Feedback on my kid-friendly UK itinerary

Hello we are travelling with our 6.5 yrs old kid to London this week for 7-8 days. We plan to stay around St James street. Following is what we have decided to do (tentatively) -

  1. Bus to oxford street
  2. london zoo - regent’s park - camden market
  3. lunch in covent garden plaza - hamley store
  4. london transport musuem
  5. tower of london - beefeater tour
  6. borough market - strawberry chocolate and thanes river cruise speed boat ride
  7. kensington palace - kensington garden
  8. diana playground memorial (
  9. hyde park

Questions -

  1. I know I haven’t locked in a theme park. Any recos?

  2. Any more places to add/remove from the itinerary?

  3. Any food recos? Heard a lot of good bakeries are in London and we are visiting from the UAE.

  4. Please could you throw some light on the weather in London. I saw 30 degrees but feels pleasant.

  5. Any other tips are most welcome.

Thank you.

Teaching demo done - now what?

My teaching demo is done. Got a feedback from one panelist that maybe the students will already have left mentally middle of the class. Another panelist said that he liked how I connected the principles to this topic.
So what do you think? Will I get the offer or not? Its been 5 days.

New school or current school?

I’m really struggling with a school decision for my daughter who is almost 7.

She is currently in her school where she has been for the last three years. She has almost every single night told us how she didnt want to go to school. We continued in the second year as things improved and she was set but again third year wasn’t great. Academically she is doing fine, and recently her drop-offs and daily routine have actually improved (last 4 weeks to be precise). She does have friends there, but socially there have been ongoing challenges. From my observation (and some teacher feedback), the class dynamics are a bit fixed, with certain groups and some peer conflicts/exclusion that have been affecting her emotionally at times. She is quite sensitive socially and takes friendship issues very deeply. She has singled out and also instances of kicking and pushing happened which when she told us we told the teacher about and it was addressed.

We recently got an offer from another very established, highly reputed school in our area. We visited it, met the teachers, and it seems very structured and strong academically. It also has good long-term prospects for secondary school admissions, which is a factor for us. However, it would mean a complete reset for her socially—new classmates, new environment, and starting from scratch again.

We have already told her about the change, and she had a very emotional reaction. She cried, said she doesn’t want to leave her current friends, and also swung between bargaining and curiosity about the new school. Now she is calmer but still resistant at times.

We are now stuck between:

keeping her in a familiar environment where she has friends but some social difficulties, vs

moving her to a very strong new school where she will have a fresh start but go through a big emotional transition.

I’m really unsure what the right decision is for a child of this age, especially considering her sensitivity to friendships and change.

Thank you for reading such a long post.

Feedback on schools

Feedback Requested

Hello, my kid recently got an offer from DESS OM for Y3. I would love to get your honest feedback (good/bad). How is the level of teaching, infrastructure, bullying, EAPs? We plan to transfer his from another outstanding rated school in Dubai. His current school is massive, collabs with big names etc.

But we are thinking of secondary school options and hence planning to move schools. TIA.

Teaching demo

Have an upcoming teaching demo. 15 mins demo followed by 15 mins QnA. Have prepared the ppt but not sure whether to consider the panel as participants or as themselves (faculty)? Its online and I would take the same course quite differently offline. Should I email the assumptions like I’m assuming that I’m teaching an undergrad class or something like that?

What are they generally looking at? 15 mins is quite less for a quants teaching presentation. My interview is already one. TIA.

Why does reddit filter block a post of mine where I am asking feedback for two schools? Is it not allowed?

I tried getting an honest feedback on two schools that we are considering for our kid. But the post was removed by reddit filters. Anyone has any idea why? Thanks.

Long hair get wet everytime my kid goes for a swim

Hello, looking for any hack that keeps the hair dry. My kid’s hair is back length and we have tried a lot of different swimming caps. Still hair do get wet. I am thinking of putting a showe cap first and then the cap. Does that work? Or maybe any other trick? Thank you.

Regarding waiting list in DESS

My kid’s application is approved and on waiting for Y3 for 2026. I would appreciate any input on how quick or slow does it take to convert. Its for DESS Oud Metha. The school did tell us that its fluid given the present scenario. What to make of it. Also, does the waiting list move during summer vacation like does school communicate to parents during summer break too. TIA.

Introducing terms like divorce

Hi when do you explain your kids what divorce mean? My 6.5 yrs olf read a comic where the girl is sad because her parents can’t be together as in divorced and its the girl’s bday. What is the appropriate age for kids to know this? My daughter keeps on asking to reread that book.
