Odd server experience, specialty dining on the Joy

We're well seasoned cruisers and are very familiar with NCL. We're currently on the Joy Miami to Seattle and have been having a fantastic time with one little thing that is sticking out to me and wanted some outside perspective.

We enjoyed some specialty dining the other night and while the check was zero'd out, I added additional gratuity of what would have been 50% of the total check. Signed. Gave to the server. All is normal.

Server comes back a few minutes later to thank us for tipping on top of things but said while he appreciates it it doesn't go to him, it goes to everyone and goes on to say he's going to cancel it out if I just sign, but that he's there every night if I want to come back by with cash. I don't recall EVER having a waiter basically come out amd ask for cash directly to them.

He's approached me twice now at the breakfast buffet to basically see if I have anything for him, like a little shakedown.

Anyone experience anything like this and how was it handled?

I have no issue in tipping folks out at all, but this guy has just rubbed us the wrong way with it and found it very unprofessional.
