Best Place to Go For Labor Day

Hey all. I have a wedding to attend Labor Day weekend. Haven’t done anything fun in a while. I can’t jet out til after the wedding which will end at night. I booked a ton of flights (all refundable because I booked with miles) to:
Rehoboth, Fire Island, Boston/ P-Town, Vegas, Nashville, New Orleans, or Orlando.

I’ve been to all in the past.

Absolutely love P-Town. Fire Island I can tolerate. Never been to Rehoboth during gay holidays. I’d strongly prefer a beach, but 1.) I’d be going solo at this point (and the 3 beach places above are very expensive if you don’t have friends to share/ split a house with). 2.) it seems like most places will be ending their funnest / craziest festivities and start winding down Sunday.

Which places are still gonna go crazy Sunday - Monday? Vegas I thought the White Party would go til Sunday but I read it wrong - just the pool party ends at 5pm. So don’t think that’s worth it. The hike to P-Town from Boston or Fire Island from JFK is a lot for just a day or two.

What do you guys recommend? I can go to Orlando and stay at a beautiful Marriott Villa timeshare 2 bedroom for a week for like $500 and have friends visit and do Halloween Horror Nights and Epic Universe (fun childish theme park things) - so it’s either that or somewhere to do crazy gay stuff.

Which locations will still be super fun Sunday - Monday/ Tuesday? New Orleans?

Any CPA’s or People that Do Taxes Here?

My last CPA was an asshole and quit. He amended my 2021 returns which I was supposed to get a good refund for but because he quit in May they now want me to pay $1,900. I also have to pay my 2025 taxes with the extension til October. Can someone please help assist with this? The amendment and what the IRS needed for 2021 is still in place so I’m sure it won’t be much work aside for 2025. Thank you.🙏

Eagles Presale Tickets (Registered)

Received text around 10 am PST with link. It’s now 10 pm PST. Clicked link all day and it gave me nothing but all “lock signs” despite logged into the same account I requested the presale from. It is asking me to input case sensitive password (not My Ticketmaster password). Where is this case sensitive password? I was only texted a link, please see below and I am logged into my profile and it will not let me unlock anything… I don’t understand. Looked in my junk email, spam texts, and nothing.

So About that MPRE… 👀

I was hoping they’d go easy on the fresh set of grads, 1Ls, 2Ls, 3Ls… but damn.

Curious to see if I’m being overdramatic or not. I felt like they were trying to test more nuances than the actual licensed questions from NCBE, or Themis/ UWorld written questions. There were a lot of words on their I didn’t see before nor know the definitions of (forgot the one that tripped me up but it was beginning with a p or s form of law - like promulgating law (that wasn’t the word) or something). Couldn’t tell if the docket status meant previous dockets, or current dockets - the grammar “HAD counsel” “then litigated” and whether or not it was on the active docket status with cases pending. Idk. Recognized many of the fact patterns, couldn’t find the solid answers I was looking for.

Contemplating Buying a Deeded Week Resale Redweek. Any Advice?

how does redweek resales for marriott timeshares work? if a posting says $1500 and maintenance $2000, what does this mean? you make a one time payment of $1500 to buy it and then have to pay $2000 a year in maintenance fees? are there any other fees you must pay such as taxes, interval memberships, anything else marriott charges, etc? isnt it better to buy the cheapest marriott vacation club property than the most expensive one because you can always trade that one out through interval for the property you really want? is it a better investment to buy points or a deeded week if i want to stay at different properties around the world - which would be cheapest? deciding whether to buy a 2 bedroom deeded week with Marriott Newport Coast Villas or 2 bedroom deeded week with Marriott Palm Desert Villas or Shadow Ridge villas both within a moderate to high demand annual deeded week. Palm Desert is much cheaper. Wont I get titanium status for life buying a MVC? lifetime titanium status is given to MVC owners but dont know if that is for the initial buyers or not. Will the properties above have the highest bargaining power for properties such as Marriott Vacation Clubs in Maui for Christmas/ New Years?

For what it’s worth, I’ve stayed at nearly 60% of the top of the line MVC properties around the world. It’s decent but nothing to write home about like if booking a standalone stay somewhere like the Four Seasons.

And I’m really not interested in points. Interval owns Disney Vacation Club and Hyatt Vacation Club now too or something like that? I’d be very interested in transferring deeded weeks / points to Disney Vacation Club.

Character & Fitness Attorney Recommendations

*Likely* Having a hearing in MO and have had difficulty Googling one or two different law firms within the entire state that do these. Anyone have to go through these formal Boards or know someone who does? What to expect, how to prepare, etc.

In my head I’m imagining something like the O.J. Simpson trial. But considering I never killed anyone, nor ever had any convictions for anything, I don’t know.

Also, fun, horrible fact: my ex military friend (ex when I found out about this a few months ago), was charged with murder by shooting his roommate in the face and served time. He is now at a Top 14 law school, that is probably the most liberal in the country, in the most liberal state. I went to a T14 too, but when I tried transferring in to that school I was told that “good luck, they are not very military friendly here.” And they let in a murderer and approved his C&F.

Please let me know if you have any good references in (any state at this point) or close to the state above.

When Will We Find out About NextGen Reciprocity?

Really want to take NextGen in February 2027 to get it out of the way. Since CA is not having a CA specific component til like 2030 and is solely using NextGen with no additional component from 2028-2030, what is the likelihood that they’ll finally accept portable NextGen UBE scores instead of having to retake it in CA which makes no sense if it’s the same administered exam?

Taking MPRE… 3rd Time

Yikes, right?!

Horrible at multiple choice but that’s not the issue.

Took pro rep that summer and then took MPRE summer or fall 2020 in DC. Only did a few hours of studying (like 2.5 max) before exam and got a 79. Passing for my jx.

Took it again this March. Got an 84. Only really studied for like 2-3 days maybe and didn’t even make it through 100-200 practice questions. Missed CA by 1 multiple choice question (84 -> 86).

So embarrassing because this is supposed to be such an easy exam. I’m going to study my butt off the next 4 days and take the exam Wednesday morning. But I’m just going to keep doing practice questions religiously and reviewing all brief / extended explanations and do like 50-100 per day.

Anything else I should do to get that 1 extra point? And correct me if I’m wrong but I was told that your score is scaled to how well people in your jx are scoring. And the national pool. Given Feb Bar exam scores are very low wouldn’t that make March MPRE scores low too on the scale vs. summer or fall scores with a higher pool?

What to Do if You’re Being Sued by American Express

Hi all,

American Express sued me nearly 5 years ago over a $40,000 debt that they then increased to $100,000+ in an amended complaint. The credit bureaus all sided with me and took the accounts off and blocked them. Even American Express sided with me and gave me everything back initially, then put it all back on unfortunately.

My lawyer sucks and has just dragged this case on for 4 1/2 years. A judge didn’t even get assigned til a few months ago. The law firm that is suing me handles a majority of Amex cases out of New York. I found a ton of top law firms, including the NY attorney general that have gone after Amex’s debt collection law firm.

However, they are unable to help me as my case is in a very small town in a nearby state and they 1.) don’t have any attorneys licensed in said state and 2.) the attorneys they referred REFUSE to litigate there as it is such a small and corrupt town and “very hostile to debtors.”

What should I do in this situation? I want this gone as it is affecting my life and career with background checks and I don’t want anything further being public record. I’m supposed to do a deposition next week and don’t want to.

I’d settle if I could but my lawyer (who sucks and is very money hungry) is insisting Amex won’t open the negotiation table to settle without 1.) a copy of my tax transcripts, and 2.) a personal financial statement. I was told not to send either by many law firms and people on these threads - sending them is like showing your poker hand and is dangerous, can give them more ammo in court, etc. I did send over my tax transcript, but the personal financial statement I feel will hurt me down the long run. I do not think they are playing fair and will be using this against me. One little omission or mistake can be used in court against me and I don’t want that.

Anyone have experience with this? What can I do at this point? My lawyer is insistent that I send the personal financial statement. But if I send it, they will see that I have more than enough funds to pay the $100,000+ plus interest and attorneys fees. So I’m damned if I do, damned if I don’t and have no idea what I should do. Tried calling Amex today to settle and they said it’s out of their hands and with that debt collector law firm.

There’s been issues with the case since Day 1. Amex’s first counsel told me they would dismiss the case with prejudice and never did. They then TOLD ME to hire a specific attorney and once I was going to they said “I would hire him.” They can’t do that! It’s illegal! And I did hire him and he hasn’t done crap for me in the last 5 years. What would you do? I’ll settle for $5,000-20,000 if that but that’s already overpaying, definitely not $40,000-100,000+.
