Getting over my fear of wasps <3

Getting over my fear of wasps <3

Ever since I was stung in the face by a mud wasp when I was a kid, I've always been a little scared of wasps and bees in general. After spending years learning about the natural ecosystem and trying to turn my own yard into a sanctuary (now a registered monarch way station) I'm finally tackling the last crawlies that I'm afraid of! WASPS. Considering I now have a giant (and I mean GIANT) yellow jacket nest in my wall, I'm going to have to get used to these lil guys fast. To be honest their fluff is a little adorable...

Who is this lil guy?

Located in western PA. I wanted to hold him but I wasn't sure if he could sting or not and he looked rather annoyed already. God forbid I move him where he won't get stepped on. 🙄

Any ideas what might've made this giant web in my maple tree?

Western PA. I wasn't able to get up high enough to look inside the tunnel, but I've definitely seen a giant fishing spider around here before. Wolf spider? Something else?

What are the little limbs moving on this freshly emerged monarchs face?

I know the spiral is the proboscis, but what are the little fuzzy limbs around it?

Is this lil lady alright?

I've been watching a few chrysalises over the past few days and noticed some black spots form on this one. Is this normal? Is something going wrong inside?

Need help with wolpertinger ideas!

I'm not really sure if this is the right sub for it, but furries always have the best ideas so I'm sure I'll get good advice anyway. My thought process here is that this paint job doesn't really complete the mask and that some other technique to add texture would be better? I know some people use loose felt with glue to make it look soft without the trouble of patterning and all that, but maybe you guys have some better ideas? Some ideas on how to cover up the gap between the ears and the mask would be helpful too. (Btw the white in the middle is supposed to resemble a glowing star but all I got is luster paint) I've got a bunch of neutral brown and green yarns, some artificial moss, and some honey brown shag fur if that sparks any ideas 😋

Twenty Years After by Alexandre Dumas.

Sorry if the pictures are iffy, my power is out right now :( Any additional info or fun facts? I don't usually collect old books but some of the things I came across were just too cool to pass up! (Like a book of Jewish literature from 1888)

Underweight and struggling puppy, need help convincing stubborn parents.

This puppy is a result of an accidental litter with chiwawa terrier (?) mutts and my parents refused to spay and abort for whatever reason. It's a month old and only weighs around a pound while his other three siblings weigh about 2 and a half to 3 pounds. He had trouble feeding off of Mom and it seemed to be a struggle with not suckling, we supplemented with replacement milk to be sure he was eating something, now we feed watered down soft food to try and get him to gain weight.

No visible weight gain and he does this thing where he licks up food instead of eating and pauses to swing his head up and lick like something is stuck in his mouth. I've checked his mouth multiple times, nothing stuck or wrong developmentally in the mouth area.

I'm afraid it's something neurological because the two parents are mutts we got as strays. My parents refuse to take him to a vet or a rescue even though I tell them that we can't help him enough and I don't want to see this puppy die because of their ego. What do I do? Any advice on how to convince them to surrender him to someone more qualified?

Best way to smooth out dried foam clay?

I used foam clay to map out the shape that I wanted onto this mask but clearly I did NOT smooth it out enough to look final. Pro tip: do not do something that requires dexterity when it's 2 am. I have plasti dip on hand but from what I can tell it's more of a primer to paint on eva foam than a way to smooth things out. Could this be solved using multiple layers of plasti dip or is there something else that would smooth this out better?

Trying to find the maker!

Not sure if this is the right sub so if it isn't please point me in the right direction! Made of a hard green resin material, no maker's mark or brand logo on it. I tried using Google search but it didn't give me anything useful. Any direction is appreciated! Bought it second hand from Mercari and the seller couldn't give me any extra info on it.

Two male jumping spiders fighting!

Only ever saw this once and I figured to share! After this they sort of bear hugged (biting each other I'm assuming) and rolled off the rock into the plants.

Little mustache man!

Out of all the robber flies I've held I don't think I ever noticed a mustache... He must be proud of it!

Biggest mama I've ever held!

Found this graceful lady while I was gardening and couldn't resist the chance for a little photoshoot. I'm surprised she was calm enough to get these pictures, but I'm not gonna complain!

Who is this beautiful little guy?

I live in central/western PA. Found this guy in our wash bay at work and saved em from my rather bug murderous coworker. It's quite the fast little bugger compared to most of the spiders I've found. Very pretty silvery blue stripes on this guy!

Barn swallow or something else?

These guys fly around our bus garage and I've never managed to get a picture of them perched anywhere until now. About two hours North of Pittsburgh.

Is this actually a Kentucky Warbler?

It gave me the same ID on three different recordings, but it seems so bizarre to hear one around two hours North of Pittsburgh!
