What the hell is 5G++?

My phone no longer connects to 5G+, it's always 5G++. Speeds have been divided by 4, and the ping is awful. I even see buffering at 150Mbps (normal 5G+ i used to have 500Mbps+)

Any way to fix this? This is new, its just been 2 weeks.

[Guide] What to do if you're not receiving mail?

Earlier, I made a post on how to send mail. Check here.

Felt I should add what to do if you are not receiving any.

DISCLAIMER: India Post is a highly subsidised, and a loss-making entity. The employees are under a LOT of pressure to meet deadlines and deliver mail, so even with all these steps below, you still may not receive any mail. Cannot beat bad luck :)

Domestic Mail

Domestic mail almost exclusively travels by surface (trains and trucks). This single handedly adds a very long transit time, and since ordinary mail is low priority, many times sorters do not close and dispatch bags until they are sufficiently. This means your mail can sit in a bag somewhere at a sorting hub for MONTHS! I feel like north eastern states move ordinary mail by air (received few ILCs from Tripura in just 5 days), but not sure.
If you're in a city well connected by rail, chances are it will make it to you.

International Mail

International mail is sent via Delhi or Mumbai, most of the time. It is sent by surface to these cities, before being airlifted to its destination country. Similarly for arrivals, it comes via air to these cities, and then gets dispatched outside. Some countries have surface mail, these mostly come via Chennai, Kolkata or Mumbai.
TLDR for International mail, the closer you are to Delhi or Mumbai, the faster you will get it.

What to do if nothing is arriving?

Step 0 - Double check your pincode! While ordinary mail is re-routed sometimes, it can take months to get to its correct address if you mess up the pincode.

Step 1 - Contact your local post office. Get in touch with your local postperson, exchange numbers with them, be friends with them. They are under intense pressure to deliver Speed Posts and parcels. If you can, put a postbox outside your house so they can drop mail there without ringing your bell, as it takes time.

Step 2 - If not resolved, file a complaint regarding non-delivery of ordinary articles to the SSPO of your postal division. This can be done on CPGRAMS (pgportal[dot]gov[dot]in). 99% of the time, this should fix your situation. Most people start receiving mail after this complaint. This essentially just informs the system that you exist, and you value your ordinary mail, since almost no one else does.

Step 3 - If still not resolved, send a hand written letter to the Chief Postmaster General of your circle, and the closest Superintendent of RMS.

Step 4 - Give up, and pray that sorters at the other end (the sender end) made a mistake. And hope that mail from someone else, sending from a different city or state, will arrive fine. For example, I receive(Delhi) international mail within 10 days, mail from Chennai, Bangalore, Goa in 5-10 days, but I have never received anything from Bihar. Mail from Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh took 3 months.

Timelines to keep in mind -

International - 3 weeks to forever. 3 weeks for Delhi/Mumbai, and more for other cities. If you're in a remote city, it can take months. I recommend waiting for 10 weeks before losing hope. International mail is much much much more reliable than domestic mail.

Domestic - 5 days to forever. If both sender and receiver postal circles are good, you will receive most mail within 7 to 14 days, anywhere in India. As I said, i received multiple articles in 5-7 days from Tripura, Chennai, Goa etc. Otherwise, it may take forever. I recommend waiting for a month before losing hope.

Any questions please ask in comments!

[thank you] mail on the first of the month :)

u/mouserat - 41c must suck! we've also dealt through borderline 50c temps this year. Suing for a 1star review is insane. I hate how review oriented the world has become. Here, some people won't bill your service unless you've already 5 star rated their store. Annoying to say the least. Reviews come from within! Not by force.

u/craftymonmon - mexican cuisine is fun. i also like sushi, but i just recovered from a food poisoning event (non-sushi tho), so I'd probably steer clear of raw fish for a while :D

both of them came yesterday :)

Pepper in a Can challenge update (22/7)

Location: South Delhi/Indoors

seeds in pink can sown in April, white can in May.

Both are 7 pot primo plants!

I had 5-6 other varities at home, but broad mites and the delhi summer ruined them all ;( some are still alive, just starting to come back alive. these are indoor plants, so no pests and not a lot of warmth.

How to improve VARC?

Profile - (atrocious) 9/7 (78.2)/6 (65%+)
GEM, maybe 9/7/7 by graduation next year but attempting cat this year too

IIM BLACKI is out of reach, not even hoping. FMS/MDI Gurgaon maybe in reach so i need advice.

I attempted previous year around 10 papers, 2023-2025, im getting
30-35ish marks on VARC, 35-40ish marks on LRDI and 45+ everytime on QA. Can push to 50+ in QA if i revise geometry, i have not started serious prep yet.

So QA is safe for me, i need advice to prep for VARC. That level of english and comprehension is beyond me it seems and with ADHD i am having a hard time grasping it. Any advice?

And at the bare minimum, say 30 VARC, 30 LRDI, 40 QA, what percentile could I get? And if any options around 97-98ile for me. 100/198 seems like a bad score i think

I made a spreadsheet tracker for your ordinary mail!

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1oPaCtQSVrNApkPPrCEfqIvWFQNx-zHgL3PYs80DyAAo/edit?usp=sharing

How to use?

  1. Click on File -> Make a copy to make a copy for yourself.

Add pincodes and countries as required. Date of Posting & Date of Delivery. Select Local or Not.

For international receiving, I get rough date of posting from their cancellation.

It calculates days between current date(or delivery date) & day of posting and automatically attaches a status (In Transit, Delayed, Probably Lost, LOST).

Note that Lost does not mean it is actually lost, i just consider a mail lost when it has been too long, and it is not worth it to wait for it. It may still arrive.

Let me know!

Guide - How to send ordinary mail with India Post?

We send postcards and letter the old school way, stamp it up and send!

The postage rates are here.

Common postage rates -

Domestic

1. Postcard (any type) - Rs. 0.5 (50 paise)
Yellow postcards are available prepaid with 50paise at any post office. If you're sending custom, private postcards, affix 50 paise.

2. Inland letter cards - Rs. 2.5 (available pre-paid at any post office)
You can make custom inland letter cards too, just affix Rs. 2.5.

3. Letters - Rs. 5 for the first 20 grams.

Pre-paid Rs. 5 envelopes are available at post offices. You can send with custom envelopes, just have to affix the appropriate postage as per the link above.

International

1. Postcard
Rs. 10 for Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan and Bhutan (Mail to Pakistan suspended)
Rs. 15 for any other country.

2. Aerogramme - Rs. 20
These are international letter cards. Not available widely, but you can buy them at some select head offices/GPOs with pre-paid Rs. 8.5 value. You have to affix an extra Rs. 11.5, as the total postage is Rs. 20.
Note: Custom aerogrammes are not allowed as per regulations!

3. International Letters -
Prices for this depend on the continent you're sending to. Refer to the link above.

Some notes -

  1. Refrain from asking the postal staff ordinary mail rates. Many are not up to date with regulations, and will ask you to affix Rs. 100-200 on international postcards.
  2. Prices for domestic postcards have been revised w.e.f. December 2024.
  3. All international mail is AIRMAIL w.e.f. 1 January 2026. The prices above signify air-mail postage.
  4. GST is not applicable on Ordinary Articles, except for Letters weighing more than 10grams. Hence, the postage calculator on indiapost.gov.in, will tell you wrong postage. Personally, i have filed a grievance for them to update it.

How to send?

  1. Once you have affixed the appropriate postage, simply -
  • hand it at the counter saying these will go via ordinary mail. do not argue about postage, just tell them to forward it at your risk if postage is wrong. (they gaslight you to affix higher than required postage)
  • ask them if the letterbox is cleared regularly. if yes, you can put it in the letterbox!
  • lastly, wait and enjoy the process :) domestic mail can be unreliable, but international mail is very reliable. it will take anywhere from 5 days to 60 days on average to reach. depending on if you're from a metro city or not.

Receiving ordinary mail can be weird. Many postmen simply do not make an attempt to delivery ordinary articles if they do not know you personally as they consider unregistered mail junk. I will make a different post on this. Please let me know your doubts in the comments!

Display turns like this when any heavy program/website is opened, both on Windows and Linux. Turning off hardware acceleration stops it. Is this a display cable issue or the display is gone? Otherwise works fine.

Damaged HDFC Platinum Debit card. I'm an Imperia banker, any way to avoid the Rs. 283 reissue fee?

So I have damaged the card. For HNW/Imperia the annaul fee is free but replacement fee is 240+GST (1/5/2026 onwards).

Any way to avoid this? Please let me know. I saw that upgrading the card is free, but platinum is already the highest tier :/

How to upgrade to Wi-Fi 6 router?

We moved to a new home which is bigger than our old, and in certain rooms the network drops. What I end up with is constant connect/disconnect with Jio 5G and WiFi. This is an issue with IP-specific big downloads as the entire download gets trashed. Customer care says no Wi-Fi 6 router exists and just reboots the device everytime we call.

Any advice? Will emailing work?
