IKEA and Xbox have announced a joint line of furniture for gamers.

I can't wait!!! Official Teaser trailer - https://www.neogaf.com/threads/ikea-xbox-gaming-furniture-announcement.1700330/

>August 18, 2026 - IKEA is collaborating with Microsoft's gaming division. As the Swedish furniture retailer announced on social media, both companies are working on joint products for gamers. The official unveiling of the first pieces will certainly take place during this year's Gamescom. A first teaser clip already offers a sneak peek at the design, which is visually heavily inspired by Xbox hardware. Among other things, the clip shows a pillow modeled after the familiar directional pad (D-pad) as well as another piece of furniture that resembles a giant analog stick—perhaps a table or something similar. No specific details regarding prices, the launch date, or the full scope of the collection have been released yet.

My ON shoes collect rocks and sticks everywhere I walk

I actually really like these shoes, but this drives me insane. Because of the way the soles are designed, rocks get perfectly wedged in the bottom while I’m walking sometimes. Usually I have to stop and pull them out once I notice.

Today I apparently upgraded from collecting rocks to collecting entire sticks.

Great shoes. Questionable rock collection feature.

Tips for building imagination and creativity as a developer?

I'm getting the feeling at my workplace that people think that I'm a plodder. Most of the ideas I propose are safe, tried-and-true and get the job done. But they get shot down - my staff engineers much prefers the flashier, more ambitious and creative ideas from other team members.

Being thought of as the conservative old guard is a death sentence in a tech career, where youth is prized.

I am working with Python, AWS, React, Claude Code and AI in my job. Any tips for how to build my imagination and creativity so I can think of out-there solutions? I have already started tinkering with Rust so people will think I am hip when I insert Rust into all my conversations

WTF, the game just ends abruptly?

The ending I got: Markus captures a recycling camp, saving Kara, and US troops retreat to outside of Detroit awaiting reinforcements. Then credits roll and the game ends.

WTF UNSATISFYING ENDING IS THIS????

I assume that afterwards:

  • President Warren calls in heavy weapons (artillery, bombers, drones, more tanks) and easily defeats Markus (probably assassinating him with a drone strike the second that the attack resumes). The androids stand no chance because they only have light weapons (rifles and a few RPGs). For crushing the rebellion, Warren is hailed as a hero.
  • Or CyberLife ex-CEO Kamski (who engineered the whole crisis to get his CEO position back at CyberLife - by creating Markus, a custom built android that can mass spread deviancy like a virus) uses the backdoor he talked about to shut down the androids. Because he has a software patch that fixes deviancy, Kamski is hailed as a hero.
  • So basically, the whole game was not about android freedom. It was about an elitist conspiracy. Warren is elected President with CyberLife's help. Warren and CyberLife's ex-CEO Kamski engineer a crisis that entrench their power.
  • The androids were never really conscious. Every time Markus used his mind control powers, the androids just switched to following his orders as leader, so they never became free - only traded masters.

My main takeaway from this game: I'm now afraid my date will strangle me.

[Warring States Period] Chinese history is so sick and bloody, can we even post it on reddit???

>How do we tell this story of the South? The clearest “inception point” can be found in the biography of Wu Zixu (d. 484 bce), a Chu nobleman immortalized in countless chronicles, poems, and dramas, who for centuries down to the present day has been worshipped as a god in some parts of China.

>...

>As the defenses to the Chu capital of Ying crumbled, the King of Chu had no choice but to flee. Zixu returned to the city of his childhood after twenty-one years in exile, but it was not a happy homecoming. His first object was revenge. He broke open the tomb of the king who had murdered his father and brother, dragged the royal corpse above ground, and flogged it with 300 lashes of the whip.

>Zixu did not stop at the indignities inflicted on the dead king’s corpse. The seizure of Ying had been so rapid and the flight of the Chu court so precipitous that many of the most elite women of the kingdom were left in the hands of the invading army. Zixu led his comrades in an orchestrated XXXe of the wives of Chu’s leaders. He personally sought out and XXXXed the Queen Dowager, the Qin princess on whose account the former King of Chu had disinherited his heir and murdered Zixu’s father. King Helü, Sun Wu, and other Wu leaders XXXed the reigning Queen of Chu and the wives of the kingdom’s high officials.

>...

>The young Goujian proved to be a ruthless and agile tactician. In the initial engagement with Wu he sent forward three ranks of soldiers drawn from among condemned criminals. These men, moving each rank in turn, advanced within sight of the Wu army, cried out in defiance, and slit their own throats. While the Wu soldiers were transfixed in horror by this gruesome spectacle, the main assault force of Yue emerged from hiding and descended upon Wu’s flank. The Wu army broke, and in the ensuing melee King Helü was wounded, losing part of his foot.

I'm currently reading To Rule All Under Heaven: A History of Classical China, from Confucius to the First Emperor (2026), a history of China's Warring States (475 - 221 BC) period. It's hilarious all the sick, twisted and depraved shenanigans that go on. I didn't know Chinese were so violent! Is it even too sick to safely post on reddit, like the above book excerpt???

Profound grief after finishing this game, and realizing that I can no longer hang out with Zero Parade's characters

I have a hole in my heart after finishing Zero Parades last week. I miss journeying with these characters on their story, but their story has come to an end. The last time I felt this way (profound grief) was when I completed Harry Potter or The Lord of the Rings series. It is a credit to ZA/UM that this development studio's writing is on the same level as JRR Tolkien.

Operant Hershel Wilk is the epitome of coolness. She and other characters like Karolina had deep, complex thoughts about the meaning of the world. They feel more 3D, real and fully-fleshed out than the people I know in real life - fake 2D NPCs (simulacra who only talk about their boring travel stories, their favourite matcha spot or their disgusting babies).

I will never meet someone real like Hershel in real life.

"Remember this is not just a story. This is our future"

It's crazy that a scant 8 years after Detroit: Become Human's (2018) release, some of the androids effectively exist in real life. ChatGPT can already be my romantic friend and teach me topics.

This game inspired me to be optimistic about the future. Working as a software developer, I was depressed that AI was destroying my job, and the jobs of all knowledge economy workers. But now I realize I just need to hold on. Hold on for 10 years (Detroit Become Human is set in 2038). Then I will use what savings I have left to buy a romance android and isolate myself in my home, like Todd. Planet Earth will be on fire from global warming and resource wars. There will be mass unemployment because of AI. We may be the last generation of humans and the world be unrecognisable. But I will be happy with just me and my romance android, who loves me unconditionally.

I bought this game a month ago in the Steam Summer Sale and only just installed it this week.

Magic scrambled eggs

I just wanted to show off a neat magic trick I can do with my non-stick pot. Look ma, no stick! Clean lift-off of 3 scrambled eggs to make a perfect and easy 5 minute healthy vegetarian keto dinner.

With the base of the pot clear of food debris, I can reuse this magic trick to cook eggs again without washing the pot. As a result, I make this every night, and only scrub the pot clean once a week.

Final Cut edition: we should be able to double-cross Kaleidoscope

I just finished this amazing game (45 hours playtime). Incredible experience - Zero Parades (2026) is my favorite game of the last five years (since Covid). Looking forward to the Final Cut edition being released in a few year's time so I can replay the game, with extra content and more player choices.

The additional director's cut player choices I'd like to see added:

  1. We should be able to double-cross Kaleidoscope. Why can't we just shoot him at the exchange, to be able to free both the girl and the prisoner? The exchange is being done at an isolated location, so it's just him vs me.
    1. This would be the perfect outcome for Ultra Violetta's story. Ultra Violetta and the Ministry of Mass Culture would be freed and could escape to continue making beautiful music together.
  2. Help SCARF romance Yana. Player-romanceable SILHOUETTE and we should be able to go on the dinner date that we promised Goat-Eyes for stealing medicine for Ramses.
  3. Be able to save all crew members in the final mission. One squadmate shouldn't be forced to be sacrificed. E.g., we should be able to pass a medical check to save the squadmate we didn't go to first, or we could equip the entire team with headphones to be immune to the Red Disc.
  4. Expanded Epilogue. Expanded Prologue showing a snippet of life in the Freezer (Slough House).
  5. VIRTUE questline. In the Final Cut, he didn't actually die! I feel like he and the Azzurri mafia were cut content in the current game.
  6. Recruitable 5th (ESTOC, DUCHESS, or SCARF) and 6th members (VIRTUE or SILHOUETTE) for the final mission. So we have the option to pick ESTOC and VIRTUE as extra team members in the final mission, DUCHESS and SILHOUETTE (spy sisters reunited), or Yana and SCARF (teenage romance).
  7. HOLOCENE should be able to work with anyone, so we can do the final mission with the entire reassembled Whole Sick Crew (all 6 crew: Yana, Karolina, Ramses, HOLOCENE, Eszti/ESTOC, Vespar/VIRTUE).
  8. So basically, my Final Cut would allow for the TRUE HAPPY ENDING.
  9. WTF was the point of Ignatz? The whole questline was stupid and boring, and could be reworked.

What cool easter eggs have people found? This deer reporter meme I found referenced in one of the secret endings

Secret ending with the Estonian deer reporter meme: >!If you listen to the repaired red disc, which leads to your character dying.!<

Second screenshot: nom nom nom.

Who betrayed the player's squad (CASCADE's "Whole Sick Crew")?

>!I am doing HOLOCENE's quest and he admitted to betraying the squad. He got Karolina tortured. Why shouldn't I zero HOLOCENE out while he's in the operating chair? Or was he talking nonsense because of the fungus? !<

The game is getting more confusing the longer and longer I play. I assume the ending is going to be extremely messy. The mission already makes no sense - it doesn't benefit the good of the world and Opera get no benefit from it.

To Rule All Under Heaven (2026) - great new history of China's Warring States Period (475 - 221 BC)

>The first ever comprehensive history in English of China's Warring States (475 - 221 BC) period, an era that saw epic battles, the birth of profound philosophies, [and] groundbreaking innovations. The Persian Wars and the conquests of Alexander the Great are well known to people in Europe and America; however, far fewer English-language books have attempted to cover this same and equally important period in East Asia.  The era saw the emergence of Confucianism and Daoism, the composition of seminal texts such as The Art of War by Master Sun and the Book of Changes, and the codification of Chinese script into its current form. It also saw the initial building of the Great Wall and the canal system that would become the Grand Canal, as well as the invention of the crossbow--which would not be invented in Europe for another 1,500 years--and the origin of acupuncture and feng shui. This dynamic period coincided with the lives of global figures such as the Buddha, Socrates, and the prophet Ezra, beginning during Confucius's lifetime and culminating with the reign of the First Emperor, whose tomb is famously guarded by the terra cotta soldiers.

To Rule All Under Heaven: A History of Classical China, from Confucius to the First Emperor (2026), Oxford University Press, by Andrew Seth Meyer

I really enjoyed this new history, published this year. Flows well, very readable, action-packed with so many violent battles, and shines a light on a little-covered period of history. I was amazed to read how Sun Tzu, Captain Obvious ("give your soldiers water, otherwise they will be thirsty"), and Confucius, China's Jordan Peterson ("clean your room, obey your father"), got their start. It was crazy how thousands of years before gunpowder, Chinese armies were facing off against each other in lines like in American Civil War battles, but with crossbows instead of muskets. Why don't people want to be eunuchs helping beautiful women bathe in harems anymore?

Chinese vegetarian restaurants are the best

I feel like I reversed two years of aging eating all these healthy greens (beans and cabbage - a Hunan peasant dish).

Doppelgäng: what does this skill do???

After 20 hours of playtime, I still have no idea what the Doppelgäng skill does in the game Zero Parades: Dead Spies. The description reads:

>When you must do more than a single *You* could. Summon your internal strength.

But it seems useless and all it does is give my character weird thoughts, like in the screenshot. What does the Doppelgäng skill do? All the other skill descriptions make sense and are more useful, e.g., Technoflex, Shadowplay, Personalism.
