Update on my previous post titled… “I’m having a hard time choosing a name for this little corgi. Pop culture or food names preferred”

I absolutely loved all the suggestions, but we settled on Floki, after he ate my (clicker) hoop nose ring right off my face! 😱

So we felt the puppy earned his Viking name by pillaging and hiding valuables... inside his stomach. 🪎 😂

Floki has been seen by emergency vet, his regular vet, had x rays several times and has finally been given the all clear! 🩻

🚨Very important PSA to puppy parents:

Make sure your jewelry can't be pulled off! I thought it happening with earrings but never my nose ring! ⚠️

When it comes to things like jewelry inducing vomiting usually fails and did with Floki. Even when it does work it's dangerous because it can cause damage on the way up. 🤮

Puppies this small are often not candidates for retrieval via endoscopy because their esophagus is too small. This often means they will need a highly dangerous and invasive surgery where your pup is cut from breast bone to pelvis and a surgeon has to handle their delicate paper thin organs.😧

We got incredibly lucky that he passed it without issue particularly because my hoop didn’t have a sharp end and partially due to the help of the emergency vet. However, even with the best possible outcome it was dangerous, terrifying and very expensive! 💸

Be smarter than me!! 🙏🧠

I’m having a hard time choosing a name for this little corgi. Pop culture or food names preferred

Hello!

We just got this little Corgi yesterday. I don’t want his name to be a super common. I also like names that have lots of opportunities for nick names. Harrison and Olly are a no go, as they conflict with our name and other pets names.

I like a couple of categories of dog names for him.

• Pop culture names, (either fictional characters or real people)
• Food names
• old fashioned sounding names, like Murphy.
• A select few Viking and mythological names

Here is our list so far….

Cinnamon Toast ( alternatively Captain Toast)

Toasted Marshmallow with nicknames of Marshall/ Marsh/ Toasty and a slew of other things lol

Waffles with a nickname of Wally

Freddy Mercury with nicknames, Mercury or Merc.

Danny DeVito and calling him DeVito.

Ragnar

I love Floki because I love that Character on Vikings, but I can’t think of a lot of nicknames for it.

Frodo

Any other ideas or votes for any of the names we have on the list?

And update: I got the Oops Corgi from my last post. Any ideas for names?

****TLDR I got the opps puppy from my previous post! He’s adorable. He is on insurance and will get a full comprehensive work up asap. Does anyone have name suggestions for this adorable sweetheart?

Update on my previous post debating on whether or not to get a Corgi puppy from a friend of a friend that had an oops litter.

We picked him up today! I already enrolled him in pet insurance. I had a vet appt for Monday to get the works, but they suggested I wait the 14 days for my insurance to go into effect before they give him a full comprehensive exam, X-rays and testing. So we are just going for shots and fecal exam Monday.

He is the sweetest boy. He definitely has a voice and uses it.😂 Right now my 2 year old dog hates him, but we are working on it. He has no signs of illness I can see so far except for a little tear staining. He seems like a very happy energetic pup!

Anyone have any name suggestions?

** sorry it won’t let me edit my typo in the title so I’ll just sound dumb forever.

We brought home a 9 week old puppy today and my 2 year old dog hates him! What can I do to help them both acclimate?

Hello. I am in desperate need of advice.

We just brought home a 9 week old puppy today. I knew it would take time for my 2 year old to adjust, but I didn’t expect this.

A little back story… a little over a month ago our 13 year old dog passed away who my 2 year old was deeply bonded to. He was sad for a while but seemed to turn a corner and be doing good. So we thought now would be a good time to get a puppy while he’s still young and wants to play.

However, he hates the puppy. We introduced them on neutral ground. It seemed ok. I took my existing dog for a run and long walk after the introduction. Then brought him inside with the puppy and continued to introduce.

I’ve never seen a dog act like this to such a young puppy. He acts like he doesn’t even know that he’s a dog. He nipped at him, lunged at him, growls and panic barks at him even if he’s sleeping in a play pen.

We have a small house so we can’t really keep them in separate rooms all the time until he gets used to him. My older dog is crate trained. We have a crate for the puppy and two play pens.

Today i have my husband helping. So I’m catering to my 2 year old dog and he’s keeping the puppy busy, because me touching, picking up or taking to the puppy seems to upset my 2 year old even more. Which makes sense because he’s very bonded to me.

He loved my dog that passed aways so much. I wanted so badly for him to have another friend. It broke my heart to watch him grieve. Now I feel like I’ve made a terrible mistake and upended his world again.

What can I do to make this easier for both of them?

2year old is 75% chihuahua 25% mini pin. Puppy is supposed to be full blood Pembroke Corgi, if that matters.

Is getting a Corgi from an Opps litter a horrible idea?

A friend of a friend has a male corgi puppy from and opps litter that is looking for a home. He’s too cute for me to think straight so I need the good corgi owners of Reddit to knock sense into me if need be.

I’ve never had a corgi but I know they can be prone to back and hip problems. I love the puppy but I’m torn. Is it a horrible idea to get a corgi that wasn’t properly bred with genetics in mind?

We will of course get pet insurance. I’m just worried that he will be plagued with health problems his whole life.

***If no one knows what I mean by an oops litter… This person has a female and male corgi that they waited too long to get fixed. She ended up getting pregnant. They fixed the momma and papa now.

****( TLDR: if you don’t know Sprite there’s a saga of posts on my profile. 😂

Sprite is back and I believe she molted. I am now offering her a back up enclosure, where she gets fed, has access to water, and time to rest. I will leave the enclosure in a protected spot on my porch and open the it allowing her to come and go.

* the video is a mash up of her playing her favorite game of jump to the camera and bounce back to the hand. As well as her eating a fruit fly dinner in my back up enclosure. ) *****

Hello! 👋

To everyone who has followed little Sprites memoirs…

I am so sorry I haven’t posted in so long. I had to put down my 13 year old soul dog, Jax 3 weeks ago and it crushed me. I am just now kinda getting back to myself. On to the update…

Sprite has visited a couple of times since I last posted during the 3 days while my dog, Jax was in the emergency vet. She was a true comfort over those few days, but I didn’t have it in me to film those interactions or post them.

Then for whatever reason she stayed away for about 3 weeks after beginning on the day of Jax’s passing. I have been worried about her and was beginning to think I would never see her again.

Then today I felt something on my hand. At first glance my brain didn’t register her as a jumping spider, so I flung my hand! 😳Then an instant after I realized my mistake. Luckily she was attached to her drag line and hurriedly crawled back to my hand while I profusely apologized.

I believe she molted during her away time, since she looks a bit bigger. I was almost not sure it was her until she began performing her normal antics, but her crawling on my hand without me knowing was the first sign. 😂

For those who have said I should keep her on past posts, I think you’ll be happy to know I decided on a half measure…

Today I offered her my back up enclosure. She jumped right in. I fed her fruit flies, gave her access to water and time to snooze. I will then open up the enclosure and allow her to come and go as she chooses. I’m curious to see what she decides. * note she didn’t look super hungry. If I wasn’t giving her the choice to go, I would have waited to feed her*

You can see her playing one of her favorite games, jumping on the camera then using her drag line to bounce right back to my hand over and over, in the video mash up. 🥹

Sorry this is so ridiculously long. I obviously have a self editing problem. 🙄

This little lady making condos out of my straw makes me think…

Would cutting up straws and attaching them around my porch as hides for the wild jumpers be a good idea?! Also what does everyone think of straw segments as diy hides for our captive babies?

PSA… If you accidentally leave a soda outside overnight, give the straw a check before you toss it!
