If the main character of a book is deeply flawed, are they still the protagonist?
In the genre of lit that I like, “weird girl lit,” the main character is often a woman with some sort of emotional, dark, unhinged, even violent behavior.
It makes me wonder whether she is still the protagonist? Is she also the antagonist at the same time? Or are all of the people opposing her throughout the story, her antagonists? (Even if those people are good people).
I learned in school that protagonist is good/hero and antagonist is bad/villains so now my head is in a scramble 😆
I’m just a reader, but Reddit suggested I ask here.
