Pain success story; KFS

Hi all, I have KFS and for those who do not know, it is a vertebrae fusion than often causes severe chronic pain and other symptoms. For me, the fusions are only in my neck (what should've been my neck) and I have had pretty severe migraines and shoulder pain since I was a child.

I have tried just about every pillow on the market. My pillow, the side sleeper, memory foam, feather, flat, square, etc. But NOTHING helped. Something finally clicked last night when I was having another flare up, "why am I using pillows designed for people with regular vertebrae?"

Then I tried something I saw on youtube long ago. How people in some Asian cultures will sleep using just a rolled up towel tucked under their neck; No pillow, just flat on their back.

I tried this last night and my shoulder pain is gone. Neck pain is gone. Head pain greatly reduced. Was it really that simple?

My pain is by no means cured, but it's the small wins that matter ☺️

Hand Soap Refills?

Hey reddit! I am new to the zero waste movement and I am looking to reduce my overall plastic consumption. My partner and I have these great refillable glass soap dispensers that are made for liquid handsoap, but every eco store online only sells foaming handsoap refills. I would love to hear any tricks or brands you use for your handsoap?

(Yes I am aware bar soap exists. I just want to avoid throwing away a perfectly good soap dispenser. Thanks!)

Next steps?

Dammit. I really thought I was in the clear and I just had some Australian roaches that wandered in my kitchen but no. In the past week I have caught this adult in my trap and this guy on my ceiling. The 1st instar nymph is what started this whole search.

I have a very old Florida house and they are so many nooks in crannies that bugs get in from. Honestly it is pretty frustrating. What's my next steps?

I have two cats, a bearded dragon, and a colony of discoid roaches that I would prefer to keep safe from any spraying or chemicals. I would hate for any of my pets or beneficial insects to be harmed. I don't want their food to aytract the roaches either. I just feel pretty stressed right now.

Pets vs Pests, How do I keep my colony safe?

I hope this question doesn't break the rules of the sub but I am a bug lover and roach owner just like you! I have a pretty large colony going of discoids that I raise in a bioactive tank to feed my bearded dragon. Recently I have moved to a new home that has the occasional Aussie nymph scuttling around.

I would love to learn more about Australian roaches in general. Does anyone have any suggestions to protecting my Discoids? Any suggestions would help!

Having Pets in a Space with Pests?

I DO NOT HAVE A MASSIVE INFESTATION!!

Hi reddit, I am a bearded dragon owner and I feed her discoid roaches. Recently my fiance and I moved into a historic rental home. We live in FL and there is already a lot of spider and insect activity in this house besides just roaches. However in the past week I have spotted a few nymphs. (I don't know what kind yet, I am using glue traps.)

How should I protect my feeder colony from pests? Can other roaches be attracted to the smell of discoid droppings?

I also have two cats and we leave food out for them to eat throughout the day. But I have heard that you don't really want to leave out any food because that can attract the roaches. How do you leave food out for pets?

Nymph on glue trap.. American or Brown-banded?

As suggested by the lovely people here I picked up a few glue traps to track the level of activity at my home, after I found 1st instar nymph.

My third night after having glue traps down:

Question about roach behavior

Hello all, looking for a roach expert here. I moved into a historic rental home with a renovated kitchen and all new appliances. Six days into living here I spot a first instar roach nymph, I assume german by the white band.

I live in Florida and lately we have been getting frequent heavy afternoon storms, is it possible the storm could've brought in the nymph? I haven't seen any evidence of roaches or droppings over the past week while deep cleaning.

(I know it's unlikely but I'm in the denial stage and feeling a little frazzled haha)

How do you reduce waste/consumption in a shared space?

Hi there everyone! I share a home with my partner and we have some different views/values when it comes to waste. I am a lot more environmentally focused and my partner values convenience and practicality a bit more.

For example their family enjoys frequent trips to costco and giving us single use bulk products, even when we haven't finished all of the products from the first trip.

I like reusing things when they break, they like buying new. I like shopping at thrift stores for clothes if I need them, they like it new.

I know that ultimately it's large corporations to blame for plastic and textile waste, but I still feel a wave of anxiety when an excessive amount or unneeded products or are brought home.

TLDR: My goal here isn't to try and change anyone's mind because that's not happening. I am really just wondering what changes have you made in your personal lives to reduce waste/overconcumption when you can't control the choices/actions of others.

Outdoor cat stressing out my indoor cats? Advice needed

Recently my partner and I moved into a new home into an area that is quite historic and next to a senior living facility. There seems to be many outdoor cats in the area that are cared for by the seniors. There is at least one cat, with a collar but no tag, who has returned to our doorstep every day since moving in crying at out door for food. They are very friendly and cute, but I am worried for our pet cats. Right now our two cats are at my parents house while we finish moving. I don't know know if this outdoor cat is a fixed male or a female, but I am concerned about this causing territory issues with our two boys.

I don't think we will be coving windows, but I am open to any other suggestions. Thanks!

Green Lacewing :)

Hello little green lacewing in my bathroom! This is like the bug equivalent of seeing an angel in a 7/11.

Time to safely relocate. I am genuinely curious though how they got in...

Meal tips? Struggling with appetite suppression

Hi everyone! I recently increased my doseage, and I am in the 2 week scaries again with this drug.

The appetite suppression has been really challenging and I was wondering if anyone had any tips or go-to snacks that help them get through the day?

It feels like everytime I have a meal it just goes through me immediately, and I am hit with instant fatigue. I really want to make sure I eat and drink enough so I can avoid a migraine. Thanks!!

My kitty keeps harassing his brother?? Help!

My girlfriend has two cats, a 3 yr old male tabby with a kidney disease, and a 2 yr old gentle giant tuxedo boy. Both kitties are fixed, however they have a pretty toxic relationship. Our tabby Mew Mew has some serious behavioral problems, like biting/mounting his brother, chasing him around the apartment, destroying our belongings, and yowling if we are not in the room with him, just to name a few.
I have heard some people say that it’s because he needs more enrichment or he is bored? I try to play with him as much as possible. But I have also heard it might be a territorial thing. Any advice or products would be appreciated, I am starting to worry for our tuxedo kitty, Scooter, he looks so scared all of the time. ☹️
Thanks!
