Why do the air quality monitors say it’s “better” than yesterday, but looking out my window it’s clearly very smoky, seemingly worse than yesterday?

It’s not fog, it has a pink tinge to it. I’m on the westside.

Have you ever seen Terry Gilliam’s “Brazil” (1985)?

The main character, Sam Lowry, has a recurring dream where he is “a big ass man”—a winged hero flying through the clouds, saving a damsel. The scene reminds me of the temp job when Bee and Puppycat have to destroy the spying eyeball.

Some similarities I’ve noticed…

(I especially love the nod to Basquiat in the writings on the wall).

Been thinking about this film a lot after seeing it in the theater. I’ve heard about the concept over the years, but never paid much attention to it, then decided to see the movie on a whim.

It has stuck with me and I’ve been reflecting on it along with some similarities I’ve noticed between the movie and some other stories and films I enjoy…

“Backrooms”, “The Odyssey”, “As Above, So Below”, and “Vivarium”—all feature journeys through an impossible labyrinth of isolation in a surreal, hostile reality with deceptive or unnatural guides, a loss of time and identity, and characters that must have a psychological or spiritual transformation in order to return home or break a cycle.

Would love to hear other peoples thoughts or recommendations of similar movies.
