“We are just little Belgium, why should we try to save the world” well we are beyond that point already, it’s about preparing for the near future. Not in a couple decades, not in a couple elections, now.
I understand that for the average person, there are more important/urgent issues they care about politically than cLiMaTe ChAnGe, but you should realize that the inevitable climate change and all its (in)direct effects will make almost every single one of those issues worse! Think of housing prices, FOOD prices especially, but cost of living in general. Yeah, immigration will also get absolutely bonkers.
The only problem that might solve itself when shit hits the fan are the pensions but unless you absolutely hate your (grand)parents, that will not be a nice solution.
I’m not the kind of person to go to the streets and the people in my direct environment aren’t either, but the future looks very bleak and as soon as the most recent fire or flood is out of the news cycle, nobody in power seems to give a damn.
The Earth is never gonna actually split open like in a dramatic end-of-the-world movie, but society as we know it will not be sustainable at all anymore without sudden radical action.
It’s about time we get our head out of the sand.
