hair regrowth

Do you have guys have any recommendations for products to help hold down the hair growth? I currently look like I’ve been electrocuted. I’ve tried hair clay, clear mascara and hair spray but the hairs at my hairline won’t sit down!
