Majority of my collection (around 90%) was WOTC which moved pretty easily when placed at 90% of the market value. Sold most on eBay (eBay fees are a bitch) but also sold a decent amount on FB marketplace. Got plenty of low ball offers and tons of people wanting to trade modern sealed at their full value. (I have no interest in modern) lots of “whales” on FB wanting to buy huge collections at 50% of their value. A lot of the buyers were investor bros too.
Will the market continue to go up? Maybe, but my guess is it will crash in the next 2-3 years. I added nothing to my collection and the value grew $16k in over a year and that’s even crazier than jumps during the beginning of COVID. Most of the cards were picked up from 2008-2018 as large cheap lots, sealed packs I ripped and singles. It was stupid cheap to collect then and Pokemon was abundant. I did collect a bit in the most recent years but it’s just gotten too crazy with trying to get anything sealed and singles I think are just too overvalued to justify buying. Like Mega Charizard X EX is an amazing looking SIR but no way am I spending $780 on it. Maybe if it was like $50 I would pull the trigger.
I got rid of all my 1st editions and kept the unlimited versions of the cards. Still have:
Shadowless Base Set
Jungle
Fossil
Team Rocket
Gym Heroes
Gym Challenge
Some Black Star Promos
Trade Please! JP Charizard Blastoise Venusaur
My hope/guess is I’ll be recollecting cards when they are back down that I sold. It’ll be fun to hit up shops and places again to hunt.
Edit: Boy some of you are wild. Sorry I found more value with selling Pokemon cards that have gone up exponentially for a car I wanted without having to touch any savings/investments or take out a car loan. Just because someone does something differently than what you would do doesn’t make them wrong. Messaging someone that they are broke and regarded because they sold half their collection to buy a car cash and keep still $18k of it might be projecting a bit.
First photo is mine, with the title “clean disc” because well, it was. Second are his photos, he wants to return for a full refund of course after already owning one.
I hope my wife gets me one because I’ve been giving parts to my kid to for us to build random shit with.

What was just a few sellers a few months ago has turned into a bigger problem. With the influx of poke sellers and sports cards guys going into other markets they are not familiar with. We now have verified sellers with great ratings and history slinging these. The biggest issue? They firmly believe they are selling real cards. Hundreds at this point have likely been scammed and don’t even know it. Here are several examples I’ve found on eBay people are actively bidding and buying. I’ve found 32 sold listings going back to March of obvious fakes and 40+ where the photo quality is simply too hard to tell.
Watch out at card shows, eBay and other platforms, use my previous post to verify if a 1st edition card is fake.
This is only the beginning, the market revolves around hype, money and fomo. Counterfeiters will get better, educate yourselves on the cards, reach out to trusted verifiers, know what you are buying. You can’t trust the guy at the card show or eBay seller with 1000+ sales and 100% feedback.
I have a Gameboy Pocket I’ve had since I was 6, a Gameboy Color, a GBA and a GBA SP I changed to an IPS screen all from my childhood, I thought getting one of these would be be overkill since all the others still worked. I have an Odin 2 Pro I emulate plenty of games on as well. (Though I no longer travel with it since the battery turned into a spicy pillow and smoked on one of my flights)
I was wrong, this is the perfect balance of nostalgia and modern design and I love it. Perfect for my work trips.
10/10 handheld. Great screen, sound, plays carts flawlessly, and I love the minimalist design.
A rep in my market burned a $2k commission deal over pride. They wanted the customer to sign up for all 3 products positioned. All 3 products meant $5k commission for them, customer wanted just 2. The discounts changed a bit but customer was willing to work, rep did not. Stupidly said “it’s all or nothing buddy, I don’t work that way” customer said “fine it’s nothing then, I will work with competitor”
When I talked to them on why they lost this deal, they just kept stating “it’s not worth my time, I got other customers who want to do it all” even though it would’ve been like 30 min of work for them or even I would’ve done it all to make it happen.
I tried reaching out to the customer directly but got VM, sent an email trying to salvage. Rep feels entitled to the deal if I save the customer. I’m debating throwing it to another rep and saying “tough luck buddy, I don’t work that way” but obviously that would be harmful and cause further issues.
How the hell do I coach this guy to see his mistake and teach that it goes further than him just losing part of deal? The customer could be friends with a larger prospect and casually mention “yeah they suck and don’t work with you”
Edit: also to mention this guy isn’t closing deals left and right and really doesn’t have time. Genuinely think he was gambling on the customer just plain commuting and getting $5k commission.
I was extremely happy with the Force of Will extended art and then came the JP Alternate.
First: Referral from a customer, called the lead. Guy immediately cuts me off and says I’m going with someone else who’s better and has a better product. Ask who he’s getting setup with and he named his buddy who sent me the referral has someone. Tell him his buddy told me to call him “oh man, yeah sorry man I thought you were this other company I wanted them to piss off. I am going with you guys because John told me too.” Had a good laugh. Chatted about the setup. “Yeah sounds good, send over the contract. Tell John I told you to fuck off at first, he’ll get a kick outta that”
Second: Cold called an old prospect that got a way higher priced proposal from a rep no longer here 2 years ago. Surprisingly got through the gatekeeper and to the decision maker, nothing setup today still, price was too high originally. Talked about new price and features. “That does fits our budget and is what we were looking for. But need to see what this looks like though before I do anything” get on teams. Do 45 min demo, discuss setup. “Alright let’s do it” sent over agreement, signed 3 min later.
Third: Slowly churning customer, super old legacy products, only a handful of stuff left. Called, asked why they are leaving. Left due to lack of support, no check ins, new company prospected them and upsold them. New company has major issues though, they just want something that works. Discussed how we will take care of them, and how we are going to get them new products that will work and better support. “I have 2 other companies, can I set them all up with you?” After some back and forth over text contracts signed at 5:32pm for all 3 companies.
Totally abnormal day for 3 deals to be done same day so I thought I’d share. All from picking up the phone, chasing deals, and getting lucky. I got no special tactics, no real advice, no perfect slam dunk strategy people constantly post on here.
I’m not sure how to approach this at all. I have a fenced in backyard with a playground that my kid plays on and while my wife and I are inside working she’s allowed to play back there by herself or with a friend if the friend asks and we are able to keep an eye on both. (Since we assume responsibility then)
Lately neighborhood kids have just been letting themselves into our backyard without asking. We advised our daughter to let us know if a friend is coming in and asked if the kids could knock or have their parents text us if they can come.
Now one of the friend’s parents we are friends with (have had dinners together or hungout in the cul de sac) has been letting themselves into our backyard with her kids and not letting us know or ask.
Today I get a text asking if their kids could play but they were already all back there! She brought all of her kids over and was just sitting in our backyard.
This is the 3rd time this has happened Am I overreacting because we are friends and technically I trust her being back there (like I don’t think she would harm or kidnap my kid) or is this a boundary that was crossed I have a right to be upset over?
Edit: locks have been purchased and text was sent out to all parents asking for space to be respected. We decided to just keep it if we are inside no kids in the backyard, because then we only have 1 kid (ours) to keep an eye on (my office and my wife’s office face the backyard entirely, that why she’s allowed to play back there because we can watch her) and our dogs can be back there and we don’t need to worry about them getting out.
