What is your sweet treat that is GD friendly that doesn't involve fruit?

I failed my 1 hour glucose test and am taking my 3 hour on Friday. I will admit that I've had an awful sweet tooth during this pregnancy and have indulged more than I should have. Even though I know I don't need to make any big changes right now since I haven't officially been diagnosed with GD, I feel like this was a small wake up call that I should be more mindful of what I eat.

When I google options for something sweet to eat to help curb some cravings, fruit is almost always an option and primarily recommended. I am *not* a fruit eater. I've never been a fan of fruit, even as a small child. It's a texture and taste thing. I hate pretty much everything about it. If someone offers me a fruit as part of a dessert, I will decline it every time.

So anyway, if anyone has non-fruit sweet treat options that makes this more bearable, I'm all ears and open for recommendations!

Isabel vs Isabelle

I'm pregnant with a girl and the name Isabel(le) popped into my head. I'm really starting to like it - but I don't love that the name has more than one correct spelling to it. It seems that depending on where you live is what drives its spelling. So, if you heard this name and lived in the US, how would you assume it is spelled?

Traveling with a toddler - sleeping arrangements?

Planning to travel with an almost 3 year old in a few weeks - what do you do for sleeping arrangements when your toddler outgrows a pack-n-play? We decided to book a 2 bedroom condo and one of the bedrooms has a full size bed. We're planning on having her sleep on this bed, but I'm honestly worried about her falling off of it. She currently sleeps in a toddler bed at home so it has rails and is low to the ground.

What have you done to ensure your toddlers are safe in an "adult bed" when traveling?

Baby monitor replacement - WWYD?

I have an almost 3 year old and am pregnant with my second. We need to replace our baby monitor because the screen is on its last leg.

I was thinking of getting a split screen system so we can watch both kids. I've been doing more research and honestly it doesn't seem like there are any that are amazing and they seem to have a lot of issues. My husband thinks we don't need a baby monitor for the 3 year old once we move her out of the crib... But she still cries periodically at night and I don't really feel comfortable not having a monitor in her room at night just yet.

So, for those with multiple kids, what do you do for your baby monitor set up? Did you buy one that has split screens? Or do you have multiple units? Brand recommendations welcome! Non-wifi preferred.

Rough morning - just need to vent

I have an almost 3 year old who is very slowly morphing into a threenager. Some mornings are fine and others are just hell. Today was hell.

My toddler is slowly working her way back into our routine. We traveled for the holiday so (all of us) are out of whack. She hasn't been sleeping the best and her GI system is messed up from the poor diet she's had for the last week. So, understandably, she's not the best version of herself, and neither are we.

This morning started out okay, but she woke up crying and fussy and wanted to watch a TV show in our bed. I normally avoid this but since it's been a rough transition back to routine, I let her. Whelp, that turned into a meltdown because I only let her watch one episode and then cut her off so we could get ready for the day. She didn't want to get dressed, refused to brush her teeth or her hair, and didn't want breakfast until it was time to leave. I was just SO frustrated I literally screamed because I was over it. I feel like such a bad mom for losing my cool with her but damn this is so fucking hard sometimes. I'm also 19 weeks pregnant with my second and this experience just makes me feel so incompetent. I seriously don't know how I'm going to manage my life with two kids.

I just feel like a failure today and am mad at myself for losing my temper with her. I just wish our mornings could go smoother.

Also, if anyone has any tips on how to manage fine hair that is always a rats nest in the morning, I'll gladly take them. Brushing her hair is by far the worst thing we have to do everyday because it hurts her to brush it. I already brush it before bed, use a leave-in conditioner spray in the morning, and use a detangling brush. It's still a nightmare and I rarely have her hair fully brushed every day because she runs away or covers her head, making it worse and not allowing me to brush it.

I had a seizure and I'm 15 weeks pregnant

I'm freaking out. I have epilepsy but it is very well managed with medication. I literally haven't had a seizure in almost 5 years before this. I'm on my second pregnancy and with my first pregnancy I had zero issues. On Friday I had a breakthrough seizure and had a grand mal one (full body convulsing, fell on the floor, stopped breathing, etc). I went to the ER and thankfully the baby was okay and I've had my medications increased. But the guilt I feel is next level. I am so so so scared I have hurt my baby and caused permanent brain damage from potential hypoxia from the seizure.

I was just curious if there are others here who also have epilepsy and experienced a grand mal seizure while pregnant. Is your kiddo okay? I just need reassurance I didn't totally fuck my kid up because of this awful disorder.

Thinking about being a SAHM

I have an almost 3 year old and am pregnant with baby #2 and am due this winter. Lately it has been in my head I want to quit my job and be a SAHM. I never pictured this as being my life - I like my job, felt I needed an identity outside of motherhood, and really struggled with my mental health the first year postpartum and work gave me a "break" from the grind that is motherhood.

But now that my toddler is older (and honestly, more fun) I feel like I'm missing out on the little years and I want to spend more time with her. I'm also over the rat race of work/life balance. I do have a flexible job and I still feel overwhelmed and burned out the majority of the time.

But what I'm worried about is that I will be mentally and emotionally exhausted being home 24/7 with 2 kids and being completely in charge of the house (cooking, cleaning, etc). I'm worried resentment will build. And the idea of being totally financially dependent on my husband gives me pause. I also keep thinking that the summer months will be fun because we can do more outside activities, but come winter we're all going to feel cooped up and miserably bored.

Financially we can do this, but mentally and emotionally I just don't know if I can. Are there others in this group who left the workforce when your toddler was a little older and decided to be a SAHM? Do you regret it? How did you find balance so you weren't miserable?

Anyone else absolutely hate pregnancy because of the anxiety it causes?

I'm 14 weeks - officially in the second trimester 🎉

This is my second pregnancy and I feel totally fine. I already had minimal symptoms in the first trimester and now that I'm in the second, those symptoms have pretty much disappeared. I do have a bump and have had several ultrasounds that show baby is good. But now I'm just like... Am I really pregnant? Is baby okay? I have no reason to believe otherwise but the anxiety of the unknown is truly the worst. This is our last baby and even though this time is fleeting, I will never miss being pregnant because I hate this anxiety and I'm so thankful I will never experience it again.

Help me find an alternative name

We are pregnant with our second child and just found out it's a girl. This pregnancy was a long road with infertility struggles and we are so thankful to finally be here and have our family feel complete.

A name my husband and I have bounced around is Lucy. My husband loves it, and there are aspects to it that I do love, but there is just something about it that is holding me back.

I do like how it sounds and I also like the meaning (it means Light, which to me is very symbolic for what we've gone through to get here and kind of reminds me of the light at the end of a storm). But I think what is holding me back is that the name itself gives me nickname vibes, it just feels incomplete for some reason. I know there are longer versions of the name Lucy, but we don't like any of them. And I know the name Lucy is a full and complete name on its own. I also have a lot of associations of the name Lucy being a pet's name. I know a few people whose dogs are named Lucy. So even though it is very much a human name, it still gives me "pet name" vibes - similar to the name Stella.

So anyway, I was wondering if there are any other names out there that have similar vibes to Lucy and what would you name your daughter if you were looking for an alternative?

EDIT - Just a couple of edits to call some things out from the comments -

  1. I know what alternative name options there are for Lucy (Lucille, Lucia, Lucinda) BUT we do not like them. Please do not suggest longer versions of Lucy. I'm well aware they exist and we do not like them and do not want to use them.

  2. Even though I like the name meaning of Lucy, the other names do not have to mean light. It was just a plus that I liked about the name Lucy. We're open to other names that have different meanings.

A small way to celebrate my Mother's Day

I'm sure like many of us, mother's day is just another Sunday with added crap that you have to do. Today has been a typical Saturday of running errands and taking my kid to extra curriculars. I got roped into hosting Mother's Day brunch at my house tomorrow, which means extra cooking, cleaning, and prepping for the week with no downtime.

My husband and I are dividing and conquering today so I'm running errands solo. I took advantage of it and decided to stop at my favorite coffee shop and got myself my favorite drink and a slice of banana bread. It was quite since it's mid-afternoon and I just sat in silence enjoying my treat for 20 minutes. It's my little Happy Mother's Day to me. I hope everyone is finding small ways to make this weekend about you.

Happy Mother's Day to all of you!

What did you do with your unused supplies?

I have unused syringes that I no longer need. I messaged my clinic and they told me to see if a vet clinic will take them because I cannot dispose of them at the pharmacy... What did you do with unused or partially used supplies?

Also, how did you dispose of liquid medications and patches? I have partially used Lupron, gonel F, progesterone, and estrogen patches I no longer need.

I know this is a weird ask - but just curious when you told daycare about another pregnancy and requested a spot in the baby room?

I'm due with my second this December, I'm currently 9 weeks pregnant. I've had an ultrasound so I know the pregnancy is viable (so far) but I wasn't sure when it was appropriate to move forward with notifying daycare. We would have to put down a non-refundable deposit for the spot, so I'm a little gun-shy about telling them too early in the event of something happening between now and my next ultrasound at the end of this month, but also don't want to run into a situation of waiting too long and then we don't have daycare when we need it (which was the case for our first. She didn't start daycare until she was almost 6 months old).

So, just trying to gauge what others have done. When did you tell daycare?

This is just a rant. But it already sucks being sick, being sick while pregnant should be illegal.

I pulled a back muscle on Thursday, to the point I was practically immobile on Friday. I called my OB and was told to take Tylenol, ice it, heat it, and rest. He did prescribe me a pregnancy safe muscle relaxer, but it made me feel awful from the side effects so I don't want to take it again unless it is absolutely necessary. My back has been bothering me off and on all weekend and I'm miserable. I've had this before, and ibuprofen has usually helped significantly. But of course, I can't take ibuprofen... Because I'm pregnant.

Now my stomach is upset from the Chinese food we ordered and I've been to the bathroom multiple times already. I usually take Pepto Bismol for my stomach issues... But I can't take Pepto Bismol, because I'm pregnant.

I just want to feel better ☹️

I have a 2.5 year old and am pregnant with baby #2. My toddler will be 3 when this one is born.

I feel like my toddler is becoming more difficult and pushing boundaries. I know this is very typical toddler behavior, but holy crap - I am freaking out about having another baby and dealing with this behavior. I try to give her choices, autonomy, and independence so she feels more in control. But every day has some form of meltdown or another and I think being pregnant has caused me to have less patience and I find myself losing my cool with her, which then only makes the situation worse.

I'm feeling like a crap mom and I just don't know how I'm going to do this with 2. I feel like I'm going to be stretched too thin and I won't be a good parent to either of them.

Does anyone have any tips on how to make days go smoother so my life doesn't feel so chaotic?
