Houston Texas in 1979 between July and October, five young people were slaughtered with a horrifying signature the killer nearly or completely decapitated them. It all started on July 27, 1979 when Alys Rankin, a 33-year-old single mother and secretary, was found dead in her Orchard Apartment unit after missing work. The scene was chaotic. She had been sexually assaulted, bound with an electric cord, and stabbed. Whoever did this also took a gruesome trophy, completely decapitating Alys and taking her head from the scene. Because her door wasn't forced open, she likely knew the person or had simply left it unlocked. Just two weeks later police were called to another gruesome scene at the Orchard Apartments. Mary Calcutta, a 27-year-old clerk living just a few floors away from Alys, was found butchered on her bathroom floor. She had been terrified by her neighbor's murder, even talking to a friend about barricading her front door. She fought hard for her life, but was sexually assaulted and stabbed so many times she was nearly decapitated.

Right around the time police were pulling up to Mary's apartment, another horrific discovery was made nine miles north. Twenty-six-year-old Doris Threadgill was found in her townhome, her throat slashed so deeply her head was barely attached. But Doris's apartment told a completely different story. It was perfectly clean with no signs of a struggle and no sexual assault. Two wine glasses and an ashtray near the sink hinted she might have been entertaining whoever ended up killing her. Then, after a six-week quiet period, a teenage couple vanished during a Wednesday night date in October. The next morning, 17-year-old Joann Huffman was found shot to death face-down in Watonga Park. Soon after, police found her 18-year-old boyfriend, Bobby Spangenberger, stuffed into the trunk of a white Dodge at a nearby used car lot. Bobby was completely decapitated, and his head was nowhere to be found.

It's been 45 years since these murders and no one has ever been charged with their killings, was this the work of one serial killer or multiple?

Teen Wolf star Dylan Sprayberry has officially come out as a Scientologist.

In a six minute video shared to Instagram, the 28-year-old revealed that he joined the controversial religion after getting sober. 

'I am a Scientologist. I've been a Scientologist for three years now. It's been an epic experience for me. It's been so fantastic,' he declared.

The actor, who has been sober for approximately five years, said that he turned to Scientology in a bid to cure his anxiety and depression, which he believes is what led him to 'self-medicate' with drugs and alcohol.

Sprayberry then opened up about the 'purification' process he went through after joining the Church of Scientology.

'I was lucky enough to meet some amazing Scientologists and the first thing that you do as a Scientologist — when you start doing your services — is something called the purification rundown,' he shared.

'The purification rundown is what it sounds like. It's basically a detox program that gets drugs and toxins out of your body for good. I did that and it was awesome. It was so much fun, because I'm a very active person, so doing the detox program with the running and the sauna sweat felt so good.'

He then touted science-fiction author and Scientology founder L. Ron Hubbard's book The Way to Happiness as a key component in his spiritual journey.

'The whole reason I was depressed and anxious and all that stuff was because I was not being that person who creates happiness for myself,' he said.

'I was creating depression and anxiety by my behavior, my actions, my point of view on the world. So when I read that book, it really helped open my eyes to the power of that.

'It's not only something that you do in your mind, but it's something that I do with my actions in telling the truth, taking care of your body and not doing drugs and helping your parents and not judging other people's religions.'

Monday 26th September 1994 should have been an ordinary day in the lives of the Pacey family from Grantham. The Pacey family consisted of 39 year old self employed plumber Andrew, his 38 year old wife Julie, and their two children Helen, 14; and Matthew, 11. The family lived in a respectable four bedroom house on Grantham’s Longcliffe Road, a built up, well populated affluent area, with well kept houses and gardens. The Pacey’s were by all accounts a happy family, popular and outgoing, and well liked with lots of friends. Both Andrew and Julie were from the Grantham area born and bred, and still had the majority of their families living close by. They had been childhood sweethearts and had been married for 18 years.

Julie worked part time as a helper at the day nursery located in the St Peter and Paul nursery on Trent Road, meaning that she could always be home in time for her children getting back from school. Most days, Julie minded the daughter of a neighbour after school also because the girls’ mother had to work. Every day in fact, except a Monday.

At 4:15pm that Monday, Helen Pacey arrived home and after walking through the door, called out to her mother as was her usual custom. No answer. Helen called again to no answer, and after ascertaining that her mother’s car was in the driveway and that she was not downstairs or in the back garden, went upstairs to look and discovered her her mother dead behind the bathroom door she had been strangled.

The scene was preserved as best as possible, and police were contacted immediately. 

Julie was lying face down on her bathroom floor, with her tights and underwear around her knees. She had been viciously sexually assaulted. However, there were no signs of a struggle and barring the ligature mark around her throat, Julie showed no signs of being beaten or having been involved in a struggle. Her upper clothing was undisturbed and her long, well manicured fingernails were undamaged. There was no signs of any ransacking to the house, indeed, it was as spotlessly tidy as it usually was.

What was missing, however, was a very distinct watch that Julie wore that had been bought from a Paris holiday just two months before. It was an expensive Luc Desroches watch, of which there was not another one like it in the UK.

Retracing Julie’s steps on that fateful Monday, detectives found that she had gone to the nursery to assist as usual that day at 10:00am, and had left there at around 2:00pm. There was evidence to suggest that Julie had come in from work as usual – her turquoise nursery overall was found hanging in its usual place on the back of the bedroom door. She had made a cup of coffee and eaten a chocolate bar – the evidence of this was found in the bedroom and the wrapper matched other bars found in the kitchen cupboard. Julie then either began retouching her make up or removing it – make up items including nail polish remover were found on the bed alongside her handbag. It must have been just then that Julie either let in her killer, or he let himself in and attacked her, most likely in the bathroom. She was then savagely raped and strangled with a ligature – believed to be something like an electrical cable or a flex that the killer took away from the scene with him. The murder weapon has never been found.

Enquiries did lead detectives to a man in Blue overalls who to this day has never been traced. A woman named Mrs Mair Thomas was getting into a taxi just a short distance from Julie’s house up Longcliffe Road at 3:10pm that Monday afternoon. A man stepped out into the road directly behind the taxi, causing a passing car to brake sharply. The driver of this passing car was Julie, and Mrs Thomas saw her wave in apology to the man and then continue driving, before indicating into her driveway just a hundred yards further down. The man had been walking away from the direction of Julie’s house, but following the near miss then turned and retraced his steps. He was described as being stockily built, mid forties and wearing blue overalls and a checked shirt, with very prominent, extremely red cheeks.

Police sat up and listened when Julie’s children recounted a tale of an encounter that their mother had told them that she had had on the Friday before she was murdered which tallied with this sighting. Around 3:30pm that Friday afternoon, Julie had been alone in her house and was vacuuming upstairs when the doorbell rang. Expecting that it was the neighbours daughter that she minded after school, Julie shouted down for her to enter. Instead, she found a scruffy man standing in the hallway. He asked her for directions to another road on the estate and then left, passing the neighbours daughter as he was leaving. This man matched the description of “Overalls Man” exactly, even down to the vivid red cheeks – which was corroborated by the neighbours daughter also.

its possible that the person who murdered Julie had possibly stalked her, or in the very least watched the house over a period of days to learn her movements. 

In July 2015, Advances in DNA technology allowed scientists to extract an almost complete DNA profile of her killer from evidence found at the crime scene However, the DNA did not match anyone in the UK National DNA as of so far.

Janet, a 51-year-old married research nurse in Oxford was a mother to three children Zara, Benedict, and Roxane but only Roxane her youngest was still living at home at the time. Janet's husband Dr. Grahaem Brown, worked away in Switzerland as a senior executive and medical doctor for the pharmaceutical company Ciba-Geigy.

On April 10th 1995 Janet was home alone in Chiltern Hills, near Radnage in Buckinghamshire, as her daughter Roxane was staying at a friends house she went to bed early around 8 pm and not long after someone broke in, handcuffed her and hit her on the head repeatedly with a heavy object, no signs of sexual assault but she was found naked and police couldn't rule out a robbery gone wrong as a motive but nothing was stolen so it seems more likely this was a targeted attack for whatever reason.

Builders arriving for renovations discovered her naked body at the bottom of her stairs the next morning She was wearing lot's of Jewelry which police found odd since she was naked and had been in bed around the time of the murder and again since none of that was stolen robbery seems unlikely, the killer likely broke in by cutting and smashing a patio door.

During the attack, Mrs. Brown managed to trigger a bedroom panic alarm, but the killer took his time at the scene to wash his hands and roam the house. Thames Valley Police have identified an unknown DNA profile from the scene. So far no match has been found on the national DNA database which holds the DNA of almost six million people.

Forensic psychologist Paul Britton suggested that while 51-year-old Janet Brown was not sexually assaulted during her 1995 murder, the unknown killer's primary motive may have been sexual sadism. He theorized the attacker derived sexual gratification from dominating, terrorizing, and humiliating his victim.

The cold case investigators have also seen and eliminated more than one thousand other men as being the source of the DNA.

Mr Beirne said "It's very frustrating we haven't had a result as of yet, but we're optimistic and our hope is that the next time we knock on someone's door their DNA matches.

It has been 31 years since Janet's brutal murder and hopefully one day this will be solved since there is DNA.

Veronica Anderson, who was known as Vera was a 42 year old mother to two children a 19 year old daughter, Lorraine, and a 7 year old son, Neil who lived in Cheshire, UK and on Saturday 24 August 1991 Vera left her home in Widnes Cheshire at 10.10pm on Saturday 24 August 1991 after receiving a phone call (No one knows exactly who rang) But she seemed in a rush to leave right away and she emptied the boot of her car, knocked on a neighbors door and asked them to look after her young son while she popped out, she never said where and left.

Shortly after 3am on Sunday 25 August 1991, the 42-year-old was sadly found dead in her car off Tannery Lane in Penketh, Warrington. Ms Anderson had had her throat slit, there were ligature marks on her neck to suggest she had been strangled and injuries on her lower legs were consistent with her having struggled to fight off the killer. A chunk of her hair had also been pulled out.

A blood-stained white glove and a piece of cord, which appeared to be from a sash window, were left at the scene.

Speaking to the Liverpool Echo in 1991, then Detective Superintendent Keith Anderton said: “The glove was found during an intensive search of the area around where Mrs Anderson’s body was found.

“There was blood on it.

“We have had it tested by forensic scientists and it is the victim’s blood.

“We have concluded that it was worn by the killer.”

Police are also reported to have recovered a cartridge from a blank-firing handgun from the footwell of Ms Anderson’s car.

However, there has been no DNA recovered from the scene which could lead police to Ms Anderson’s killer.

And no motive for the murder has ever been uncovered there were no apparent signs of robbery or of a sexual attack.

Witnesses came forward to say that on the evening Veronica was murdered, at about 10:30pm, a woman strongly matching her description was seen in the company of a man at the Crown and Cushion pub on Warrington Road, Penketh. This pub was located very near to Veronica’s house, no more than a 10 minute drive away. It is also very close to where her body was discovered at the complex on Tannery Lane. Was this Veronica and her killer? The man she was with was described as being Caucasian, aged mid 30’s to early 40’s, having short cut mousy coloured hair, and having a neatly trimmed mousy coloured moustache. He was described as being of slim build with a thin face, appearing almost sunken at the temples. When seen with the woman who was possibly Veronica, he was wearing a fawn coloured jacket.
