Financial Aid question

Hello,

i have some questions about this, I'm a domestic student with only 7k yearly income, I live with my family so they support me financially, I applied for all Financial Aid, and Students rewards (only received the Tuition fees, rest were denied), Working in Campus was approved but all works I applied for in Newnham and other campus went away, no reply back for work even, and even after putting all of my income information and personal ones, I've got nothing, I did all of this list year around November and only got the Winter fees, I'm now confused, since OSAP has changed and I'll probably need to pay some of my college fees, why these awards or support is there, if isn't even working for a 7k income, should I have 0 income to get one?

And all of ELI/AU/Y2P (which I don't know what they are) and funded special bursary shows I'm not eligible to even apply for.

what should I do regarding this matter, this year income will probably be dropping to 5 or 4k probably, my income is really low because I can't find any jobs for 4 years.

Any suggestions?

Everytime I see this I get goosebumps

I've been an Android user since my very first phone and I've always preferred it because it is open, now all I see when I check this website is all the memories I had with them, all custom ROMs I tried, patched apps, games, and more hacks I used to play around with my phone, I'm still really slow on degoogle as I'm not having a lot of free time to do it, and a lot are required for my school and work, but if for anything, I hope Linux stays out forever 🐧

How long it should last in general?

I've been a beginner for one year now, I use a stainless steel gourd because my first gourd didn't get cured well so I got a stainless steel one, I usually can drink about 500ml of Pipore, Cruz de Malta or Rosamonte, lasting about a max of 2 hours (if I drink slowly), after that amount it loses flavor, color of water isn't even greenish anymore, the mountain is still there but it is like already absorbed? by every refill but the shape stays until I just do the last refill over the whole shape, I've seen a lot of people making it last a day or more, but I'm not sure if that's related to the gourd stype or yerba type, any advice?

DeGithub or DeInterneting?

I was looking for a while to see what to do but I'm not able to get answers looking online.

a lot of patched stuff or anything open-source or related to degoogling or privacy, doesn't last long there before GitHub bans the whole account of the developers, or the website is down, maybe later a lot of stuff will keep getting banned with time, I think my first step should be self hosted and ask if people are thinking of a type of "self hosting network", I'm not sure of the right term, but I mean can self hosted stuff be shared as a type of internet layer for people like us??

For example, X number of people selfhosting and so they make a self hosting access for stuff that will be banned and all other stuff that needs our private papers, faces, or anything related to that.

Sorry it is hard to explain, But basically a way to keep privacy connected, encrypted, and hard to be taken down unless all the internet is down, just like how Torrents works if I'm correct?

How to understand Degoogling in short

Sorry for my language as I don't speak English but I want to summarize it in a few points for new people.

  1. Open your Google account, Gmail and password manager, check the service you need or not anymore, I had 180 Passwords saved, now I have 78 and still going, degoogling isn't only on Google, I left (Airbnb, McDonald's, Walmart, Starbucks, Bookings, Shopping apps, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter) and even Windows to Linux. Apps don't make sense to me anymore, eg.. anytime I open Walmart it needs an update almost weekly to only open so why bother? and the rest goes for all apps because then I end up on the Play store updating eating more storage and usage.

  2. See alternative close to Chrome before you leave completely, a lot of people are relying on Chrome for the password manager or plugins and how it can put all your login in info in one click or blockads, you can try Brave for example it is really similar then slowly go to Firefox because not everyone can go fast and it is a long journey, check DNS (I use quad9) and you will see even some website won't open because they need all you info.

  3. Look at your phone apps and what you don't use and delete them with their accounts unless you might think you need them.

  4. Try Startpage (or anything else) engine and Google engine results and compare to see brain rotten is like, on Startpage you need to look around to see the right results while Google will summarize all websites in an AI with no accurate information, try to disable your phone SENSORS and MICROPHONES (done through dev options with NO PERMISSIONS on each apps) to see the difference in Ads or algorithms even, you will see a random algorithm of results, I have it all turned off unless I need to call or answer call, even my camera is off too.

  5. I won't make this too long, in short we are trying to not let them collect your PRIVACY, DATA and INFO, why use apps or keep them (unless you really need to), even small chains are owned by something bigger, and the internet is already dead a long time ago, all we use the internet for is AI results and Ads, no forms, no communities (even Reddit is owned and data collected), just a place of too much information for the brain to even absorb and a lot of them are false, try a week with less SOT or no social media and see how much your brain will be clear, if you can't then you either need to bend and stay with them or start your journey.

Thank you for reading! Hope it was at least helpful.

The way of manipulation to get customers back

Since I started to get off all the services I don't use, I get new ways of his companies trying to manipulate customers, I don't drink any coffee since I don't like it, so I decided to delete Starbucks and I got 2 emails that feels so crazy

Are people waking up now?

I'm not sure if this is okay to be posted here.

Recently I've seen a lot of YouTubers, Podcast people, being uploaded this week so not old clips or new YouTubers, more talking about privacy, security and enshittification and more into that, a lot of starts by leaving Windows to Linux for example and it goes on, I've been tech savvy for a long time and my custom ROMs started when CyanogenMod Roms where at their peak almost a decade ago, but i was more like caring about my privacy years ago, but anyways are people waking up? or is it a new plan by people of big giants trying to give us now while they are doing something behind the shadows, I mean internet and privacy are dead already i guess but do they have even more to do now? It feels like living in the allegory of the cave ?

Don't know if I'll be alive still...

As you can see, done a course for my self studying 2 years ago I was finished then while I'm in the process of degoogling I see this...

As everytime I'm done with a service I request deleting.

Don't know if I'll be alive until 2081...

When I close an app it opens back where it was!! Why does this keep happening?

Everytime I open then close the app, when I reopen it is still the same like if on Reddit now, when I reopen it, the page will be this post, if I open chrome and reopen it will be the same even if I'm in the settings section of chrome for example but just the page itself, it is like the app disappeared but still running?

It is taking me insane

Edit: phone is S23 and updated to One Ui 8, it started happened on the last security patch and updating to 8.5 i think i wont do it, they already ruined the from UI One 7, as the whole phone is lagging with stupid AI stuff I don't need and making it more battery hungry, soon to leave Samsung after this.

Newbie questions

Sorry for my dumb questions and bad English hope this is the right place to post to understand my concerns.

I'm a new college student in computer programming but my degree is a just a 2 years studying for introducing courses, I've been studying all types of "Introduction to C++" "Introduction to computers" and those types of courses including the one for web development which caught my attention so much more than the rest and I feel it suits me more especially there is a back/front end and full stack which the person will do while studying, while other courses didn't get my attention, anyways, I've been thinking to study web development full stack by myself online or using books, and do some types of projects to self learn more because school barely cover a little, while looking around I always see that AI will take over this field of IT, and people talking about AI coding apps like "Cursor" which will make all of this really helpless, everytime I check I get different opinions and no real answers, I try to study online on YouTube or Udemy and each creator covers a different types with no clear path of this field, I just want to know if there is a specific way, like a source or a books or anything up-to-date about this field and how I can do it, so I thought this is the only place where I can ask people about it. Sorry for the long post and apologize my English.

Officially closing a heavy chapter of my life today.

Hey eveyone, I hope this subreddit is the right one for this post, I’m feeling incredibly grateful today. My journey working with my therapist for about 3 years is over today, getting through a really tough period of depression is officially over, and I'm stepping into a much brighter headspace. At our final wrap-up yesterday, they gave me a farewell message in a paper saying : "Remember, seeking help is a sign of strength, and you are not alone in your journey. Please prioritize your well-being and utilize these resources if needed. We have now reached the end of our work together. We wish you continued success."

It included my name, some confidential information and reducing plan of my anti-depressants, but I hope i rephrased it correctly, but that closing paper felt like a graduation paper for me.

Now, It feels amazing to look back and see how far I’ve come. Just wanted to share this life update with a community. Here is to a fresh start!

Recent Grad Feeling Lost: Are entry-level IT certs worth it right now, or should I pivot??

Hello everyone,

I am about to graduate with a 2-year college diploma in Computer Programming. I chose this field after trying a few different paths, and it’s the first one that really clicked for me.

During my program, I realized a few specific things about my preferences:

  • What I hated: I absolutely disliked all types of C,C#,C++ courses.
  • What I loved: Stack web development (specifically frontend work with JavaScript) caught my attention immediately, felt intuitive, and actually made me happy to work on, (i didn't do a lot but a simple demo website but it was really like an achievement).
  • Maybe it is even more harder but I still need to know if this field is at least for me.

My original goal was to break into the IT/software industry to secure a stable, comfortable desk job (or remote work) where I don't have to stand all day, and (to be honest it was a documentary of Google startup and how much employees can make now and how much benefits they will have so I picked IT), as well as me sitting behind my laptop since I was a kid, missing around with it, However, I am currently trapped in a stressful loop and could really use some realistic advice on a few things:

1. The Job Hunt & Helpdesk vs. Dev

I’ve been applying to entry-level IT Helpdesk roles to get my foot in the door but haven't had any luck. Given that I vastly prefer JavaScript/Web Design over traditional backend programming (like C++), should I even be targeting IT Helpdesk, or should I strictly focus on building a frontend portfolio?

2. Are Certifications Actually Worth It Right Now?

I’ve looked into the standard roadmaps—everything from CompTIA (A+, Network+, Security+) to Cisco (CCNA, CCST) so on, as well as Google/IBM certificates on Coursera.

Job postings constantly list them, but a lot of people on Reddit say certs are useless without experience. If I want to upgrade my skills to get an entry-level/junior role, which certs (if any) actually carry weight today? Or are online courses/projects a better use of my time?

3. The "AI Doom" Anxiety

I keep seeing news and being told by peers to quit the field because "AI is taking all the entry-level coding jobs." Is this just overblown media hype, or is the market genuinely fundamentally broken for new grads right now?

I’m feeling pretty overwhelmed and stuck. Any guidance on where to focus my energy next to break out of this entry-level loop would be massively appreciated. Thanks!
