Ever wonder how those old Sims 1 objects actually worked? Eric Hedman (Lead Animator for The Sims) breaks down the "House Party" pack mechanics

Eric Hedman, Lead Animator on the original The Sims, just dropped a deep dive into the development of the House Party expansion.

It’s a fantastic look at the technical "smoke and mirrors" behind those classic interactive objects. From the mechanical bull and firepits to the cow-themed furniture, Eric explains how they balanced game design with technical limitations to make everything feel fun and compelling.

He covers how they handled complex animations using accessories, sprite manipulation, and the "visual tooth" of objects to make them look authentic. If you’re interested in early 2000s game dev history or just love The Sims, this is a must-watch.

Regarding Eric Hedman (Lead Animator of The Sims 1) and his recent account activity

I know many people in the community have noticed the sudden disappearance of Eric Hedman (the lead animator of the original The Sims) from the platform.

I have been in contact with him, and he asked me to clarify the situation for those who were interested in his insights. He mentioned that his previous account was banned following a disagreement with a moderator on another subreddit (specifically r/HighSodiumSims) regarding self-promotion.

He wanted the community to know that he did not abandon the discussion voluntarily. He is still very much open to answering questions about the development and animation of The Sims 1. As he is currently concerned about the potential for a new account to be flagged by automated systems, he is primarily active on his YouTube channel and available for direct contact via Discord.

If you have any technical questions or historical curiosities regarding the animation process of the game, feel free to reach out to him there. He is happy to continue sharing his knowledge with the community.

Does anyone have a save file right after the laser room in Chapter 13? I can't get past it. (Dead Space 2)

Hi everyone,

I'm currently stuck at the laser room in Chapter 13 of Dead Space 2.

I've tried multiple times, including using Stasis and sprint, but I still can't reach the next room before the lasers catch up to me.

Would anyone happen to have a save file from right after this section (or somewhere shortly beyond it) that they could share?

I'm playing on PC, Steam.

Thanks for any help!

Why does Paralives give people The Sims 2 vibes despite looking completely different?

Many people say that Paralives has the vibe of The Sims 2. I’d like to understand why, since the games look completely different.

Sims 2 fans need to watch this video

This came up on my feed and it’s such a great watch! It goes through so much early sims 2 content and bts stuff. There’s footage of the creators talking about the making of it, voice actors recording, and also loads of nearly lost promotional material from the time. It was also really funny

Did anyone else ever get a “death” WANT in The Sims 2?

Has anyone ever had a Sim in The Sims 2 get a WANT for someone to die? Not to see a ghost, but specifically for someone’s death? Maybe in the early expansions? Someone on X / Twitter had it happen. Fulfilling this want gives +10,000 aspiration points. The want is also shown on a red background, the same way fears are displayed. And judging by the screenshot, the player doesn’t have the FreeTime expansion installed, since there’s no lifetime aspiration meter in the UI.
