I try not to contextualize the lyrics all the time as I’ll have an inner debate with myself.

how do you interpret in eulogies “not all martyr see divinity, but at least you tried.”

My take is simply martyrs’s try going against the grain for a cause that they believe ultimately to be shunned or shut down, unable to spread their beliefs, and in this case results in death.

I stand with Occam’s razor, but please enlighten on your view.
