Have you ever met someone you could never forget?

I met someone almost a year ago, and I still think about them almost every day. There was an instant attraction, the kind that made me wonder, “Did I just meet my soulmate?” We clicked effortlessly, and I haven’t been the same since. I believe this person was an INFJ.

Do INFJs tend to experience connections like this and hold onto them for a long time?

What’s your main reason for learning about MBTI?

For me, it started with feeling different from others and not really understanding why. I wanted to understand myself better, make sense of those differences, and understand how other people think so I could communicate better and avoid unnecessary misunderstandings.

Over time, it became more about self-growth and learning how to relate to and support others in a way that helps them feel understood too.

What got you interested in MBTI, and what do you get out of learning about it? I feel like the answer might be different for each type.

Do You Like INFPs as Much as INFPs Like ENFJs?

I'm INFP and I really love ENFJs, you’re probably the type I get along with the most. My mom and one of my close friends are ENFJs, and they’re genuinely some of my favorite people: so warm, caring, supportive, and fun to be around. 🥹💗

Because I like ENFJs so much, I’m honestly a little surprised when I notice you guys seem drawn to types that feel quite different from INFPs, like INTJs or people who are super organized, efficient, ambitious, and have their lives completely together. 😭

So be honest: do you sometimes find INFPs a little too unproductive or unstructured for you? 😂 Do you ever look at us and think, “I love you, but please… get a planner”? 🥹

Have you ever thought about something right before It happened?

I’ve had a few moments where I’ve thought about something very specific, and then almost immediately it appears in my feed, comes up in a conversation, or happens in real life.

Then there are times when I’ll randomly think about someone I haven’t seen or spoken to in years, and suddenly I run into them or hear from them.

Has anyone else experienced something like this? What do you make of it?

Does anyone else struggle with giving advice?

I understand people’s feelings pretty easily, but I tend to give advice based on what I would do. I’m pretty mentally strong and emotionally resilient, so I can push through things and go against group pressure.

But then I forget that not everyone handles things the way I do. What feels manageable to me might be overwhelming to someone else.

Anyone else get frustrated when you understand someone’s situation perfectly, but they won’t take the advice you know would help?

INFJs, do you categorize people after getting to know them deeply?

I often see INFJs say they love getting to know someone’s deepest layers, the intense emotions, vulnerabilities, insecurities, all the stuff underneath the surface. As an INFP, I actually love the idea of being understood that deeply… but it also makes me wonder if I should be that open.

My concern isn't really “Can you handle my emotions?” It's more “What are you going to conclude about me once you know all of this?”

I sometimes notice INFJs seem more inclined than INFPs to categorize people or form a pretty definite idea of who someone is. And because INFJs can be idealistic about people, I wonder if they can love someone's “deep layers” in theory, but then see those layers differently when they don't fit the idealized image they had of that person.

Like… what if I show you all my messy, complicated parts and you eventually think, “Oh. So she's actually kind of broken/too complicated,” and then that becomes part of how you define me? 😭

I notice this especially when INFJs talk about losing a friendship or connection. Sometimes it sounds like they've formed a certain perception of the person, and then their flaws, emotional issues, or ways of being become part of the explanation for why they no longer want the connection.

As an INFP, I don't really think that way. I tend to see people as imperfectly perfect, complex, capable of growth, etc. I don't naturally put someone in a box and think, “Yep, this is what this person is.” I don't think I could leave a friendship and explain it as “they were too broken” because that would feel like reducing an entire person to their struggles.

I really don't like being categorized and I tend to see people as complex and multifaceted rather than fitting neatly into boxes, so I don't naturally reduce someone to a label or let one part of them define the whole person.

People can be messy and still be wonderful. They can change, grow, heal, and surprise you. And I wouldn't want someone's most vulnerable moments to become something that's held against them later.

Because as an INFP I'm sitting here like:

INFJ: “I want to know the deepest parts of you.”

INFP: “Okay 🥺”

also INFP: “Wait… are you sure? Because once I open this box there is no going back.” 😭

EDIT: Wow, I was not expecting so many thoughtful responses! I might not be able to reply to everyone individually, but please know I’ve read every single comment. Thank you all so much for the warmth, clarity, and peace this brought me. It truly means the world. ❤️

Do you think we can overcome our core fears?

Do you think it’s actually possible to overcome your Enneagram type’s core fears, or will they always be part of you in some way? If you’ve experienced real growth, what changed for you?

What has MBTI taught you about people?

Learning about MBTI and cognitive functions has changed the way I see people. One thing I’ve realized is that people don’t always misunderstand me, disagree with me or react differently because they don’t care, sometimes they’re just seeing things through a different lens.

I used to assume that if something felt obvious or important to me, other people would see it the same way. When they didn’t, I sometimes took it personally and saw it as them being insensitive or not caring. Understanding cognitive functions helped me realize that people have different priorities and ways of processing information. Someone can still care even if they don’t show it in the ways I expect.

It made me want to understand people before jumping to conclusions. Instead of thinking, “Why don’t they understand?” I try to ask, “What makes sense from their perspective?”

Has MBTI changed the way you see your relationships or the people around you? What’s something it taught you that you didn’t realize before?

Anyone else feel like they can talk to animals?

Sometimes I feel like I can understand animals without them even doing anything, like I just pick up on what they’re feeling.

When I had my dog, we could literally just look at each other and I’d somehow know what he wanted without him doing anything. It felt almost telepathic, like we were having a whole conversation through eye contact.

Could this be an INFP thing? Does anyone else feel unusually connected to animals too? Or do you think it has nothing to do with personality type?

I’d be really curious to hear if other INFPs experience this too.

What’s one belief you have that you’ll defend forever, even if everyone around you disagrees?

No judgment, I genuinely want to know what’s something you believe so strongly that nothing could change your mind.

Can too much cardio slow weight loss with PCOS?

I have PCOS and I’ve lost 100 pounds mainly through diet, along with walking around 6–8k steps a day. I never went to the gym, but I noticed my weight loss started slowing down as I got to a lower weight, so I decided to start going to the gym and increase my cardio.

For the past 2 months, I’ve been walking 12–15k steps a day and adding incline, and some crosstrainer workouts. At first, my weight started dropping properly again, but then it gradually slowed down. Around the time my period came, I decided to reduce my walking and take it easier, averaging around 3-4k steps a day.

After doing this, I noticed my weight started coming down again. Now I’m wondering whether the cardio caused my weight loss to be delayed (for example, from stress, water retention, hormones, or my PCOS) or if reducing my activity was actually what helped.

I’m unsure if doing cardio more intermittently would work better for me or if it is actually making things worse?

Does anyone else genuinely not have favorites?

Whenever someone asks me "What's your favorite book, movie, song, game, food, memory, etc?" my mind goes completely blank.

It's not that I forget. I genuinely don't think I have favorites. I enjoy a lot of different things, and what I like changes depending on my mood. Even if I come up with an answer, I'll probably change my mind later, or I just can't think of anything in the moment.

Meanwhile, other people seem to have instant answers, like they've had the same favorite movie or song for years.

Does anyone else feel this way? Do you actually not have favorites, or that your brain just can't recall them when someone asks?

Sleep paralysis or something else?

I have been interested in manifestation lately and have had experiences where I was able to manifest things into my reality while awake. Because of this, I started listening to subliminals to see what would happen and explore how they might affect my subconscious.

I usually listen to subliminals before bed and my sleep is usually completely normal. This time, I had a very vivid and memorable dream. When I woke up, I opened my eyes and saw my mom standing in front of me. I heard her telling me to wake up, but I couldn’t move my arms. I thought I was experiencing sleep paralysis and stayed still.

As I became more aware of my surroundings she slowly disappeared and I realized it was actually just a chair and I was alone in my room. It felt like my room slowly “rendered" as I fully woke up.

I also had a similar experience before this. I woke up paralyzed and unable to move my body and I felt extremely confused and panicked. As I desperately tried to regain control of my body, I suddenly found myself on a street. It wasn’t like I walked there, I was just suddenly there. I tried to move and managed to walk down the street, but my legs felt partially paralyzed, with a strange pins and needles sensation. I remember thinking, “Am I dying?” while trying to understand what was happening. Then, as my body fully woke up, I suddenly found myself back in my room, in bed, and everything went back to normal.

Have anyone here experienced something similar or have any thoughts on whether these were reality shifting/astral projection experiences than just sleep paralysis?

Had a really strange experience after listening to subliminals...anyone else?

So I usually listen to subliminals before bed and my sleep is usually completely normal. But this time I had a really vivid, memorable dream. Then I woke up, opened my eyes, and saw my mom standing in front of me. I heard her telling me to wake up, but I couldn't move my arms. Then I thought I was having sleep paralysis, so I stayed still. As time passed, she slowly disappeared and I realized it was actually just a chair in my room and that I was alone. It was like my room slowly "rendered" as I fully woke up.

Does anyone know what this was? It really scared me because it felt so real. Could this mean my subliminal is working or is it possible I overwhelmed my subconscious by listening to it?

INFP 6w7??

I took the test and got INFP 6w7, but I’m confused about what it means. Is this an uncommon combination? Does this mean I’m more like an ENFP? I’d love to hear what you all think!
