How do you know what your calling is or feels like?

‘What do you wanna be when you grow up?’ Was always a popular question as a kid. It’s something we started fantasizing about as young children and we would constantly change our minds as we got older, or maybe we were pressured or influenced by our parents/family to pursue a particular path.

Eventually comes a moment when you feel like you have the answer, or at least a good idea of the general direction you want to go. Some of us are chasing passions or hobbies in hopes to make a career out of it, other people are chasing pay checks/life styles and then there are those of us who have a calling. We envision ourselves in the role and we start to mentally plan out the path we need to take to achieve it.

I remember I wanted to be many different things growing up, but one thing that remained constant was wanting a career in science/health care. I took a career aptitude test in grade school and it said I should be a dentist. I took this as a sign that I should be in medical field. My dad’s best friend is an optometrist, I thought that would be an awesome career. Optometry was my goal for a long time in grade school. I remember the exact moment I first heard of anesthesia and was immediately drawn to it. (I was a bus boy at red lobster at 16 when I first imagined myself as an anesthesiologist) — would you consider any of these as “callings” ?

Fast forward 6 years, graduated college with health sci bachelors. Almost pursued ABSN but ultimately decided against it. Fast forward another 14 years, 35M now, still never got into the medical/health care field but recently started my journey into nursing school that I should have done 12 years ago.. and my long term goal? CRNA- which is still an anesthesia provider that I used to dream about when I was 16.

I found an entire community that is also pursuing anesthesia and it’s exciting to feel like I’m apart of it and it has me wondering.. is this what a “calling” feels like?

Is anesthesia my calling since I’ve always felt weirdly drawn to it and fascinated by it? Or is it more of health care in general being my calling? Is it possible to have multiple callings?

Do you think my 10 year old would like a puppy friend?

I have a 10 year old GSD. He used to have a big nether (choc lab) that passed a few years ago. We have a 2 year old cat that loves the GSD. They play together occasionally, but you can tell my GSD is slowing down.

I’ve had the mindset of letting him live out his golden years as the star child who gets all of our attention.

I keep having this reoccurring thought about bringing in a new pup or if we should wait it out.

Pros:
-I’m not working right now so I have all the time to focus on training a new puppy
-I think after the initial jealousy that he would enjoy the company of another dog (but I’m not 100% sure of this)
-the puppy and cat would likely play more often

Cons:
-puppy will be taking attention away from older dog
-older dog might not want a young puppy around

Has anyone had experience with this and what do you recommend?

This is one of the most infuriating things that happen in my car. I’ll plug in my phone for maps or music, barely touch the usb cord and it disconnects (not physically) and won’t play my music or anything. I have to unplug and retry several times. If the wind blows too hard or someone stares at the cord too long, it disconnects. I wanna scream every time, it’s so annoying.

Yes I’ve tried charging cords.
USB ports don’t seem to look broken or misaligned

Any ideas on how to fix this?

Was laid off in January and cannot find work in my field. I have decided to go back to school to do a career change but in the meantime, I am on unemployment benefits that will run out in a few months. Starting in June and through December, I’ll be in lecture 2 days a week in the middle of the day, so a full time 9-5 job won’t be an option. Was hoping to find a part time job that makes at least $2k per month minimum. Thanks in advance!
