Had to buy it…
If you’re like me, you have a list of obscure/obsolete/uncommon firearms in your head. I know for a lot of people that’s movie or “vibe” guns…for this sub the SPAS 12 would be a good example.
When it comes to shotguns, I’m a simpleton. Give me a rock solid pump. This has been on my list for years and years. Not obscure or obsolete by any means, but not common. You can walk into just about any gun store and browse their selection of used shotguns and you’ll most likely find an Ithaca 37. They made so damn many of them there was a time when they were ubiquitous. I don’t know how many of these commercial 8 shot models were made, but you almost never see them. I can’t remember the last time I saw one for sale in a store. I couldn’t leave it there.
This one was made in 1975 and I’m a happy camper.
This is gonna be fun…
So a long while back I posted some hate about this pistol. Well, with a little break in, it’s now in the bag every time I go to the range. I enjoy it, the kids love it.
I thought to myself, how can I make this more fun? Farrow tech had an answer. I bought the FT17 pro chassis, a shitty red dot and threw on the suppressor I had, voila…FUN
And, so I don’t have to mess with it ever again, I bought another P17. Two kids, two P17s, makes sense.
So this post is basically just a general endorsement of the P17. I really like mine and you might too. Now I just need someone to make an FRT for these…
The box makes her all antsy in the pantsy

Finally got one
Went to my LGS yesterday to pick up my mail. I was able to snag this really beautiful nickel Colt MKIV/Series 70 with the large roll marks. While not perfect perfect, this has no major blemishes and came with the box and docs. So it’s about as perfect as you can get. I posted last week about picking up a blued twin to this pistol and oddly enough this one was less, much less. And from the same dealer too. I had to get it.
And happy Father’s Day to you all. I’m going shooting while the kids sleep!
Today is the day, WGW
Pre warning Speed Six, Simply Rugged holster, Magpul “el pistolero” belt, couple’a HKS speed loaders with 135gr Golden Sabers. There is nothing to add or subtract here. This is pretty perfect.
.45 Friday
Just brought this home. I have been struggling mightily to find an early, large billboard Colt Series 70. It seems they are almost always modified with parts from the time, i.e. bomar sight rails, Clark parts or set up for bowling pin matches etc. If not that, they’re overpriced or horribly beat up.
I just wanted a clean, stock early Series 70. Finally found one that’s pretty perfect with box, manual and blank warranty card. I paid too much for it too…but the pickings are slim.
15-2? Don’t mind if I do
Filled another void in my collection today when I stumbled on this 15-2. I honestly don’t know that more than two or three of the cylinders have been fired. Aside from the slightest bit of wear on the leading edge of the muzzle and cylinder, this thing is mint. I’m guessing it was stored in a holster and pulled out from time to time. Super happy with this find.
On the fence…
I am really on the fence about buying this. I have a few logical reasons to get it, and many logical reasons to pass:
Pro
Immaculate interior
Manual
4x4
Single cab
Fresh oem color paint
2.7L
Getting harder and harder to find
Turn key, ready to go as is
Con
Price. They want 15900. I think it’s over priced…but I do think they’ll get it from someone. With tax, title and license we are pushing 18K. If I could get it all in for 15900, I’d be more likely to do it. I don’t want to spend 18K
It’s at a dealership, so price is firm.
Salvage title. It was in an accident that bent the frame upward at the point between the cab and the bed. No cracks, no welding required to repair…but that’s now a weak point and not a good place to have one. Is this as big a concern as I think it is?
The salvage title should bring the price down
I don’t need this at all. This would be purely for fun and may get passed down to my youngest in a few years…though he has no interest in it.
Markets fluctuate, trends pass and I’m not sure this will retain its value.
Thanks for your opinions.
Fresh from the ‘smif
Had a little bit of work done to this Series 80 Govt model I picked up a few months ago…Wilson firing pin, spring and firing pin stop, Kart barrel, Ed Brown bushing and link. The smith seemed quite pleased with herself and it sure feels good, can’t wait to get it to the range.
