Probably the most epic one minute of football the world has ever witnessed...
“Bruno Fernandes doesn’t create chances when he plays for Portugal”
Liverpool 4–0 Real Madrid | UEFA Champions League 2008/09 🏆
One of the most unforgettable European nights in Anfield history.
Liverpool entered the second leg of their Round of 16 tie against Real Madrid with a narrow 1–0 advantage from the first leg at the Santiago Bernabéu, thanks to Yossi Benayoun’s late winner. Real Madrid still had every chance of turning the tie around.
But what happened at Anfield was absolute domination.
Liverpool started at an incredible intensity, constantly putting pressure on the Madrid defence. In the 16th minute, Fernando Torres opened the scoring after controlling Dirk Kuyt’s pass and finishing past Iker Casillas.
Then came the Steven Gerrard show.
In the 28th minute, Gabriel Heinze was penalised for handball inside the box, and Gerrard calmly converted the penalty to make it 2–0 on the night.
Liverpool were already in complete control, but they weren’t finished.
Just two minutes into the second half, Gerrard scored again, connecting brilliantly with Ryan Babel’s cross and sending a powerful finish beyond Casillas.
3–0 Liverpool. 4–0 on aggregate.
Real Madrid desperately needed a response, but Liverpool continued to dominate the game. The Spanish giants struggled to cope with the intensity and relentless attacking football of Rafa Benítez’s side.
Then, in the 88th minute, Andrea Dossena completed the humiliation with Liverpool’s fourth goal, sealing a stunning 5–0 aggregate victory.
The numbers told the story: Liverpool had 16 shots, 12 of them on target, while Real Madrid managed only three shots on target.
For Madrid, it was another painful Champions League exit in the Round of 16. For Liverpool, it was a statement European performance that reminded everyone why Anfield was one of the most intimidating stadiums in Europe.
Fernando Torres bullied the Madrid defence. Steven Gerrard delivered a captain’s masterclass. Iker Casillas was left helpless. And Anfield produced another legendary European night.
Liverpool 4–0 Real Madrid.
5–0 on aggregate.
A night Madrid would never forget.

When Kylian Mbappé faced Lamine Yamal in the UEFA Euro 2024 semi-final on 9 July 2024, it was seen as a clash between one of football’s biggest stars and its brightest young talent.
Everyone knows Ousmane Dembélé is one of the most skillful and unpredictable wingers in the world. He twists defenders inside out, breaks defensive lines, and possesses explosive pace, but every now and then... the "ball-hog" mode simply takes over his system!
Messi waits for everyone😍❤️ Not literally everyone but trust me, there're too many videos of him waiting for random strangers to give them joy. Respect.

Nico Williams is one of Spain and football’s brightest stars. Last November against Levante, he produced this stunning chip to cap off a 2-0 away win for Atletico Bilbao.
He also created three chances, completed three dribbles, and consistently pushed Levante’s defense back with his direct running. His ability to break lines and carry the ball into dangerous areas made him a constant threat throughout the match, and showed why he is world class.
