When someone is sentenced to life in prison, why wouldn’t they always choose the death penalty instead? Why would anyone want to spend decades sitting in a prison cell? What makes someone choose life in prison over execution?

Edit:

I guess I should’ve said someone who’s facing the death penalty. Why do some people fight to avoid execution and instead accept life without the possibility of parole?

Crazy idea: The FBI should offer a free behavioral analysis for anyone over 21.

Imagine getting a professional breakdown of your personality, decision-making habits, strengths, weaknesses, and possible blind spots from experts trained in human behavior.

It could be like an “owner’s manual” for yourself.

Obviously it would have privacy concerns, but I think a lot of people would be fascinated to see how they think and how they come across to others.
