Should I sue my company for firing me on my first week?
Hi, I was working at a restaurant owned by a popular children’s entertainment company. The place has a lot of expensive attractions that people might want to steal so they have security guard positions. Anyway, I’m a chronically online Redditor that has a messed up sleep schedule so I signed up for the night shift where I basically just stare at security cameras all night.
I unfortunately signed a NDA so I can’t go into too many specifics but I’ll try to get the gist of it. This company is surprisingly a mess and very unorganized. On my first night I arrived a few minutes early and no one was there but they had given me the keys earlier that day so I could at least enter.
The “training” if you can call it that was ridiculous. When my shift started the person who was supposed to train me just gave me a phone call. He didn’t tell me anything about how the software worked or really how to do my job and instead spent the majority of the time talking about how some of their machinery might malfunction and be potentially dangerous. I kid you not, he straight up admitted that if an employee died the company would clean up everything and wouldn’t notify the police until WEEKS later. Feels illegal TBH and not a good look, especially for a company that’s had controversy over missing persons cases where they were last seen at their restaurants.
Anyway, this machinery he was ranting about sucked. It kept malfunctioning CONSTANTLY to the point where I couldn’t even do my job because it was actually risking my safety and a few times I think I almost died. The first night it wasn’t that bad but the machines just kept getting worse and worse, with each night being more dangerous than the last. Unfortunately, I’m in a really bad financial situation and they only pay minimum wage so I ended up working 2 extra shifts even though I was only supposed to be there for 5 nights each week.
I have an engineering degree but unfortunately haven’t been able to get a job there because apparently no one wants to work anymore. So I’ll admit, I tampered with their machinery even though I was explicitly forbidden from doing it. But I did it for my safety and then they had the audacity to FIRE me with a passive aggressive comment that I smelled bad.
Anyway, should I sue this company?
