Some context for this one: in Korea, the Gaebul (also known as the fat innkeeper worm) is a species of marine spoon worm which lives in mudflats. They are a popular snack food that may be eaten raw with sesame oil or gochujang.

A list of 291 musicians and bands was included with Chance Meeting on a Dissecting Table of a Sewing Machine and an Umbrella (1979), the first album by Nurse with Wound. It has since become a type of “shopping list” for collectors of avant-garde and outsider music.

TIL about Mini, a baby monkey who “starred” in a series of torture videos that became popular with a group of online sadists, one of whom called her “The Babe Ruth…The Marilyn Monroe…The Elvis” of the community. Although some members wanted to see her killed on camera, Mini was eventually rescued.

Misheard lyrics story: I thought “Holiday” was about potty training!

My roommate was listening to a Bee Gees greatest hit CD a while back and one of the songs on it was called ”Holiday”. I initially assumed the song had something to do with potty training.

The chorus doesn’t actually have any words in it, it’s just the vocalist singing “dee dee dee dee dee dee, dee dee dee DEE-DEE dee dee”. But the melody for that part is very distinctive and catchy.

The first time I heard it, I thought they were singing “pee pee pee pee pee pee…” instead. In other words, I assumed the song was about a parent trying to potty-train a child!

That sort of made sense at first, since some of the lines in the verses are kind of cutesy* and could be interpreted that way. But then I learned they weren’t actually singing “pee“ and so my potty-training theory fell apart entirely….

*That was rather common back in the late 60s, I guess. Flower children, summer of love, bubblegum and all that.

Skibidi birthday, ya rizzler!

Yesterday I was walked around my apartment complex and I saw some neighbors had put a sign up outside their garage saying “Skibidi birthday ya rizzler”. I’m way outside the target age group for things like that, but it was still kind of funny to see.
