Sopranos?

I only recently finished breaking bad and hear about the Tony soprano comparison mentioned in the interviews with Bryan Cranston and stuff. I've never seen sopranos so I'm wondering if anyone who has seen it can recommend it? Skyler's and Walt's dynamic in season 5 reminded me of the godfather and as a protagonist Walter is more like he wanted to turn into Tony Montana (loved the scene where watched it with Junior as well) so I'm wondering how much Tony Soprano will compare I guess

Anyone else really love the globalist?

People who keep using they/them pronouns even after the preferred pronouns have been established

Even if it is completely clear that some story is talking about a woman or a man and is referenced to as "her" or "him" numerous times in a story/post/message/whatever, there will always be people who keep saying they. First off, it's wrong. Secondly, it's confusing me because I won't understand who you're talking about and most of the time my brain will default to an actual plural subject untill I find out it's not which is annoying. Lastly, it's pretty disrespectful as I wouldn't keep using him or her for someone that prefers they/them, so why is it ok the other way around? Simply annoying habit that people have

Edit: I see a lot of confusion in the comments. My problem is not with the singular use of they in GENERAL, but rather after someone's preferred pronouns have already been established, like the title says. Some people are honestly being very condescending to me while not even reading the title correctly

Edit 2: what peeves me is inconsistency, not whether it is linguistically possible or not

Does anyone else really dislike communion and the oracle

How do you guys feel about this track? To me it feels like the only miss in an otherwise flawless masterpiece because it completely interrupts the flow (for me). Does anyone else feel the same? I probably dislike it more than I should because it's an okay song by itself, it just falls out of place too much on the album if you ask me

Make assumptions about me based on my 8x8 of most scrobbled albums 2019-2026

My only problem with awake...

This might sound crazy but to me, the album feels more dense than something like metropolis pt. 2 or six degrees, and when I get to scarred my attention is at the point of giving up whereas with the other albums I don't have this at all. Especially because the silent man + lifting shadows of a dream get pretty boring to me after the most flawless run of tracks I've ever heard in a prog album. When I listen to scarred and space dye-vest separately I love them but I struggle to listen to the album in one sitting is I guess what I'm trying to say

My "problem" with the new songs is not the production, nor the style

I can dig the ambience they try to make, and most of the riffs still have that classic "Haken rhythm" for me that no other band can truly emulate (I'm thinking the mountain type riffs). However, the basic song structures are not too interesting and most of it is a lot of repetition without payoff. BUT, and this is a big but, I feel like this album could work a LOT better if listened from start to finish as that is what did the trick for me with fauna as well. I initially didn't like the singles, but the album ended up as my favourite after giving it some time to grow. While I understand that "whacky circus prog" Haken is mostly gone, I don't think this has to be bad. Maybe some of you really dislike fauna as well? I honestly don't know what the consensus around the fanbase is, open to hearing your thoughts!

I just want to be normal

I'm tired of always being the weird guy and saying or doing the wrong things. Nobody bothers to explain the social rules to me and it's extremely stressful. The most hurtful thing is that I'm always more introverted untill I start getting comfortable with people, and as soon as I do people will find me off-putting or weird or inappropriate in whatever sense. Then there's my family always complaining that I'm not having enough contact with them or that I'm being rude by not saying arbitrary things that you "are supposed to do" simply because "they say so". I am done with everyone either trying to control me or cutting me loose when I act the way I am comfortable with and I just want to escape this world and start over or something. I'd rather be worm with no sense of the environment at all

When you post an unpopular opinion and people just start insulting you

Like, I get that you don't agree but isn't the point of an online forum to start conversation and meaningful discussion? What's the point of blindly downvoting and commenting "you are stupid for not understanding why you're wrong" without even giving a simple explanation? What is people's god damn problem all the time?

Dustpan

I just really like the word for some reason. It's much more elegant than the Dutch "stoffer en blik". It has a funny sound to it, a pan for dust. It's certainly much better than a plain description like "duster and container" (stoffer en blik)

Cooking recipes that include half a novel for no reason

Just give me the damn list of ingredients and instructions, I don't care that you were inspired to make this recipe because your aunt's barber mentioned it to you or whatever. I don't even care who "you" are, stranger on the Internet, just give me a fucking recipe without giving me 10 paragraphs to filter through first

Most people are unqualified to raise children

Myself included, mind you. Don't even mention all the abusers, most people aren't even qualified to take care of themselves, let alone a whole new human being. The number of stupid things I see fully grown adults do makes me wonder how we aren't extinct already (we probably will be in the next 50 years though). There are so many oblivious, rude adults who still behave like they're children themselves (because they probably weren't raised right either) who will in turn raise their children the same way. Also, problems like antivaxxers who aren't only killing their children, but endangering all other people too by ruining group immunity. Even with proper education these people are just hopeless and should simply not get children ever for their own and everyone else's sake

Edit: spelling

People who argue against calories in calories out

I had a colleague who was adamant that he "only eats one bowl of yoghurt every day but still can't lose weight". No dude, I literally see you chugging fully loaded cokes in your break. At his birthday party this dude just full on ate a bowl of 50 "bitterballen" on his own and afterwards had the audacity to say he didn't have that many. Look, I don't care if you want to stuff yourself and die at age 40 because of a heart attack, just don't pretend you don't understand why you're not losing weight.

Yes, even if you have some sort of medical condition that makes you burn less calories, the principle still stands. You are not some sort of special medical enigma. Eat less. Exercise more. Simple as that, whoever you are. Not losing weight? Eat even less.

People saying hockey when they actually mean ice hockey

I know that ice hockey is the more popular sport in North America, but when someone says hockey I assume they mean field hockey, which is the "standard" form. It's like me saying boxing when I actually mean kickboxing. They are two different sports

Thoughts on young Sheldon?

In my opinion it's OK, but jesus some of the story arcs or tropes are so boring. The best thing about TBBT is the academic setting and nerdy conversations, I honestly wanted to be a part of that friend group. I would just hate growing up with Sheldon's dumbass dad and annoying ass brother. Additionally, and probably more importantly, they retconned so much about Sheldon's life which I didn't like. Yes he might have misremembered because of child trauma and all that jazz, but he honest: Sheldon has an eidetic memory and the producers knew they had to make the characters likeable in anyway.

To end on a positive note: I like Misty, Mary and Meemaw. They are honestly the best characters in that show.

Leg day is the best day in the gym

I don't know why so many seem to hate or -god forbid- skip leg day? Your legs are or should be your strongest body part by far right? Lifting heavy is fun, ergo legs should be the most fun. It's the day I can go all out and absolutely destroy myself and leave with that great feeling of being pumped with endorphins and serotonin.

If anything, pull day is the worst day. Every exercise is way too similar or just a variation on the same movement. I know this last argument could apply to any gym day or split (except for full body I guess), but pull is just sooo boring to me.

Conclusion: shoutout to leg day
