An Intro to Bond. James Bond

An Intro to Bond. James Bond

From a gun toting glint in Ian Fleming's eye to a global box office sensation James Bond has been drinking vodka martinis and making bad puns for over 70 years. Mike is the M of the episode, explaining the origins of Bond, highlighting some of his best cinematic adventures throughout the decades and talks about the small family with the funny name that shepherded the whole franchise. You can expect us to talk, please don't expect us to die.

I'm excited to see how nerdy this sub culture of James Bond fans is, sounds like there a lot of podcast and tier lists out there, only got to listen to the first few minutes but I'm looking forward to the rest.

Starfighter

Ok, the upside down rebel alliance symbol turned Jolly Roger flag goes hard! But I can help think, this all leads up to "somehow Palpatine returned" don't get me wrong, between this and the Ashoka season 2 trailer, we will 100% see some cool Star Wars shit, but much like Poochy, whenever Luke isn't on-screen, I wonder what's he and Han and Leia are up getting into

Whatcha Watchin, Whatcha Playin: Weekend Edition 8/14

What's up Nerds! Another week in the bag!
A little house keeping first. Subs feeling a little dead, I encourage you to post and upvote I will continue to do the same! We have some great contributors to the sub already, an occasional Host pop in, and we are at the tipping point of some actual discourse! So, Nerd News stories, releases we may be excited about, whatever Nerdy thing your heart desires, please post! And of course, thoughts on the weekly episodes

Now down to business, I got my John Wick Simpsofied skin and the season is coming to and end, debating taking the next season off and focusing on my back catalogue which is extensive.

Silo is still scratching that itch, but some of the acting is a bit flat...looking at you Common. They've strayed pretty far from the second novel, but it's a nice mystery box show.

Just picked up Abs Batman #23, incredible arc right now, loving this rendition of Scarecrow. Almost done with the Butchers Masquerade, I scoffed a few episodes back when it was mentioned there could be moments that make you tear up, but then one hit me like a wall, very strong series looking forward to the next book. Also just picked up the comic version of the Thrawn trilogy, the art looks great, and I've been in a Star Wars mode lately, plan on finishing up Artoo this weekend. Tomorrow night is looking like a fried chicken cook out with some friends.

What are you guys up to? Anyone pumped for Wolverine! Thoughts on the black flag remaster? Keep it up! Later Nerds!

The History of Beat 'em Ups

Crack open a bottle (over a dumb thugs head) and get yourself a whole steaming chicken from a barrel cause we're talking Beat 'em Up video games. There's just something special about stopping crime by walking around streets, beaches, and elevators punching and kicking the same few foes over and over again before running up against a much bigger foe that tries your patience and steals your quarters. This is a fun episode full of history and jokes, perfect to listen to while fending off some ladies with big whips.

Streets of Rage was my jam on Sega Genesis, first time I played was at my cousins house, we rented this and World Series Baseball, my older brother and cousin were more sports inclined, I had to wake up at 2am that weekend and sneak down to the basement to get any time in, good times. Excited to listen to this episode Drop your Gush below, later Nerds!

Whatcha Watchin, Whatcha Playin: Weekend Edition 8/7/2026

What up Nerds!! What are we doing this weekend?
My man Keanu for this week, as I continue to grind on Fortnite to unlock his stupid Simpsons Skin that I must have for some unknown reason. I need his Skin!!! So yea a lot of Fortnite with the wife as the season winds down. Still plugging away at Star Wars Outlaws, very little time for gaming this week (trying to shed some pounds!!). Need some Portal recs if anyone has?

Lots of great comic pulls on Wednesday, Absolute Wonder Woman has taken the crown for my favorite "rendition" in the ABS universe. Silo is back so the weekly show void has been fulfilled, I'm enjoying wherever they are headed with this storyline. Also just re-started the Sopranos, it's been a while but I swear the show is a comedy.

R2D2 has been ordered, Lego Threepio won't be lonely for much longer, sadly the delivery is delayed, so I'll be building an AT-AT pilot helmet this weekend instead.

Happy p.o.e.t.s. Day! Later Nerds!!!

An Ode to Physical Media

Jake leads us through a tribute to physical media! Memories of VHS horror box art! The heyday and resurgence of vinyl! The reliance (and obligation) of giving books as gifts! We cover it all and also share some stories from our listeners about the tangible, physical stuff that made them who they are. If you're old you can remember how it was with us and if you're young you can hear about the pure joy of going over to a friend's house and seeing that they also had a DVD copy of Stargate!

Buckle up Nerds we are one the physical media train! I miss, collect, and respect physical Nerd Media so I've been waiting for an episode like this, and I must say, I love a Jake lead episode. Drop your GUSH below, what do we think of the topic? Later Nerds!!!

This Weekends Lego Build: C-3PO

This was a fun one. Five hour and 14 minute build, Watched Usual Suspect and Masters of the Universe during. I didn't know that the Lego app had a full 3D build guide for all their sets, cut down my disassemble/reassemble time dramatically. I'm thinking he's missing his buddy, maybe next build

Whatcha Watchin, Whatcha Playin: Weekend Edition: 7/32

What's up Neeeeeeerds! Happy fuckin Friday, we did it, we made it through another week, pats on the back all around.
I finally watched Obsession this past weekend, I liked it a lot. I know it's spawned a lot of online discourse and is resonating with a younger crowd, YouTube shorts reactions etc. As an older millennial, I loved it, some of the best horror I've seen in a few years, deeply unsettling. Still playing a lot of Star Wars Outlaws, still really enjoying it. Fortnite is starting to feel like a chore, not sure if anyone else is playing but I have Sprite fatigue. Looking forward to s3 ep4 of Silo tonight, and the finale of Cape Fear. Cape Fear gives me a certain feeling of anxiety, I love it. Picked up the "board game" Azul, has anyone played? Trying to get my wife to play. On the star wars note I've been night reading the novelization of Episode I, planning on skipping AOTC and heading straight into revenge, also have my eyes on a c-3po LEGO, but still haven't pulled the trigger. Looking to be a pretty solid weekend, I was traveling the past two Wednesdays so I have a nice backlog from my LCS to catch up on, including the TMNT 300th issue. What about you Nerds? Whats getting you excited for the weekend? What have you been up to in the nerdosphere this past week? LATER NERDS!!!

Do Physical Games Still Matter?

In the wake of Sony saying physical games are DOA our hosts wonder if this is really that bad of a thing. Is this just the future of gaming and are we actually losing anything? Are you just the old man yelling at clouds (that are full of your game's download info) when you mourn that little box with an actual game inside of it? And what about Gamestop? Won't someone think of poor old Gamestop?! I can't trade in gigabytes, goddamnit!

What's up Nerds! This one hits hard for me, I'm torn honestly. I still posses over 40 NES cartridges and a few of the instruction booklets. For me the lack of an instruction booklet felt like the beginning of then end. Cracking open a fresh Ps2 game to only find a fold out map (looking at you SoCom) And I get it the, technologies improve, games can actually tell stories now, not rely on the booklet to give insight or fill in gaps. I think the last physical game I purchased was Elden Ring, and most often when I do purchase a physical game it still needs to download a few gigs to get up and running. I don't understand Nintendos new virtual cart system, and I've been streaming or going digital for most things, as a gamer since 89' this just feels inevitable, I will miss the titles lined up on the shelf in neat rows, it as some say, the world has moved on, can't wait to listen.

Later Nerds!!

Whatcha Watchin, Whatcha Playin: Weekend Edition 7/24

What up NERDS!
Whelp, I finished Curb, didn't see that coming, well done in my opinion. The King Fisher LEGO set was a lot of fun, it's very addicting, I've got my eye on C-3PO and R2D2. Outlaws is really going strong, once you have the speeder things really start to pick up, it's your basic fetch quest style open world game, but I do love the OG Trilogy aesthetic. Fortnite still going strong, it's something my wife and I can do together so it's easy to get two or three rounds in some nights. Finished Gate of the Feral Gods, wild ride, jumped right into the Butchers Masquerade, no spoilers! I have so many questions about that epilogue. The Clayface trailer looks like they are trying something new, I hope it pays off for DC, I still think Super Girl got too much hate, but I digress. Doomsday trailer looked like more of the same (Jake and Mike did a good breakdown on this weeks scream and shout) drag out Steve Rogers, bad guy stops super strong guy early on to set precedent, rinse, repeat. I hope I'm wrong, it's not like I'm not going to see it in theaters. What's everyone up to this weekend!? Later Nerds!!

Cyclops, The Least Loved Most Popular Member of the X-Men

He's the best there is at what he does and what he does is stoically scold people while blasting people with his concussive eye beams! Cyclops is often portrayed in cartoons and movies as a big ol' dork and fuddy duddy rules follower but the guy has been through a lot in the comics and has a lot of emotional depth. Mike takes Jake and Holden through the history and this X-man's evolution as creators take him from a mopey loner to a strategic genius to an all powerful mutant zealot that even scares Magneto. And yeah, maybe he's not the coolest. But really, that's what makes him cool.

Reading List -
Uncanny X-Men #7 (1964)
Uncanny X-Men #94 and #95 (1975)
Uncanny X-Men #125-128 (1979)
Uncanny X-Men # 144 (1981)
Uncanny X-Men # 201 (1986)
X-Men volume 1, #1 (1991)
X-Men volume 1, #30 (1994)
Cyclops #1-4 (2001)
X-Men: Prelude to Schism# 3 (2011)
Avengers vs X-Men #2 (2013)
House of X 1 (2019)

Been looking forward to this episode for a while! Cyclops was my jam back in the day, let's punch some eyes! About to listen, drop your thoughts below Nerds!!

Whatcha Watchin, Whatcha Playin: Weekend Edition 7/17

What up Nerds!!!
It's Hot Bat summer according to Fortnite, so that's going to eat up most of my weekend, I need to own skin, like Jake. Played a lot of Star Wars: Outlaws while traveling last week, fun game mechanics, I'm enjoying the story, guess I slept on this one. Also started playing dead cells for the first time, very fun. I randomly watched an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm a few days ago and just picked it up from there, been a long time but it holds up, great show. Planning on building a King Fisher LEGO set I was gifted last weekend, and picking up my pulls from my LCS
Happy Weekend Nerds! Stay safe if it's Smokey by you

Jake's Anime Club Presents Witch Hat Atelier Season 1

Jake is our Qifrey as he takes Holden and Mike through the gorgeous world of Witch Hat Atelier, based on the manga by Kamome Shirahama. So many specific rules for magic! So many anxious schoolgirls! So many chibi designed panic attacks! And we discuss it all as we gush on and review this very recent and very fun anime show that we think you should check out. Lots of intro talk before going into spoilers in the second half.

Like most things I used to love, anime took a back seat to my career for too long. Neon Genesis, Utena, Hellsing, Trigun, Dragon Ball and Dragon Ball Z, these are the anime I came up with (+many more). We used to have to buy our tapes (dubbed) at seedy strip malls and flea markets. With new platforms like crunchy roll and the booming Manga industry, I'm excited to see what Jake has to say! Later Nerds!!!
