Recently put out a couple ads for a co-st for a VtM game. Not having much luck. But one guy did contact me and almost immediately started asking questions related to GNS theory from back in the early 2000's.

Is this shit making a comeback? I thought we'd largely moved on as a hobby from this sort of thing? Are people digging it back up from the ashes of the Forge, or did i find a not-so wonderful unicorn in the wild?

This is going to be a long post!  I hope you stick it out!

I have hit a bit of a rough patch with my role playing recently, and I’m reaching out to try to find a way out.  I love my current partners, don’t get me wrong (love you guys, if you read this), but I’m looking for something more in-depth to really get the world building shivers.  I love creating worlds and getting invested in lore.  I want to bounce ideas off of other people and see them get excited about the world we are creating.  I’m looking for a long-term partner who’d like to get WAAAAY too invested in our shared universe.  Or universes.  If we end up being good at this, no reason we can’t, right?

A little about myself.

Like I said, my name is Beyla.  I love my name, because I picked it myself.  I am a 35 year old atheist (maltheist really) trans woman living in the bluest part of very red Iowa.  I am a forever GM stuck without a game because of Real Life Struggles and living basically off the grid.  I write third person past tense paragraph/literate style.  I can play characters of any gender, but generally default to female.  That being said, whatever world we create will almost certainly have NPCs and I can play as many and as varying types of NPCs as needed.

What I’m looking for.

I am 35, as i said, so I will not be playing with anyone under 21.  Sorry, kiddos, I see you.  I love you.  Keep telling stories.  I’m just not the right person to do it with.  I need someone on discord.  I need someone who also writes third person past tense, ideally, though if I love your writing, I can shift.

I want someone who wants to build with me.  I can do the heavy lifting on setting creation, but I’m really looking for a partner, not a recipient.  I’d like to bounce ideas off of someone, and get some feedback and counter-pitches.  I’m looking for people who want to put Lore into their worlds.

But beyond that, I’m looking for someone who’s going to be excited and invested in the RP we set up together.  I’d like to compliment each other’s posts.  I’d like to come up with fun adventures for each other’s characters.  I’d like to get excited to RP and be RPed with.  I’d like, in short, an RP friend I can have fun with, both in character and out of character.

The dream, and this is a long way off, is for us to craft something together that we could one day invite others to play in.  I want to one day have to buy a wiki to keep our worlds straight.  But that’s a long term goal.

The stories I’m most interested in telling right now are subversive stories about identity, self-knowledge, thriving in a world designed to be merely survived, and bucking systems designed to keep people down.  Whether these stories come as space pirates or fantasy knights fighting totalitarianism, I don’t really care.  I want to confront things and maybe get a fictional win here and there.

I’m also interested in romance stories.  I think some of the best stories in the world are romance stories, and I love playing connected characters with someone.  I don’t mind when stories turn NSFW, just so long as the Role Play is not jumping from one explicit scene to the other. 

And believe me when I say that genre doesn’t matter to me, for the most part.  I like a bit of speculative fantasy in my settings.  So, we’ll probably not do simple slice of life stuff.  Like I said, I like world building.  Now, alternate history….. I’m getting side tracked.  Sci Fi, Fantasy, Urban Fantasy, Horror, it all tracks with me.  So long as we’re working together to build it.

That’s really what it’s about.  The collaboration.  I need a creative buddy.

As far as expectations go, I’m really easy.  I don’t need a reply every day (though I’d like it, or more frequently as the mood strikes us).  I do expect communication.  If you’re going to be incommunicado for a few days, please just let me know so I’m not getting antsy?  That’s all I ask.  I’ve been ghosted before, and hate it.

A note on AI.

I do, occasionally, resort to Generative AI to make art for characters.  I tend to prefer real faces for my characters (I tend to think of it as casting the character in the TV show based on the RP), but sometimes it’s nice to be able to tweak.  I DO NOT use AI to write any of my posts or lore.  I promise that.  I would expect an essentially reciprocal relationship with my partner.
