My hypothesis is that if it were possible to measure online behaviour and compare it to chimpanzees, baboons, and several other primate species we would find virtually no difference in terms of empathy, altruism, and all those other characteristics we tend to associate with our species. Any ideas about what sort of instrument could be used to make such measurements to test the hypothesis?

I am considering a Second Hand purchase of a MMX 300 headset. The unit works perfectly, but the electric cable is shot. I am wondering, is this an easy fix? Can I take it to any Repair person to replace it? Please let me know what's involved. I can get the headset for a great price, but if fixing the cable cost more than the unit, I'll move on.

Edit: My concern is about the actual wire that needs replacing. I do not want to attempt a repair before I understand what it needs to be replaced with. Otherwise, the unit can come back noisy and the repair person would just shrug.

I am wondering what others do about noisy macbooks when plugging in their headphones into their laptops. I have the Apple-branded 3.5mm to USB C dongle in the mail, which I understand will fix some of it. Can anyone else recommend a permanent fix that does not cost a month's rent?

For over fifty years, beginning in the 1970's, Sarah Lawrence College has been coed. For all of this time, their female to male ratio has not budged. Every year, for longer than most readers here have been alive, it is always approximately 5/1. It has never fluctuated substantially. Never. Why?

I know of no other institution anywhere that has this feature -- that is, it is officially coed but one sex is clearly demarcated as a permanent minority underclass, not from any official proclamation but because....well, apparently just because. Anyone have any insight on this?

I live in a condominium complex and cannot sing in my apartment. There is a music room on site that I use. I stream Karafun on my Iphone. I bought a pair of cheap Logitech headphones with a microphone on it thinking that would do the trick ,but Apple caps the volume of any external headphone making my Logitech headset unuseable. I tried the same with their bluetooth AirPods, but there's a latency problem making it unmanageable.

The idea is just to have a headphone set up with a microphone so I can use the reverb and get it to a volume level where I can hear both my voice and the background. I'm sure I'm not the first person that has had this problem. Is there a particular brand of headphone for some other setup that is common for this challenge? Help appreciated

I tried to buy one at Central. I won't bore you with the details, but retail is not going to work out. I occasionally run into little run-down places that have a line on used office chairs of decent quality. Anyone know where the underground market is for office chairs in Northeast CM or thereabouts?

For awhile there, it looked like "I feel threatened" and "this makes me uncomfortable" was going to win the pennant and we were going to do things according to whether or not anyone expressed emotions of fear and emotional trauma about it. We obviously hit a tipping point, roughly a year ago (very roughly). Now the whole thing, across multiple social portfolios, is shifting in a decidedly different direction. Let's face it: standing up at the faculty meeting and proclaiming your fear and anxiety in relation to some topic just doesn't have the same oomph that it did in 2021-2023.

I am moving to a condo over the weekend. I can get a line for 650 baht, but frankly I think I might be able to get by on my "unlimited" phone plan that runs at 10MBPS. I can use my phone as a hotspot for my laptop. Has anyone ever tried it? I know if I am streaming a lot it will probably not work, but I am pretty light on downloads. 650 a month is almost 8K a year...

I really do not have too much stuff, though it would be two loads in a Honda City, I think. Grab Van comes up in my menu as an option. Has anyone ever used it? I will be moving Saturday afternoon.

Yes, I know, some sort of "cooking cream" at Makro and elsewhere, containing vegetable oil and other dispensables. But not an authentic 100% bovine product. Its either milk or some powdered replacement. Carry on, carry on.

I think the attitudes of law enforcement officers in many countries is deeply problematic. I also think that I/O psych might offer the best way to measure the problem. Any studies on this?

EDIT: I am particularly interested in interactions between law enforcement and 1st and 4th amendment "auditors".

Musician here. Chiang Mai is a tough town if you are a musician. My neighbors are very quiet and it would definitely not be appropriate to practice at home. There are rehearsal spaces but that involves travel and booking in advance and considerable expense in hourly rates.

The One Condo looks like the only place in town that advertises rehearsal space as part of the amenities. If anyone knows of others, it would be great to hear from you. I am also looking for an apartment in The One, but the market for one bedrooms is a little thin at the moment. If you have a line, I would appreciate it.

I am an American citizen but live overseas, 365. I am in good health, no ongoing issues, no meds. I am planning to purchase a health insurance policy in the country I reside in, where comprehensive coverage is within my means, if I need it. Likely I will stay here for many years.

I am older, but a few years before medicaid/medicare eligibility will take effect. I am not currently employed anywhere. My visa in the country I currently reside in will likely be for five years. I am unemployed, with no immediate plans to seek employment.

Which policy I purchase here may depend on my eligibility for coverage back in the United States. I have been informed that if I get the proverbial cancer diagnosis or some other medical issue requiring very expensive and elaborate treatment, it will be possible to return to the United States, take up residence somewhere, and apply immediately for insurance so that I can get treated in the United States. Is this true?

I have no doubt the answer is complex, and I want to understand it completely. Obviously this would not pertain to urgent, emergency care.

• I last resided in North Carolina, will pay taxes in that state for 2025 (late this year but I have an extension)
• I had a 2025 marketplace policy which I cancelled on December 31, 2025.
• I currently have zero insurance.
• Day clinics and most meds are not expensive here, so I am leaning towards getting very limited insurance in the country I reside in, primarily for accidents and emergency care.

Prepare to vomit.

Street food is so easy and cheap. It has become my habitual go-to meal. I have not gotten sick, but my stomach has been telling me something is not quite right. This is not a healthy long-term strategy. Trouble is...I do not have a better one. What are y'all doing for healthy meals?

I am wondering if my anecdotal evidence is an accurate representation of the field. I have known more than one that has abused members of their family for decades; at least one who supported making false accusations against others; too many to count who have very, very narrow social outlooks. The list goes on. Just me? Reading this forum causes me to think otherwise.

The medical profession has, for a very long time, had mechanisms to remove physicians who really should not be practicing, but it seems that there really is very little in place in psychology for the same purpose, despite the amount of damage unworthy practitioners are capable of.

What gives?

Not far from Wat Umong in the hills across from CMU on the other side of Suthep. Lots of students, who create a demand for reasonable housing in the neighborhood. I pay 8K for two small rooms in a 15 year old building. I like the managers. If I ask for anything, they get right on it.

It's two rooms; a living area with a kitchenette and a bedroom. Electircity is a ripoff at 8.5 per unit. If I blast the A/C 24/7 I can generate a 4K electric bill, but it is usually less.

Honestly, I really like it. My neighbors are very well mannered and I have been happy here for five months. The thing is, I have been seeing these really nice condos advertised on Facebook recently that are not much more expensive and much nicer....I am on a month to month arrangement where I am...should I move?

Headed to a local embassy close by in a few weeks for a DTV. I have the money needed in a foreign bank account. How do I get the statement notarized?

Several possibilities:

1. build or purchase a vocal booth that will significantly reduce decibel level
2. Find a rehearsal studio nearby with reasonable monthly rates
3. Move out to an area where there are no neighbors
4. Find a warehouse or some other space not designed for vocal practice, but can be modified

There are probably other possibilities I have not thought of. Any musicians who have overcome this hurdle? Suggestions appreciated.
