Defeat demons and WEAR their flesh to grow in power.

Hey guys! We have been working hard on our game SKINATOR, and we updated so many things about it that we decided to create a new trailer for it.

There's a free playtest demo on Steam going on! Have a play!

I would love to know if you understand anything about it just by watching the trailer of if you feel like playing it. I'll talk a little bit about it next so if you will answer to that doubt do it before reading what follows 😂
Skinator is a turn based combat where you "steal" one of the body parts of your enemies and use it to replace your own. Each body part has special abilities and synergies to discover.
It is something like He is coming but with deep tactical combat. If you like that game or Slay the Spire you will probably enjoy skinator. It has a nice twist to it!

Right now we are doing our outreach and marketing and learning on our way thorugh it. Is not easy to get noticed! If you know a youtuber that could enjoy a game like ours let us know!

Anyway. Thanks and hope you enjoy the trailer. 🙏🙏

WebGL build can't play videos on web 😭

Hey guys! I'm trying to get my game to run in Web GL and I'm facing 2 issues:

  1. I used h264 videos to illustrate how to do things in the tutorial but when I open my game on the web player on Itch, those renders are a black block.

Any clues on how could I solve that?

And 2) My webgl build works perfect on windows, mac and android but not on IOs

Thanks in advance!

Turns out you can use negative samples with Arnold :P

Hey guys. These are some characters rendered with Arnold in Maya.

I'm maing an indie videogame called Skinator that has a grungy, pixelated, dithered broken style. I needed a good way to get more 90's looking images and this is what I came up with:

I'm using a toon shader mixed with a -3 samples config. Then I add lights at specific spots to create cool highlights and that makes it pretty easy to get this results. The textures and models are not perfect, but the pixelation hides a lot of that.

For the case of this particular game we needed "modular characters." In the game you can "steal" body parts from the enemies you defeat and use those to modify your body. This means that every body part needed to fit in every other body.

To achieve this, we created render layers for each body part floating in alpha channel. Then we create PSB photoshop files with all of those inside and we get that to Unity where we add bones to the 2D renders of each body part. Those bones then snap together to form the different bodies of the enemies.

I hope this inspires you to create and let me know if you want me to explain any part of the process further!

Hey guys! I wanted to show you our game Skinator to know what you think about the idea in general, the graphics, etc.

The game will be playable on PC and on mobile. There's a free playtest on Steam going on right now if you want to try it yourself instead.

Hey guys! I wanted to share our process to create modular characters for our game Skinator that can be "blended together". We worked a lot to figure all this out so hopefully it helps you too!

u/GlowtoxGames — 19 days ago

Hey everyone! We are making a Roguelike called SKINATOR.

It's a turn based combat game where you can steal body parts from your enemy to replace your own. Each body part has unique abilities that changes your build completely.

We have a free playtest on steam going on and it would be awesome to get some feedback on it if you want to try it out!

To tell you a little bit about the process, we are using unity mostly 2D canvas work.

The characters are pre rendered in maya, then worked on in Photoshop to give them that dithered crunchy look.

To create the "modular" body parts, what we do is rendering them floating in alpha transparency and then we add bones to specific parts of them.

We have Chest, arms, legs and head. (6 parts in total)

The Chests are the main part. It has 5 2D bones on the neck, shoulders and where the legs connect.

Then the limbs and head have 1 bone only. This way we use code to tell unity to "SNAP" the shoulder bone we add to the arms to the shoulder bone we have on the chests.

Hope that kind of explains the logic behind it.

This way we can create characters of different sizes and positions and still have them all be "mixable" where everyhead fits in every chest and so on.

We are a team of 2 developers working on all aspects of this project and we pushed hard to get to this point. But we desperately need your opinion on the project to understand what to strengthen!

Hope you like it and feel free to ask anything about it. Cheers!

Hey! We've been working hard on a demo for the last couple of months. I wanted to tell you al a little about the process and to invite you to test our current free demo on steam.

To briefly describe the game, it is a combat roguelike where you can steal the body parts of the enemies you defeat and install them into your body. Each part has special abilities so your build changes (visually and mechanically) through every run.

To create the characters we render them in maya with very low samples to get the pixelated look, and then we run the characters through a series of photoshop process to make them more crunched out and dithered.

Since your character mutates through the game, we needed to make their bodies modular. For this, each part is brought into Unity where they get bones in specific spots per body part.

The idea behind this is not to animate, since we are bringing each pose as a separated set of sprites, but to let unity know where to place each body part on each body.

So by adding a bone on the shoulder, that acts as an "Achor point" that seeks the bone next to the chest and they snap together.

This way we managed to be able to combine head, chest, 2 arms and 2 legs from any of the 20 characters we created so far between each other.

Through the game you pick new body parts and slowly grow your max health until you face a final boss.

There is a LOT to test, improve and change! So having your feedback would mean the world to us.

Thank you so much in advance and hope you enjoy the demo if you try it!
