Is it over?

Hi,

I’m 16. I wrote a check from my CU’s money market to Capital One but the check bounced because the money was in the wrong account. Capital One shows the money and check is cleared and the money is available to be used but I was told NOT to touch that money. I rewrote a brand new check, put the correct amount of money and took the picture of the check again.

Are they going to report my ChexSystems? This was my first honest mistake.

0.35% APY good for a 16 year old?

I know I know. Get a HYSA etc. I’m 16 with a Capital One account but they don’t allow external transfers. I have a Money Market with my CU and checking. It’s a tiered savings account. No bank will offer a minor a HYSA besides Capital One. I looked everywhere.

https://imgur.com/a/7bKqZpR

These are the rates. I just got word I got my first job and I was gonna use Capital One but I was told I don’t get early pay etc and I have school fees that charge fees for credit card or ACH so cash or checks but I like a check since there is a record.

Is it also okay to avoid paying the cost of a checking account check instead by transferring money to the money market since I get free checks?

I just like in branch access because ATMs cannot take out a lot

2.50% APY for a teen

I have a HYSA (360 Performance Savings) with my mom and a MONEY Teen checking. I’m switching from my local B&M CU. Both accounts with C1 don’t allow me to transfer funds using my login so I use my mom’s login (with permission) to transfer externally. I feel like Capital One might say something even if customer service says I’m okay. (I use her login to also look at her Savor that I’m AU on), she’s not tech savvy so asking her to transfer for me is also hard. I opened a Kids Savings account and with my own login I can transfer between the KSA and the Money account now.

Is 2.50% APY good even though I was getting 3.10% APY but taking a risk? I’d like to play by the books just in case. To be safe than sorry. I have a credit card my dad opened just for me to use and pay since I have a job so switching routing and account numbers won’t be a pain.

Does U.S. Bank build credit for underaged authorized users?

Hi,

My mom and dad both have U.S. Bank cards. One is Cash+ and one is a Smartly (used to be Cash+)

U.S. Bank has my social and when we got the cards a year ago, I was told being added builds my credit. (I’m 16).

Now, I’ve been told my multiple people from customer service that either I don’t, I do, or it reports only account age as authorized users do not have any financial liability so therefore they cannot report payment history or credit worthiness.

People that have U.S. Bank credit cards with AUs (or U.S. Bank employees), can you guys help me out so if not I can just shop for another card to be added as an AU? (I have Discover but want a VISA or Mastercard for more acceptance at merchants).

UPDATE: U.S. Bank lady was fantastic and talked to back office, back office confirmed I do build credit. Thanks everyone for their help.

should i use a debit card at 16 even though i have a auth user credit card and utilization gets reported onto my parents credit

i have about maybe 10-12 ccs with my mom. I'm getting a job soon but before when I had no stable income, I only spend $1-$25 on myself once in a while. I feel like I'm leaving money on the table when I buy something with debit and I was told debit cards have less security with credit cards but I've always disputed things with debit cards and they've worked really well

I know about the 2 business day reporting thing if fraud happens and liability is $50 but my credit union and VISA have a zero-liability policy and I have card alerts every time.

My mom is using a 2% USB Smartly card to pay for my braces that's a monthly bill of $150/mo. and USB reports my credit every month as they have my social, Discover It Miles also does too and they report my credit, the rest don't or say they report but don't build credit.

I have this secured card called Step (not sponsored), and it acts as a debit but it is a real secured card. They have Step Black, $4.99/mo, 3% on savings with FDIC up to $1m in insurance, 1% cashback on all purchases. It's something but I feel like it wouldn't affect my mom's credit and I'm worried of using it JUST because it affects my mom's credit, it's worrying me a ton.

I can also just use Step for free without the subscription, but I earn no rewards but security as it is a secured card and I have full authorization to do whatever I want to the card, reporting fraud etc is not a pain in the ass unlike the banks where I have to call and sometimes the card numbers are the exact same so they have to get my mom on the phone and she works at the hospital during night shift so phone support is hard to get with her.

^ W/o the subscription, if i'm trying to add money less than $20, I get charged a fee and they also allow transfers with Apple Pay which is awesome if I'm trying to get money from my checking to the card instantly but with paychecks I'll be getting, I will add more than $20 if I use them. They only report up to 2 years of credit history (dk if that's the law or what, but if you have 4 years with them, they report only 2... but I just opened the account 9 months ago so right on time.)

What should I use? I feel like my purchases make cash back less worth but I have a Apple Card for subscriptions and I get $1.20 in my checking for doing absolutely nothing but using the card. (cents being transferred in the checking).

Please bear with me if you have any questions, I'm still learning and sorry for the extremely long post, I try to be informational as much as possible so people can get where I'm at.

Have a good day! <3

Use debit even though I have credit?

Hi,

I’m 16M. I have a buncha CCs I’m an AU on with my mom and one with my Dad that I never use. This is a long post so bear with me, please.

I have a AMEX BCE, USB Smartly and a C1 Savor that I use. My mom owns these and I most of the time pay or she covers me sometimes. I redeem the points or cashback for a statement credit. I just hold money in my checking (any deposits get held) I pay, then transfer to savings and my brokerage for investments.

My mom lets me use the points however whatever I want to do with em’ and vise versa.

I just think it’s nice that I don’t need to stress about waiting all the money in there until the statement comes (usually I use only one card and spend only $1-$20. My mom always uses the Smartly card that earns a flat 2% on my monthly braces payment plan so she can earn points off of my braces plan.

I just feel like I’m adding unnecessary debt to her imo. I can use Apple Pay since it masks your debit card information from POS systems and prevents fraud. My local CU is good at fraud prevention and detection according to reviews and my personal experience with customer service. I also like how I can request for an emergency card at a branch if fraud does happen unlike my credit cards which take 1-10 days to arrive even through free expedite shipping. I’m also looking for a job if that changes anything so my spending could be higher since I only buy with money I get once in a while (parents pay me, birthday money, gift money etc)

I have this app called Step, they report credit but it acts like a debit card. If I pay $5.99/mo, they have Step Black which comes with benefits like 3% on a savings with FDIC up to $1m, 1% cashback on all purchases and it’s a secured card so there is no debt since it auto pays. Should I use these guys then but not pay the Step Black subscription for now until I get my job? (without subscription it’s a secured card still but no cashback)

Should I just use a debit card even though I lose access to credit card points?

Financial Center for ID

Hi,

I’m 16 and want a BofA account. They said I need to come in with 2 forms of ID at a financial center. Problem is.. I don’t live near one. They’re not in my city at all. There is one almost built 3 minutes from where I live but now I have till 6/7/2026 to verify my ID.

Did BofA already do something with my SSN or ChexSystem? Is it safe to just withdraw the application and do it later when the branch is officially open?

Can I call them tomorrow and see if they can verify me without a financial center?

I recently removed my studs (forgot what material) and got new 14K white gold hoops.

Oct 17, 2025 I got lobe piercings.

One is hugging my left lobe and one is dangling a bit low. Is that concerning is it uneven? I also placed pics of my studs also as a reference.

Hi. I’m 16.

I wanna maybe put money in and build wealth or whatever. I don’t have an end time or end goal, can I buy VOO (I was told not to buy mutual funds in a taxable brokerage like FXAIX) and just keep putting money in and taking out the money when I need it? (i.e. wanting a new thing, new house, new car or when I need the cash for something?)

I have a Roth. But I have little earned income here and there so funding the Roth is a slow snail process and I really wanna get into the market because I have extra cash and my plan is splitting 50/50, putting half into savings and half into investing and growing it.

Best timeline I could give is like… maybe in 10 years I might come back and be like “Should I keep this stock or sell it?”

Hi, 16M.

I had studs, silver ones forgot which ones with diamonds in em’. I had them since 10/17/2025 and I switched to small hoops today, 14K white gold. Are they uneven? I’m going to include the stud pics too.
