I am a 29-year-old male with a BSc Biotechnology and an MSc in Environmental Science (EVS). After working in the sustainability sector for 5 years, I feel bored and am looking for a change.

I am considering pursuing a second MSc in Bioinformatics, followed by a PhD. However, I am worried about how Al might impact the field. Is this the right time to transition into bioinformatics? I would appreciate your insights.

Azhar S needs ₹8L to study Synthetic Biology in Spain

Hi, I’m Azhar from Karamadai, Coimbatore, Tamil Nadu, India. I’ve been accepted into the Master’s in Integrative Synthetic Biology at UIMP, Spain, in collaboration with CSIC. I want to return to biotechnology, especially synthetic biology and cancer research.

I come from a low-income farming family and have been trying to fund this myself. I also tried for a bank loan, but couldn’t get one due to my father’s previous loan affecting his credit history.

The tuition is around €6,000 and my payment deadline is August 13.

I’ve started a fundraiser for the tuition. Any help or sharing would mean a lot.

Seeking Advice on MUN MOHS Program and Career Prospects

Hello! I'm from India and I'm planning to pursue the Master of Occupational Health & Safety (MOHS) program at Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN), Canada.

I'd like to know about the current job market for OHS professionals in Newfoundland and across Canada, the cost of living in St. John's, and whether this program offers good career prospects after graduation. If you've studied the program or are familiar with the field, I'd really appreciate it if you could share your experience or any advice.

Thank you!

Advice Needed: MSc at Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo (UIMP) and Biotech Careers in Spain

I am a 29-year-old Indian student who has been admitted to the MSc in Integrative Synthetic Biology at Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo (UIMP). I have a few questions about career prospects in Spain:

  1. Will my age be a disadvantage when applying for PhD positions or industry jobs in Spain?
  2. During my PhD, I plan to gain experience in both wet-lab and dry-lab (computational biology/bioinformatics) research. Would this interdisciplinary profile improve my employability in academia and industry?
  3. What is the current job market like for synthetic biology, computational biology, and biotechnology in Spain, particularly for international graduates?
  4. How important is learning Spanish for securing PhD positions and industry jobs? Is English sufficient in research environments, or is Spanish essential for long-term career growth?
  5. As a non-EU citizen from India, what are the visa and work permit prospects after completing my MSc and PhD in Spain? Is it relatively straightforward to transition from a student visa to a work visa if I secure employment?

I would appreciate any insights or advice from people who have studied or worked in Spain, especially in the fields of synthetic biology or biotechnology.

Is it normal for someone to become distant after emotional attachment develops?

I had a 28 F Japanese friend whom I had known for about four months. During that time, we traveled together, including about 10 days in Vietnam. We were then apart for about two months before she came to India, and throughout that time, I felt we had built a close connection.

Later, we decided to travel together in Nepal and planned to do the ABC trek. The first week went well, but then, quite suddenly, she told me she wanted to continue traveling alone. We had an argument over it.

The next day, during the trek, I saw her spending time with some other guys. That really hurt because it felt as though she had no guilt about leaving me alone in the mountains and immediately moving on with other people.

When I confronted her, she told me that her interactions with other people felt "light," whereas our relationship had become emotionally much deeper. She said that the growing emotional attachment made her feel overwhelmed, and because of that, she believed it was better for us to separate and experience our journeys independently.

I'm trying to understand her perspective. Is it common for someone to become distant once they feel an emotional attachment growing? Is pulling away because a relationship starts to feel emotionally intense a normal reaction for some people?

29M | Sustainability Professional Looking to Move into Investing Through an MBA

  • M29, currently working remotely.
  • Educational background: B.Sc. Biotechnology and M.Sc. Environmental Science.
  • Around 5 years of experience in sustainability/ESG/carbon markets.
  • Current compensation: ₹25 LPA.
  • I'm considering doing an MBA to transition into the investing/finance domain.
  • Is this a realistic career move given my background?
  • I've received an admission offer from HSBA Hamburg School of Business Administration in Germany.
  • Is it worth pursuing an MBA there if my goal is to move into investing, asset management, private equity, venture capital, or related finance roles?
  • I don't speak German.
  • How much would that limit my chances of:
    • Finding a working-student job?
    • Securing internships?
    • Getting a full-time job after graduation?
  • Given that I'm already earning ₹25 LPA, does pursuing this MBA make financial and career sense?
  • Would you recommend this path, or are there better alternatives for someone with my profile?

MBA at UC3M and Career Prospects in Spain for Non-Spanish Speakers

I am a 28-year-old Indian considering pursuing an MBA at UC3M in Madrid. I do not speak Spanish at all, and I am trying to understand the quality of the MBA program and its career outcomes.

My long-term goal is to stay and work in Spain after graduation. How important is Spanish proficiency for finding a job in Spain after an MBA? Are there opportunities for English-speaking graduates, or is learning Spanish essential for most roles?

I would also appreciate insights from international students who studied at UC3M and remained in Spain for work.

Clarification on Eligibility for Environmental Manager (ANZSCO 139912) / Sustainability Manager Where Approximately 50% of Job Responsibilities Align with the Occupation Criteria

I hold a BSc in Biotechnology and an MSc in Environmental Science, and I currently work in the sustainability and carbon markets sector, with a focus on energy transition and climate-related projects. I am considering applying under Environmental Manager (ANZSCO Code 139912 – Group B), which also includes occupations such as Sustainability Manager.

While my professional experience aligns with several of the key responsibilities associated with this occupation, only around 50% of the listed duties directly correspond to my current role. I would like to understand whether this level of alignment is generally considered sufficient for occupation assessment purposes.

28M (Indian) and 28F (Japanese) met two months ago, recently grew close emotionally, and then ended up separating again.

https://www.reddit.com/r/relationship_advice/comments/1qvh919/28m_india_28f_japan_traveling_together_for_2_days/

The above links are the continuation of my story.

Me (28M) and my Japanese friend (28F) traveled together in Nepal during the first week of May. For around 10 days, everything felt normal and close between us. But slowly, her attitude started changing, and she began ignoring me little by little.

We had planned to do the ABC trek together, but on the way, she suddenly told me that she wanted to do it alone. I told her that even if we trek separately, we would still end up seeing each other again in the villages and tea houses along the route. She said she wanted to meet new people and talk to others. I replied that we could still do all of that together and that being with me didn’t stop her from meeting people.

Later during the trek, she started saying things like, “I’m not your pet or cat to control,” and “I feel like I’m losing my independence.” We even had arguments about it. What confused me more was that she quickly became friendly with three Nepali trekking guides she met on the way, while I suddenly started feeling like a stranger to her.

When I asked her if I was not even a friend to her anymore, she said that just because she cares about someone doesn’t mean she has to include them in everything. Then she told me that she had become emotionally attached to me, and that it was better for us to continue our journeys separately.

She also said that becoming emotionally attached to a man “she has no future with” was not a good thing, and that me being Muslim was a problem for her when it came to marriage and beliefs.

The strange thing is that until she mentioned marriage and “no future,” I didn’t think I had romantic feelings for her. But after hearing that, I started realizing that maybe I do have feelings for her now, and I honestly don’t know what to do.
