Did you turn down weekly appointments?

I’m 34 weeks with my second baby (first time GDM) and was diagnosed around 30 weeks. Today at my normal checkup, my provider was asking if I’d be interested in twice weekly appointments. One for doing an ultrasound just to check on baby and one for a NST. I’m diet controlled and baby has been measuring around the 55th percentile, all measurements at last ultrasound were either exactly at GA or a day or two below or above. My weight has stayed pretty much the same just fluctuating around the same weight for about a month. I’ve been trying to be more active and have added little workouts (instead of the walking I usually did pre pregnancy, just because it’s so hot where I live).

Anyways, I initially said yes to the twice weekly appointments and I got them all scheduled but now i’m second guessing it. I don’t live far from the office but the gas cost to drive there and back is a bit. Plus I will have my 2.5 year old with me probably for most of the appointments because no one can really watch him. He does pretty good during appointments but i’ve found that the later into pregnancy I get, the longer it takes for the appointments to start. So by the time the actual doctor is in, i’ve been waiting for 30 minutes (which I know isn’t very long compared to a lot of people) and my son just is the type that wants to play with EVERYTHING.

I obviously know the risks with GDM but with my last pregnancy I was diagnosed with thyroid cancer and wasn’t ever given the idea to have that level of monitoring. Of course GDM probably affects baby and placenta a bit more, but everywhere I was reading said that in most cases diet controlled aren’t usually monitored that closely. My MFM at my last appointment hadn’t mentioned anything about it and was completely okay with just seeing me back in 4 weeks for another ultrasound for growth.

I hope this doesn’t make me come off as careless or selfish, i’m just genuinely curious how many other diet controlled people are going twice weekly.

Experiences with taking unisom and fasting numbers

Hi everyone. I’m 32 weeks and about 2.5 weeks into having GDM and my fasting numbers are usually pretty low, 80-85 but recently they’ve gone to the low 90s. My OB says goal is to stay under 95 but the MFM i’m going to says to stay under 90. I really think my sleep plays a big part in it. I eat meals around the same time everyday (6:30PM) and my numbers after that are usually around 110.

Past few nights i’ve been having quite a bit of insomnia and find myself tossing and turning or have been going to bed a lot later than normal. Last night I went to bed fairly early but still had to wake up to pee and couldn’t go back to bed. I also take medicine for my thyroid when I go to pee so I don’t know if that can affect numbers too.

Basically wondering what everyone’s experience was with unisom while tracking your fasting numbers and if anyone has noticed higher vs lower numbers. Just scared to start taking it and my numbers go up even more.

What are the odds of having to get an induction? How many people weren’t induced?

Hi so i’m super new to GDM and was only diagnosed last week and have only been testing for 4 days. So far all my numbers have been fine. Fasting number peaked this morning at 90 but still under my clinics requirement. I’m only 31w4d so i’ve got a little bit of time. I go to see MFM this friday for my first high risk appointment where they will do an ultrasound. My last ultrasound at 20w baby was measuring a little small and the ultrasound tech said that my due date could possibly even be pushed back about a week or two. That was obviously before diagnosis so maybe i’ve been fattening this girl up accidentally but won’t know till Friday what she’s looking like.

I only ask because I was induced with my first due to needing to have surgery due to having papillary thyroid cancer and was induced at 37w3d and my son was 6.7lbs. I didn’t know at the time the affects pitocin could have on contractions and thought it was normal to have absolutely no break from the contractions. I luckily was able to have an epidural at 6cm but still remember screaming through the pain because it got to a point where I couldn’t catch my breath between contractions.

I really wanted a different experience and didn’t know that being induced is something that goes hand in hand with GDM. I sobbed to my husband after reading on here how common it is and now i’m scared of giving birth all over again. Might sound so dramatic but I really wanted this pregnancy to be different and way easier on me mentally but it’s definitely not been very easy.

First time with GD and am a little confused about my doctors instructions

Hi everyone! I’m pregnant with my second and was diagnosed with gestational diabetes for the first time. Yesterday my OB called to explain what the rest of my pregnancy will look like and how I should go about it. A little upset because now I have to see MFM, only because I was hoping this pregnancy would be the simplest thing in my life because the last pregnancy I had health problems unrelated to pregnancy that ended up affecting how I the pregnancy was carried out.

One thing i’m confused about is she said to avoid carbs over the phone but in the message in my portal she said to keep carbs between 45-60 and 15 for snacks. I thought the whole point was to try and cut them out, is that not a good idea? I don’t eat a ton of carbs as is in my day to day, only real time is during dinner if I cook pasta or a rice bowl (the rice bowls are gonna be a hard cut out for me because I usually make them so I have lunches for the next few days). But even then those aren’t weekly meals, usually I stick to chicken and some sort of veggie because they’re cheap.

Moral of this post, am I supposed to track my carbs like that or can I just avoid carbs? I obviously can look at packages for foods and see if they have carbs and know sometimes they can’t be avoided but seems like annoying work to get carbs. I know even some whole foods have carbs so obviously wouldn’t be talking about those.

Scared of getting an infection after sex

So… my husband and I were having sex normally and he decided that he wanted to try anal sex. We’ve done it before in the past (talking 7 years ago) and I remember absolutely hating it and just feeling like shit afterwards. No pun intended. But tonight he wanted to try it again. I didn’t really want to and I won’t go into it to much but I did let him try but once again I didn’t like it, was painful and didnt want to continue it so I told him to stop. He then put it in my vagina like normal and we were done but now i’m maybe unrealistically (or rightfully) worried that I could get an infection. I’ve only had a UTI once in my life but never anything else. I did the usual pee after sex but also understand that doesn’t flush out my actual vagina.

Does one just monitor for symptoms? What would those be if so?

Wish I would’ve just stuck to myself and what I was comfortable with knowing I didn’t like it cause then I wouldn’t be worrying right now.

UPDATE:

Thank you everyone for your comments and concerns. I do want to say that this was indeed consensual, I gave him the yes and took it back after feeling it. The first time around was 7 years ago and he’s maybe asked twice in that timeframe and has never pushed it. I will say I only said yes because I did feel pressure to and I know that that’s stupid and I shouldn’t feel guilty for knowing I don’t like something and sticking to it.

We’re only 26 and got married at 18 so we were each other’s firsts in terms of sex. Considering the first time was full out butt stuff and not back to vagina we’d never done that before. I of course know that him going back in was stupid and I understand the female body and that infections are caused by things like that. I didn’t think about it until after he was already in and was done in no joke 2 pumps. Obviously careless by both of us and especially that I didn’t say anything in the moment.

We did have a talk after about how I really don’t like doing that and he said he was sorry and wouldn’t bring it up again. He’s clueless on a lot of women things so I don’t think he was meaning any malintent. Obviously doesn’t give him an excuse since he’s married to a woman but we’ve also once again never have done back to front stuff. I made sure to tell him about how now I have to be on high watch with infection as well as everything else going on in my body and how this pregnancy is already so much for me and now I have a whole new stress added on. Also gave him a little lesson on the women body and UTIs and infections happen especially since we’re expecting a girl so if he’s going to change diapers he needs to know anyway.

I’ve gone ahead and messaged my OB about it as a precaution in case something does happen and if I don’t hear back before they close I will go ahead and give them a call later. Usually they’re pretty quick with getting back through the portal and are good with letting me know what the best thing to do is.

Anyone have any ideas on how to remove this stain?

I had washed these with a load of laundry that I had a pen in it and looked at each clothing item and didn’t see the stain on anything. Wasn’t till I took these out of the dryer that I found the pen had stained it. It’s wet right now because I tried rubbing alcohol but had no affect on it at all.

It is 70% rayon 30% linen. A lot of places I was reading were saying they were donezo since I dried them already, but was wondering if someone had some expertise. I’m usually the one to just never wear it or toss it if they’re stained but they’re on of my favorite pairs of pants this pregnancy.

Thoughts on cutting my Ficus Elastica Tineke

So I got this beauty back in 2021 in California while I lived there when it was just a baby. In Sept 2024 we moved back home to AZ and it unfortunately lost a lot of leaves due to being in a hot car for 2 days. Then moved in with family and it didn’t get great lighting until I set up my soltech light for it. Now living in my own home, i’ve noticed how much it’s leaning and had tried to mend that just by trying to over correct the lean while repotting. It also has slowed down growth a lot and I haven’t seen a new leaf in about 7 months. It’s right infront of a S facing window that gets pretty heavy afternoon sun and my soltech light is in the corner to the right. This is my favorite plant to the idea of cutting scares me but i’m willing to do it if it will help. My only question is where should I cut to try and prop? Or should I try to move up a pot size?

I have a burgundy ficus and have had really great success while propagating so it gives me hope, but just don’t want to lose my plant.

Would having boost make this actually worth?

I’m referring to now being able to use points for groceries. I only shop on Fridays during the 4x points but I also don’t feel like this is that beneficial like at all… Max points i’ve had at a time is 700 so you’re telling me that gets me a whopping.. $7 off 🥴 I’d take the gas any day.

Scared I might have reoccurrence

Back in maybe May/June of 2023 while I was in for my first OB appointment while pregnant with my son (8w pregnant at the time) my OB said it looks like my neck had some swelling. She ordered tests and sent me a rapid refferal to ENT and within the week I was told it came back as PTC. I was induced at 37 weeks with so that I could have surgery sooner. Two weeks after giving birth I went in and had a total thyroidectomy (and removed one lymph node to be sure) and had to be away from my son 2 week old son for nearly 3 days. Did all my follow ups for the first year and there wasn’t any signs. I moved back to my homestate Sept 2024 and lost all doctors and only started seeing a PCP. I was given a referral to a doctor at the middle of 2025 but turns out they didn’t take my insurance and I wasn’t in the space to be paying out of pocket for ultrasounds and blood work. Found out I was pregnant again (now 23 weeks) and started seeing an OB who was doing the blood work for me. My levels kept raising and so she reffered me to endocrinology. They raised my levo again and ordered me an ultrasound, which I just had done. I’m 26 now (23 when diagnosed) and felt just as scared during the ultrasound. My stepdad just passed last week from cancer and so i’m just maybe on high alert. She was scanning and just typing the parts of my neck but when she got to the left side she was scanning a lot more. At my first appointment here the doctor had been feeling my neck a lot on that same side. I saw her scan a part of my and then whip out the measurement tool and type nodule 1. I don’t know if i’m working myself up, but it made me as scared as I was with the first time all over again. Also made me mad at myself because I know I should’ve been doing more frequent tests but honestly let my anxiousness talk me out of it.

TMI - pregnancy poops

I don’t know what to flair this, but i’m over it so i’m calling it a rant 😂 I’m currently 20 weeks pregnant with my second baby and the pooping situation this time around is absolutely horrible. With my first, my poops stayed fairly consistent as they were before getting pregnant just maybe pooped a little more often. This time around is soooo different.

I swear 9/10 times my poop feels like it’s never going to get wiped up. Even when I wipe till the TP is clean (AND using a butt wipe!!) I’ll wipe later in the day and there will still be like a small streak. Like is this poop slowly leaking out of me or what?

The SMELL too, don’t even get me started. Of course poop smells but maybe it’s just my change of smell or what but these have been foul poops. It ranges from poops smelling like a mcdonald’s bathroom to poops that smell like my dogs poop (that one is very new and honestly I don’t think I pooped in two days prior so could definitely have just been stewing).

Don’t get me started on the discharge that comes out of my vagina when I am done pooping too. It’s not as this as a mucus plug but definitely is mucusy. I have talked to my OB and they say it’s normal as long as i don’t notice certain signs but omg i’m over it.

Any tips for normal poops would be great and maybe to feel like i’m not alone 😅

Anyone have experience with losing benefits right before childbirth?

Hi everyone! I’m currently pregnant with my second baby at honestly not a great time. My husband is set and scheduled to get out of the Airforce September 4th. My current due date is set at September 26th. He’s currently in a skillbridge program and is interning with a company that offers family plans, but we’re unsure about what that will look like and if we get the coverage before baby is born. I’ve been kind of bugging him about asking to see if he could get the insurance ball rolling with the internship/new job since his first date he can be hired on is the day after he’s out of the military. Don’t know if it’ll be a 30 day wait period or if it will be a week or two.

I’m pretty much looking at options to have MAYBE 2 months of coverage that’s similar to tricare. I dont think the cost of the birth is stressing me too much just because our hospital has options for price deduction, but my OB doesn’t charge every appointment to tricare. They only charge the first appointment and then the rest of the appointments are billed after delivery. Which kinda stresses me out because I saw every bill from my old OB and the amount they charge to see you for 5 minutes is wild. I also have preexisting conditions (PTC and hypothyroidism due to the PTC) which makes this more fun.

We were freshly 18 when we got married and didn’t have to do much to get me enrolled into tricare, so figuring this out now at 26 makes me feel so dumb.

Located in Phoenix, Arizona.

This is in my raised garden bed where I have noticed a few jumping spiders, as well as some baby jumpers. As you can see in the second clip but that one also could be a different spider??

More interested in what the first clip spider is because it’s kinda creepy. I have marigolds, strawberries and peppers in this garden bed and as long as this spider isn’t a biter and won’t kill my baby jumping spider friends he’s good to stay. If not he’s getting relocated over my fence.

I thought it was an earwig but looks a little weird. Located in Central Arizona, maybe about the size of a dime if that. Couldn’t see any sort of wings.

I got a better video but can’t post videos.

Hi! My son is two and about a year ago my mom gave me all of my sister and I’s little people playsets from when we were kids. I have at LEAST 8 sets and storing them is fairly hard. She had them in two HUGE storage boxes but I’m pregnant with baby #2 and will need the space. My son loves playing with them and if I had the space I’d genuinely set up a whole little people town for him but not realistic 😂

I do have two target cubby systems but some of the sets don’t fits great in it. Love to hear what other people do!

Hi! Not super related to being pregnant minus the fact that i’m 18 weeks pregnant with my second and maybe it’s just playing a role in how sad it makes me. The other week I told my husband that I wanted to make my mom on of those little cement garden stepping stones because I remember doing it as a kid for my mom and grandma for mother’s day. He brought up not knowing what to get his mom and I told him we could do the same thing but I wanted him to be involved making them if that was the case.

My first baby is now two so i’ve been a mom the past 2 mothers days and haven’t gotten anything from him. I love that he wants to get his mom something but when I mentioned even just maybe wanting flowers this year he said “but you’re not my mom so why would I buy you something”. I said well I am your son’s mom (who’s 2 so you know can’t really buy a gift for me) and even if you spent the time making something for me with him it’d mean so much. I feel like it isn’t going to happen so i’m not getting my hopes up but Im just curious if anyone else cares about this stuff? Not asking for a birkin bag or anything and I know we aren’t made of money but I feel like every holiday he spends hundreds on his family and I don’t get literally anything.

I’m a SAHM so I don’t have the money to do grand gifts for him, but every year i’ve gotten him something that I feel is meaningful and shows how much I appreciate him as well as have our son make him something special.

I feel like i’m not asking for much considering MY SISTER got me a mother’s day gift last year and also made a craft with my son for me.
