The prison gym grindset really worked out for some of them!
Middle-grade/YA scifi book about a girl on mysterious planet learning about its past civilization, written recently (2015-2025)
I remember this book used some very specific terminology and plot points that I will attempt to recall as best I can.
-The girl was on a space exploration mission and was also with another person. A pretty critical plot point is that failing to change a filter in their shuttle resulted in an extremely loud siren and also the shuttle possibly venting all its atmosphere.
-the planet was abandoned because of some kind of weird race of reality warping corruption-aliens called something like the Cadence or the Silence or something. I remember they repeated the name of this a lot. They seemed to have vague energy draining powers and looked like blobs of warped space??
-the other villains were a pair of corporate mercenaries working for a place called the Cialis Foundation or something
-later in the story, the plot switches to the perspective of the lost alien civilization. The pov was a "female" researcher meeting up and marrying with her "male" husband who was an artist. I also remember the alien spcies lived in polycule type arrangements bc the researcher was raised by two dads and one mom.
-i also distinctly recall the husband died bc of the *exact* same kind of filter problem that happenend to the protagonist in the first parts.
-another part of the protagonist's backstory is that she had a mom who had recently died of space cancer I think
The title of the book is a complete blank to me, but I recall the cover was the girl amd her mapping drone thing on the ground of a planet on the left side looking up at the stars on the right in a landscape thing
Any help you can render is great!
Edit: i also recall I borrowed this book from my local library. If it is possible for me to review or access borrow logs from my library that would be useful too.
