Star City is a great show, however...

The real history of the cosmonaut program, star city, GRU, KGB, and the Soviet Union are absolutely fascinating.

Obviously, it's quite bleak as well.

The story of Oleg Penkovsky, a GRU Colonel that sold secrets to the CIA and was caught is fascinating.

There really are so many real life stories that are incredible.

Has anyone researched this time period of the CCCP? (Soyuz Sovetskikh Sotsialisticheskikh Respublik)

Have you ever experienced "l'appel du vide"?

l'appel du vide translates in English to, "Call of the Void".

It's an unexplainable, sudden urge to jump while at extreme heights. This is not out of suicidal ideation or desires, it's just a weird surreal pull towards the openness. I'm not sure how else to explain it but I have experienced it a few times but the time it i felt the strongest urge while visiting the grand canyon.

I just had this sudden pull to jump.

First cataract surgery yesterday

It seems the antibiotic drops are making me very sick.

Worst diarrhea I have ever had...

As everyone here, I'm sure knows, you have to take 4 drops a day for several weeks.

There is no way I will survive that.

I'm dehydrated and can't really eat much other than a few bites.

Has anyone ever exerienced this?

The view from halfway down...

"Before I leaped I should’ve seen

The view from halfway down"...

I'm ever so close to the end, too soon, I'll be underground, I regret the view from half way down.

My middle daughter got engaged today...

She is going to be 23 in a month and 24 when they marry.

He is a good guy and I have no reason to complain.

I have my regrets but I raised my children well and she is a good kid.

I have such mixed feelings right now, I love her more than anything in the world and would absolutely destroy him if he hurts her...

He really seems like a good kid, he is 25, has a degree in tech from a good university and a decent job. His parents are very well off and much older than I am.

She will be taken care of ...

Im just full of emotions but I think it's more about the loss of my marriage to her mother than anything with her.

I just want all of my kids to be happy in life.

To have what I never could obtain. I would give anything, my life included for them to all be happy.

I'm just shy of 50 and will likely have grandkids in the next few years if I make it that long.

Sorry, I just needed to get this all out.

PCP vs PM?

I have been reading hear for a while and it seems most people are using a pain management Dr for meds.

My local PM doesn't do meds, only injections.

My PCP is the one that I receive pain meds from.

It's this abnormal? I have been going to him for at least 25 years.

I have to get cataract surgery soon

They asked me if I want to get both of my eyes or just one.

The one eye is really bad from an injury I had as a child but they said I'm really young to Any done little on both. I'll be 49 soon and I right eye is extremely blurry and cloudy.

I have to go back Wednesday to get them measured to see if the surgeon can make the incision or if they have to do it via robot.

I was really confused about the different types of lenses has anyone else had any similar experience?

Has anyone ever created two different TV series from different perspectives

A series where it's shown from the protagonists perspective and the other series from the antagonist perspective.

Since they can do so much in post and editing, they could get away with a lot less editing that two independent series

I'm so angry right now ...

My friend found a baby raccoon on his property the other day.

He realized the mother was killed by a car.

I have some experience with helping rescue animals so he called me.

I recommend we take him to a rehab facility but the facility was not taking anymore animals as they are full.

He wanted to keep her a few days until his wife and kids got home to let them see her.

She was healthy and happy after we got her the right formula and hydrated.

The neighbor stopped over and saw it. Didn't like it so he called the "authorities" and told them he was scratched.

Now the game warden is coming in the morning to put her down and send her head in for rabies testing.

I'm very pissed off right now... I grew up and live in a rural area, I know a lot about animals and helping to rehab them. I have put down rabid animals, I know how it works and there is nothing wrong with this baby.

Insomnia since I was a little kid... It's gotten worse

I'm almost 50 and have had insomnia as long as I can remember.

I would lie awake as a kid until 1-3 am in the morning.

My life has become extremely stressful over the last few years. The insomnia has gotten pretty bad, I'll often not sleep go a day or two and then sleep 6-8 hours.

Other weeks, I'll avg 4 hours a night if I'm lucky.

Last summer it got so bad that after 3 days of not sleeping and averaging 2-3 hours for the previous two months I almost went to the hospital but finally fell asleep.

I have a script for very low dose .5 mg xanex. I try to avoid using too much as I know it been be really bad if you the up with withdrawals. I have tried plenty of other natural things, melotonin, magnesium, chamomile tea, etc....

I also have a script for Ambien but that only works half to a third of the time, if I'm lucky.

I don't drink often I have tried medical marijuana but that doesn't help.

I have been extremely fortunate with my job that I can get away with no to little sleep and when sleeping during the day when I'm able.

Has anyone had any success with any other types of meds?

Movies set in the 60's-90's

They can be from that era from I really enjoy modern movies set in the era of the 1960's through really the early 2000's.

Pre everyone having camera phones, Google, gps, AI, etc...

I have been in tech for 30 years and I'm burning out fast in this modern technology age. Maybe it happens to everyone but I have recently watched a few movies from the 90's and forgot how good they are.

I'm currently watching "Dead Man's Wire"it's a brand new movie on Netflix, but it's set in the late 70's.

Does anyone the feel this way?

What do you recommend?

Edit: I'm adding this edit to make it more detailed what I'm looking for. I have seen all the major Blockbusters and the classics. I'm looking for one of two things...

  1. Modernish movies set during any era prior to 2005 as long as they have that real feel of the era.
  2. Movies from those eras that I may have missed or forgotten about, The hidden gems so to speak. Last night I watched suicide Kings, totally forgot about that movie. It's not excellent but it's a good late '90s movie. Examples: deep cover, pleasantville, things to do in Denver when you're dead, reality bites. 80's to live and die in LA, blue collar, The long good Friday, Prince of the City... Etc...

I think I'm actually going through midlife crisis.

Required to turn over my firearm

I just watched the video of Jason arrington being shot on a police stop with his own firearm.

I had a similar situation to this happen to me twice. Other than the getting shot part.

My state Police and most local already know if you have a CCW, I hand it over with my licence.

Two years ago when pulled over the officer asked me to hand him my pistol.

I politely refused to touch my gun during a stop and for his safety and mine it would be best if he removed it.

He seemed rather shocked that I was not willing to hand him my gun.

He even tried to explain to me how I could hand it to him with two fingers safely. I refused.

I complied with his other orderes, got out of the car put my hands on the roof, he removed my firearm,

Took it back to his car to check the serial number.

That video of Arrington was crazy... Maybe I have been lucky.

How many of us on here would an extra $100 really make much difference for us this week?

$100 would make the difference between eating this weekend or not....

I can't be the only one right?

How many of us are struggling to this level?

I am not asking for money from anyone so please don't take it that way or try to give me any. I refuse to beg or gravel for things from people.

I'm just wondering how many others are in the spot?

Book on Benedict Arnold... Looking for a recommendation

I'm looking for a solid historically accurate book on the life of Benedict Arnold.

I have dyslexia, so I'm looking for something with an option on audible.

Here is one that seems to have solid reviews.

Has anyone read this? Or any others they can recommend?

Valiant Ambition: George Washington, Benedict Arnold, and the Fate of the American Revolution

Cataract in dominant eye...

Has anyone else dealt with this?

I had an eye injury at 10.

The Drs told me that I would likely have a detached retina by 40.

No detached retina but it's caused a cataract that has left me with an extremely blurry dominate eye.

It's escalated rather quickly over about a year and half.

I can no longer shoot with glass, pistols I have to keep both eyes open, while that is ideal for self defense and any close the shooting anyways, it's very much limited my ability to shoot rifles at any distance past 25 yards.

I'm not exactly young anymore and have avoided the range over the past few years.

Has anyone anyone had to learn to shoot with off with their non dominant eye?

I'm concerned I won't be able to be competent. Anyone had a lens replacement? That's my only real option at this point, I suppose.

I don't shoot competitively It's really just for sport and self-defense.
