HOKA: Maybe not good for people with balance issues?

I have never worn HOKAs or any of the modern thick soled shoes. Have an older family member who has both balance issues and walking heel to toe. Google says HOKA are good for promoting rolling the foot forward smoothly and PT suggested them for the same reason. That's solving one of the two problems. But I'm concerned that the thick sole may work to make it harder to keep one's balance. Like, I would not want to wear platform shoes if I had balance problems. I'd want to wear a very minimalist shoe. Also, I'm wondering if the system of "unique rocker geometries" that HOKA uses might also work against balance. (I'm saying this in relation to the elderly, not runners/walkers who are young, strong, stable on their feet.)

We have a running store nearby so it's easy to have the relative try them on but I'm more concerned that 5 minutes wearing them won't be enough of an experience to conclude if they are appropriate or not. And falling down later isn't a good way to find out they aren't. Therefore, I'm open to thoughts on the pros and cons of HOKA shoes for someone with these two problems. I just want to do my best to help this person walk better while not falling down. I'll call the company, too, but of course they will likely say their shoes are good for everything, even if they aren't.

Thanks very much for your thoughts.

How often does your HOA hold board meetings that the community is told about? [n/a][All]

I keep reading comments asking OP's if they've attended a board meeting in order to address the issue that their post is about. In order to attend a board meeting, owners need to be told about the board meeting in advance.

Our board last had a meeting that they announced ahead of time or even told us about afterward several years ago. It's just not possible for owners to attend.

I'd like to ask the sub how often does your board meet AND announce the meeting in advance so owners can attend? Let's say, how many times in a year?

Opinion: It's easier to remember to split step when playing someone who hits hard

I have poor footwork, often not split stepping at all no matter how much I remind myself, but noticed it improves quite a bit when playing opponents who hit hard with the ball either coming back with pace or with so much spin that you've gotta be ready to react. Splitting becomes much more natural and I don't have to think about it much at all.

Hopefully, the more I play with these opponents, the improved footwork will carry over to times when I am up against the weaker hitters.

For those here with footwork that could use some practice, try to get a hitting session in with a harder or flatter hitter to put time pressure on yourself to see if you find the same.

Shoes are getting too expensive!

The shoe model I wear recently went from retail price $138 to $170 when changing generations. 23% increase!

I only buy 2-3 pairs/year. Can't imagine what it's like for parents with kids on the high school/college tennis team, especially if they slide!!! 1-2 pairs/month?

(To be fair, before COVID shoe inflation was much lower so perhaps it all works out over the long-run.)

Have your favorite shoes gone up a crazy amount recently?

Premium Balls: Sometimes too bouncy/lively?

Like most people here, I find the Penn Championship balls to often be dead. Today I surprisingly had the opposite experience with the Wilson US Opens. They were way, way too lively and everything was going long, especially volleys which were flying beyond the baseline.

I would avoid the US Opens like I do the Penn Champs if they always played like this, which I know they don't. The can we used last week was fine. (I sometimes feel the Pro Penn Marathons are a bit more bouncy than I like but nowhere near this much.)

Anyone else ever get a can of premium balls that was way too lively?

What's Going On? 32 text messages within a few minutes of finishing a call with Xfinity

Called Xfinity (twice, one immediately after the other). Once I finished the second call, Xfinity sent me 32 text messages all in a row (over maybe 3 minutes). They all were the same but with a different link: "Click here to review your Xfinity order"

I didn't make any changes. I was just speaking with billing each time.

I'm not going to click on any of the links.

What's up with this? Thanks for an explanation.

Will Both of These GE and Whirlpool Parts Work with My Washer?

I have a GE washer WSM2420TCAWW. A part broke and inside I can see a stamp with two pieces of information:

P/N 3362682-GRAY

ASSY 3362683-GRAY

Research says the first is now replaced by GE WH45X144 and the second replaced by WP63840.

Google says they are the same part but warns they "are not always cross-compatible" and we should only buy the parts that matches our manufacturer.

I want to ask if these are actually the same part (besides maybe color) and the WP part will definitely work with my GE machine? (Of course, I'm asking because I can get the WP part for much cheaper than the GE part.)

Thanks for any assistance/confirmation.

If HOA tenant does damage to a building in the HOA can the HOA go after the landlord owner?

I didn't know if I should flair this home insurance or auto insurance.

Generally, in an HOA, the board/management doesn't have to deal with a tenant but rather the owner who is the landlord has the relationship with the HOA and so is the middleman. But this is a unique situation.

In another sub a tenant reported he hit a building in the HOA where he rents. One commenter is saying that the HOA can go after the landlord because his tenant did damage. Does that sound right? If so, of course the owner will pass that cost along to the tenant.

Then can the HOA or its insurance simply ignore any contact from the tenant's auto insurance, even if they are willing to be the paying entity? If the HOA can simply bill the owner then there's effectively no way for the tenant to argue about the amount of damage at all. Seems like they or their auto insurance can't even take it to court. It can't be that the HOA can just bill the condo owner as much as they would like and if the owner doesn't fight it then the tenant has to pay that amount to the owner with no recourse whatsoever.

I'm probably looking at this incorrectly. Please help explain it to me.

Thanks.

Strong Complaint that all your customers should see

I've spent several hours with Xfinity customer support today. All I wanted was the generic web page address to see my devices.

7 or 8 live chat agents

1 phone agent

Several Reddit agents

No one could give me this very very secret info.

People kept telling me to click on a non-existent Devices tab.

Others gave me a link that would automatically take me there once logged in.

Nothing worked. Hours invested.

Then someone on another sub in their first comment told me to go to https://customer.xfinity.com/#/devices.

Yes, this is exactly what I was looking for. Thanks to that person.

Don't mean to be rude to the people who work this sub but I'm sure you can understand my frustration. I know it's not your fault. You tried your honest best to assist me.

But how bad is it that with hours and over 10 people no one could come up with this simple page address?

You know who I am because I submitted my info to the mods. I'd be glad to speak with a higher level manager to discuss today's experience and this past 30 days' experience. And really my past 20+ years' experience. Have them give me a call.

I've already responded to Valerian Frank, title unknown. I'd be happy to speak with someone higher up.

Web address to see the devices on my account that I'm renting (not the devices connected by wifi)

Anyone know the website address to see a list of equipment I have from Xfinity? I just want to see what cable boxes they have listed for me.

I am on Windows, not the app.

Web address to see the devices that I'm renting from Xfinity (set top boxes)

Please, oh, please let me know the website address (from my Windows 10, not from the app) to see the list of devices I have from xfinity. I have seen it recently but can't find it now. And the AI agent was so bad. The live chat agent seems to be playing games with me.

And I should not have to verify my account for generic info like this. It's not like Xfinity.com/devices should be kept secret only for verified customers.

I hope you can see that I'm exasperated, writing in here while chatting with the agent who is playing games with me. Oh, I just got "accidentally disconnected" and reconnected with a new agent so I have to start all over. Great!

Thanks.

PS - you can view my recent submission here to see I'm not playing around. I'm just trying to get this info.

[All][N/A] Selective enforcement is too difficult to prove and the perception of unfair treatment causes friction in a community

Inspired by a recent post:

TL;DR - I feel certain HOA violation citations/fines should be reviewable records instead of private information.

Longer version - While I am a rule follower, strive to correct my behavior and believe others should too, I also believe in transparency. There's an inherent lack of it in board practices (sometimes backed up by code) around violation notices. In this sub there's an attitude that people should mind their own business and just be sure they are following the rules while not caring if others are cited for the same behavior. I agree that if I'm in violation, I should first and foremost correct my actions/lack of actions.

If I am cited for speeding by the city police, it's public info. If I am cited for not cutting the grass by the county, it's public info. If I am arrested, it's public info. But if I leave my trashcans out overnight or paint my front door the wrong color, it's private info.

I realize the first three are government actions and governed by open records laws while the last is a quasi-government action governed more by privacy laws. But it would seem to me that it would be more beneficial to the community if at least certain violations were provided upon request after they have passed their appeals stage.

We get frequent comments here where OPs say no one else is receiving a violation for what they are now fined. We know that the OPs really have no idea if anyone else has been cited. But logic also would lead one to conclude that if I receive a violation and cure it but know that at that same time several others were in clear violation but haven't changed the offending issue after several months then likely they haven't received a citation. Additionally, if the monthly financials only show an amount that I've paid and no other violation revenue then I'd be even more convinced.

The friction this causes could be mostly diminished if the board were willing to share specific violation notices after a certain period of time.

So, why are we so private with HOA violations when info that is usually thought of as much more sensitive is available to the public freely online or with a FOIA request?

Note that I do realize that different boards may choose to cite different violations to different extents. So, it's not fair to say that 3 years ago Joe wasn't cited but today I was.

Violations I feel should be provided upon request (things that are obvious to anyone):

-wrong color mailbox

-wrong color door/exterior walls/trim/shingles, etc

-attractive nuisance in yard

-unapproved structure in plain sight

-trash cans left out after approved hours

Violations I can understand not being provided (things people can't see directly without violating privacy, things that are obviously embarrassing, etc.):

-Hoarding causing a fire risk

-uncleanliness causing an infestation

-drinking alcohol at the pool or using glass containers at the pool

Short Complaint and Request for Assistance

Short complaint:

Called in to discuss changing plans and was told that our plan "now" includes HD at no extra charge. I have not idea how long "now" meant: months? Years? Doesn't matter and didn't bother me. But since it was now included, I was happy to try it.

Couldn't tune in any HD channels. Spoke with Tech Support who assured me that our DTA cable boxes could get HD. He was unable to guide us to tune in any of them. Scheduled a tech to visit the house.

Before the tech appt date, Xfinity Advanced Tech Support kept calling and calling us. Spoke to first person who assured us the DTA boxes could get HD channels. Was unable to help us tune in any. Spoke to his supervisor who assured us the DTA boxes could get HD channels. Was unable to tune in any.

Next day they called again. Spoke to first person who assured us the DTA boxes could get HD channels. Was unable to help us tune in any. Received another call. Spoke to a rep who assured us the DTA boxes could get HD channels. Was unable to help us tune in any.

Advanced Tech Support didn't call again.

Total time on phone with regular and advanced tech support was over 3 hours.

Tech visited. 2 minutes in the house and he says, "yeah, those boxes can't get HD channels. I don't know why they told you they could."

This is the second time something similar happened. Last time wasn't about HD channels but did involved a long time on the phone and then the visit. I think on that visit it was only 30 seconds in the house and the tech said those boxes can't do that.

Aaargh!!!!

Why oh why does the "Advanced Technical Support Team" not know these things. 4 of them. 5 people total that I spoke to.

And then waiting around for the tech to visit in person.

Should have been a 5 minute call and that's all. I didn't even mention the other calls or the two trips to the Xfinity store because those are a different issue.

I'd like assistance with that issue. Can you please set up a ticket for me and I'll DM with the account details? (May take me a bit to get back to Reddit later today.)

Thanks

Just Switched from Mint. A short report on my experience with data usage and switching

Am mostly on wifi so don't need much data. Been trying to save money on cell service for many years now. I've been on AT&T, T-Mobile, Total Wireless, Visible and Mint.

Short story is that only when on Mint did I use so much more data than ever before. Over one 5 day span I used as much as I usually do in 5 months! Mint didn't care to help troubleshoot.

Realized that I would need an unlimited plan with Mint whereas I previously only needed a 5GB plan on T-Mobile. Don't really have any idea why my data usage added up to be so much more than on other carriers over the past several years. But others reported the same online. I imagine it's not a significant portion of customers but do believe the reports.

At the rate of using data, it made sense to change to another company for a year of unlimited for about $240 vs the Mint unlimited at $360.

I had an overlapping month and today went to port my number from Mint to my current carrier. Needed to get my Mint account number and PIN. Mint wants customers to call in for that info. I assumed so they can convince people to stay. I was right.

Call went on for 32 minutes and during that time this rep tried so very hard to get me to stay. Even after I explained that I had paid for a year up front. He asked me to contact the new company and get a refund for the 11 months I haven't used yet. Sure, that's going to fly.

There must be a 50% off promo now because the rep offered to give me 4 months free so that paying for the remaining 8 months on a year plan would only average $10/month. Maybe 12 months unlimited is $180 right now??? That would be great!

Suggested that I might have background things going on. But I pointed out that with about 25 days on the new carrier, I've only used 3GB of data. And didn't have trouble with other carriers.

Anyway, he eventually yielded and provided the info I need. Would love to stay with Mint but it would have been nice if they could explain what's going with my phone on Mint or at least try to help me figure it out. Regardless, my data usage is now seemingly back to normal with the new company.

Which of These Software Versions is Newest? TV is PN51E450 Plasma

TV is PN51E450 Plasma

Current software version is T-MX9HAUSC-1015

Samsung says current version is 1011.1 on the product page. Doesn't mention T-MX9HAUSC but I assume it's the same.

Usually, a higher number is a more recent software version, I thought. So, it seems to me that 1015 should be newer. But am I incorrect here? (Note that I don't remember ever updating the software so this could be original at time of purchase.)

Only reason I'm concerned is the cable TV guy is coming and I don't want him to say our problem is that the software is not up to date and so they have to charge for the visit. I feel it's a problem their box is causing.

Thanks for any assistance.

2000 Toyota Camry V6 Automatic, 90000 Miles: Need for Coolant and Drain Fill vs Flush at this point

90K on Camry. Last coolant service was 4,000 miles ago in 2020. Based on time, I figure I should replace the coolant. Last time it seems that it was a flush, not a drain and fill. But I'm basing that on the dealer receipt that says they used part #01161, which the label calls Radiator Flush Kit with a bottle of "Cooling System Fast Flush" and a bottle of "Cooling System Treatment."

  1. Should we do anything at all at this time? I figure yes based on time.

  2. Should we do this same flush with part #01161 or just a drain and fill since it's only been 4,000 miles? I'm wondering if there's anything really to clean up with these products given it's only been 4,000 miles.

Note: going to the dealer because for some reason around here the independent mechanics charge as much or sometimes more than the dealer.

Thanks for your assistance!
