I was shopping in a thrift store to resell valuable items online when I came across a black book. There was no cover art, just a white text that says "Guinness Book Of World Records Death Edition" the background is solid black. I never seen anything like it. I wondered if the company even try with this one. Were they just squeezing pennies when publishing it? I wasn't sure, but I find it odd that the price sticker said that it was 1 cent, which is practically free. I didn't see why I shouldn't buy it so I did. When I went up to the up to the counter with it, the cashier looked terrified by the sight of the book. She froze and stared at the it, shaking with fear. I asked if anything was ok and it took her a while to respond. "Y-yes everything is fine, just daydreaming." followed by a fake laugh. I drove home and set the book on my desk and opened the 1st page and there was a collage of pictures of mutilated dead bodies and people being tortured. I felt deeply disturbed by the sight of it, wondered how this was allowed to be published to begin with, whether it was legal. Curiosity got the best of me and turned the page. The bodies caught my eye again, gagged as soon I saw them. The text was shown in a usual format.
I start reading and the first record mentioned was "World's hardest gag". A man in a villiage in Kenya fell into an outhouse and the smell was so putrid that the man gagged out all of his stomach acid at once along with a half liter of blood then tragically passed away 30 minutes later.
The 2nd one was "Longest time with brain exposed". There was a schizophrenic woman in Washington who tried to perform surgery on herself to remove the part of her brain that supposedly contained "The worms" and was successful, except she wasn't able to put her skull back together. She put a beanie over it to hide the exposed brain before passing away 5 days later. I started crying because I felt terrible, but also terrified because I constantly thought something was behind me, which I later found out to be true but more on that later.
The 3rd record I read was "Most hot dogs eaten without tongue" A man in Texas was in a hot dog eating contest, supposedly was practicing for his whole life up until he was facing a world champion. Of course as he started losing, he felt the need to do anything necessary to win the contest and realized that his tongue was getting in his way. He took a pair of scissors and cut his entire tongue out in front of the audience and started to shoving whole hot dogs down his throat. He unfortunately passed away 10 minutes later from blood loss, which people initially thought was ketchup and thought he fell asleep after his head collapsed onto the table. His total was 10 hot dogs.
"What sick jerks woukd think to keep records of this?" I wondered. As I was thinking about it, a hooded figure touched my shoulder and said "Congratulations! You're now a record contender! Now try to do the most push ups before dying." Which out of my own will, I started doing that. My muscles ache very badly as the slowly rips apart, but I kept going despite this and I did my best to put myself back into control and can't. Next thing you know, my body grew cold until I eventually died of exhaustion. I made it 4 hours before dying.
