So does the AI cheat?
I've noticed a few times the AI seems to be able to respawn chiefs faster than I can, and at a frequency that suggests not using iron
I know in strategy games, often times the best way to keep an AI on par with a human is to give them a flat bonus, but this feels more noticeable
Cross of Vidar - not what I expected
Coming back to this game after a few years away, and having a much better time of it now than last.
Maybe a quality of life update happened, or I'm just in a better head space but I finished Rigs's saga and was enjoying it a lot more now than then.
Just hit Cross of Vidar and I can't help but feel like the gameplay is just...less.
The proper Old Norse pronunciation of the names is gone (which I LOVED in Rig's Saga), and the missions just feel confused.
I was expecting to have a mission for one of the new Kingdoms, similar to how Rig's Saga helped you learn how to play as the Clan of the Stag/Goat/Raven etc. Instead, it's always just Kingdom of the Lion.
Several of the missions felt weird for the sake of being different, for instance the stealth mini-game was just frustrating.
Even the voice acting is a step down. The lack of that soft "J" in the Norse words sounds wrong. Maybe you could argue it was from the point of view of a Neustrian instead of a Norseman, but then shouldn't a soft Norman/French accent be used?
Even having the two warchiefs was...a choice. Like I get what they were doing, trying to introduce the new clans alongside the new Kingdom mechanics, but I feel it could have been handled better. Maybe instead of choosing one of two Norse warchiefs, have the choice for each level be Neustrian Lord or Norse warchief, so you could see the two sets of mechanics against each other.
Anyone else feel this?
D&D [5e] [online][possibly irl][EST] Looking for two players to join existing group
I am currently a dm for a 5e dnd group. We play online and are currently taking a break. I'm looking for one or two players to join us so we have at least four every week.
We're located in Toronto Ontario, and I'm going to be prioritizing people around here
We play Sunday evenings for roughly 2 hrs a week. We aim to begin sessions at 8:30pm.
We are all adults, and to maintain tone I'm looking for similar aged people (early university up to mid 30s).
Playstyle wise, my campaign is lopsided towards roleplay and intrigue, but I try to create encounters that reward all of the DnD pillars.
If you want to play a murder hobo, we're not likely the ones for you, but there will be opportunities for combat orientated characters to shine.
Communication is important, and I like to check in at the end of sessions to see if everyone had fun, and what did/didn't work, so be open.

What actually good advice I've managed to glean
This is mostly a writing exercise for me to get my thoughts in a coherent order.
1) Be careful who you listen to
There's a lot of really bad advice out there: people teaching you how to weaponize other people's trauma, people giving advice to justify their own decisions, and people mistaking cynicism for wisdom.
Wading through that is exhausting — it takes energy to dismiss even advice that you know is bad. If you find certain people exhaust you, or give you advice that sounds wrong or unhealthy, don't spend time listening to them.
2) Dating isn't a game, but you should be playful
A lot of people tell you this, and it's always bothered me. Treating dating as a "game" implies there is an "optimal" way to play and a "wrong" way to play. That one of you wins and one of you loses.
This... isn't a healthy way to view relationships.
Instead, don't treat dating like a game, but you should be playful. Being confident enough to be playful is universally attractive, and I think people try to achieve this by thinking of dating as a game.
3) Being confident isn't what you think it is
Being confident isn't the attitude that you know everything and will always make the right decision. Being confident is being okay with making mistakes, and believing you'll still be okay afterwards.
A lot of people are sold the hyper-competent form of competence, and I suspect this is why a lot of people go for "bad-guys" and "bad-girls", especially when they're younger. The difference between someone confident enough to go against the grain because they've earned it and some who is just....an aggressive asshole are hard to differentiate when you're younger.
4) Being nice isn't always the same as being kind or good
There's a saying that "nice guys finish last", which....I have conflicting feelings about. The problem is people use the word "nice" in a very loose way.
Some people mean "nice" as in synonymous with "good and kind", people who say "nice guys finish last" with that meaning in mind have healing to do, often due to trauma where their nervous system was always on "alert" and they were never able to rest, and are likely going to repeat the same mistakes in relationships until they realize this. This is why you'll see people say "nice guys/girls are boring", they grew up with relationships where love was never certain and they were always walking on eggshells. When they encounter a relationship that let's them rest it does feel "boring", in the same way playing classical music after a metal concert feels boring, or playing a farming sim after a survival horror game would.
But "nice" can also mean someone who is inauthentically nice (i.e. buys dinner to have an excuse to sleep with someone), or "nice" in the sense of unable to set boundaries or have a hard conversation. These later two you should be more leery of, even if the second one is also likely dealing with trauma.
Instead, you should endeavor to always be kind and good. That means holding your friends accountable, or even losing them (which you will get criticized for), and treating yourself the way you treat other people.
5) Don't confuse chemistry with anxiety.
This is something that's very easy to do. The heightened waiting to hear from someone, the sudden release and catharsis when you do, the anxious waiting only to be rewarded with showers of affection can all feel like chemistry. This "push and pull" model creates anxiety and an alert stage coupled with relaxation and relief that can easily be confused with chemistry, even if the person isn't doing it intentionally.
Ideally, you should look forward to seeing your partner, without feeling anxious about.
6) Would you accept this behavior on behalf of a friend?
It's easy to make excuses or justify bad behavior when you're in a relationship, until you're out of it and look back and wonder why you put up with it for so long. It can be useful to "detach" from the situation, by taking a mental step back and asking, "What advice would I give a friend here? Or a sibling?" Sometimes that space can force you to see something you've been avoiding.
7) Listen to your gut and your head
Have you ever looked at something on paper and thought it looked good but your gut was in knots? Or felt chemistry with someone you know you shouldn't pursue? Ideally, your gut and head should both be at peace with your partner.
If they look good on paper, but your heart just isn't in the relationship, it likely never will be, even if they're a good match. Similarly, if your gut gives you a "hell yes" even if you're seeing red-flags, you should be doubly cautious about being with them.
The game should have been about the delving of Moria
I think that the game would have been better if it had been about the DELVING of Moria, rather than returning to it.
It was first delved in the First Age, when the world was young and undiscovered, Durin's folk no yet wearied, and both magic and monsters abounded. >!Which would explain the presence of dragons, cold or otherwise, in the game.!<
Players could dig and delve between natural caverns, aided by the procedural generation, with rangers being hired to scout out the depths. Natural stone caverns would slowly give way to cobblestone and manses. New tools and technologies could be researched, possibly by bringing new ores back to to be studied in camp.
It would give you a deeper sense of ownership. You wouldn't just be restoring Moria to it's former glory, you'd have a personal interest in each mansion and building erected. You wouldn't have to rebuild the Endless Stair, you'd help plot and build it.
And all of it would have had a certain....melancholy note, as you know what eventually becomes of Moria.
I understand the game was designed to be a tie in to both the books and movies, having call backs to the fellowship, marks left by Tharkun/Gandalf but honestly....I didn't feel like that added much, They could easily have cast J.R.Davies as Durin himself.>!if anything the implication that it was the same Watcher in the Water that the Fellowship faced made me roll my eyes.!<
So what's the point of pallets?
A pallet can hold 525 units of a material.
But a chest can hold several times that while taking up far less space so.........what's the point of pallets?
Growing my hair out for the first time, any advice?
I've always liked what my hair looks like long (it's red and think so at it's best I like to think it looks like a mane, especially with the beard), but I don't know the basics and I don't know what I don't know.
Any advice?
[TOMT] [Book] [90s] bronze age fantasy with dead gods
I'm looking for a book series I stumbled across in the library.
I remember there being a "dead" fire god whose worshipers were never in fear of their houses catching on fire if they built a fire indoors (or something similar)
I believe there was a city (or possibly a god) called Bull's Pizzle
I remember the war chariots being drawn by terror birds
Anyone know the series?
What do they mean "basic doesn't support SSL"
Surely SSL/HTTPS should be an either/or thing, not on a sliding scale (this after getting a "this website is not secure" message for a while
If Dragons are son's/shards of Akatosh....why are they evil?
Possibly an obvious answer.
The Nine Divines are pretty universally viewed and portrayed as benign/good. He intercedes on behalf of mortals, holds shut the doors of oblivion, and in general seems to concern himself with the well being of mortals.
However Dragons have an inherent "will to power" built into them, even enslaving mankind at one point before Kyne/Kynareth appealed to Paarthurnax, but they are also the children of Akatosh.
So....why? And if they are so different in temperament, why did Kyne have to appeal to Party-snacks....why didn't Akatosh himself intervene?
This is jerry please take him with you
I'm looking for book containing a specific image of two nanotyrannus' attacking a bipedal ceratopsian.
I remember it was from a book for children about dinosaurs, I think it was called "thunder lizards" or something similar, and had an image of a sauropod on the cover.
I distinctly remember the binocular eyes of one of the nanotyrannus' creeping me out as a kid.
They were a deep green, wit the ceratopsian being a sort of ochre/brown/orange colour
Does anyone know the book I'm remembering?
