The next door renovation is choking our store

We run a small shop in a mall. Last week, the unit right next to us started a full renovation. Thenthing I’m talking about is that walls were knocked down, new floors, the whole thing

Ever since, our shop has been a mess. There is a layer of dust all around. My finger can’t help but make a crinkling sound when I touch the counters. It’s everywhere like on the merchandise, the fixtures, everything. The cleaners sweep every day, yet the air feels heavy

Besides, the small is disgusting. The small is like a mixture of drywall dust and glue. Our clients have noticed. Even some of them cough and leave before time. It's embarrassing and honestly bad for our business

What should I do?

just spent 45 minutes trying to explain ICS to a guy who builds mobile command centers for a living

so i'm sitting here going through specs for this new deployable comms package we're supposed to get, and the manufacturer's rep keeps calling me back asking about incident command flow and i'm like dude, that's literally my job to figure out on-site, not yours

but then i actually looked at the trailer layout they sent over and ngl it's kind of... specific? like they have dedicated spots for mapping tables, separate power runs for radios vs computers, even a little fold-out bunk area that i definitely didn't ask for but now i want

anyway the whole thing started because i found a company idk i don't remember the exact name but they had these renderings that actually made sense for once. i was just trying to get a ballpark figure on lead times and ended up in a whole conversation about satellite uplink redundancy which honestly i know nothing about

point is, does anyone else feel like half these vendors just slap together a box on wheels and call it a command center? because i've seen some real garbage out there. meanwhile i'm over here trying to explain that we need to be able to see a whiteboard from more than 2 feet away but somehow that's a custom modification

maybe i'm just tired. been doing this too long

looking for a gift that's not just more stuff

my buddy's birthday is coming up and i'm stuck. hes the type who already has everything he wants buys whatever he needs right away so there's nothing left.

i've been thinking maybe something personalized? like a dog tag or bracelet with something engraved not flashy. just a small thing with a date or initials. something he could wear or keep in his pocket

maybe i'm overthinking. could just get him a gift card but that feels lazy.

what do you get for someone who doesn't want anything

didnt expect the legal stuff to be this stressful

so my cousin got into some trouble in vaughan a few weeks back and ive been helping him figure things out. nothing violent or anything but still serious enough that we couldnt just ignore it. i thought finding a lawyer would be straightforward but man was i wrong. everyone we called either wanted a huge retainer upfront or just seemed like they didnt really care.

we went to one place near wonderland and the guy literally spent 10 minutes with us, didnt even look at the papers we brought, and then quoted us like 5 grand just to start. like bro i get that you gotta make money but we're not made of cash. my cousin works retail and im doing freelance stuff, so dropping that kind of money isnt exactly easy.

the whole process made me realize how confusing this all is. like how are regular people supposed to know who to trust when everyone wants money upfront and you cant even tell if theyre good or not. kinda frustrating tbh

burned out from years on dating apps and not sure what to do next

i’ve been on and off dating apps for about five years now and it honestly feels like i’m stuck in the same cycle. i’ve had a few situationships that went on way longer than they should have, got ghosted more times than i can count, and the conversations rarely turn into anything real. at this point i’m exhausted from putting in effort and getting very little back.

i work as a nurse and my schedule is already pretty demanding, so when dating starts feeling like another job it really drains me. i’ve tried being more selective with who i match with and even took breaks, but every time i get back on it feels the same. i’ve even been looking into matchmaking services, the apps just aren’t giving me the kind of connections i want anymore.

how do you keep showing up on dating apps without burning out completely? and what changes have actually helped you get better quality matches instead of the same frustrating patterns?

spent way too much money on probiotics that dont last

I need to vent a bit. Ive probably dropped like $500 on probiotics over the past couple years. Every time I see a new one recommended I buy it. and every single time the same thing happens. works for a couple weeks, then nothing.

The worst part is how good those first few weeks feel. I start thinking maybe this is the one that finally fixes my digestion. maybe this time itll stick. and then week 4 comes around and im right back where I started. it honestly feels like a waste of money at this point.

Ive done some research trying to figure out why this happens. from what I can tell the bacteria in most probiotics dont actually stay in your gut. they just pass through and create some temporary benefits while theyre there. but once theyre gone the benefits go with them. the industry sells it like youre rebuilding your microbiome but the science seems to say otherwise.

I recently tried a different approach. someone mentioned postbiotics to me and I decided . no live bacteria, just the compounds probiotics produce. its been more consistent so far but im not getting my hopes up too much.

Im not really sure what the point of this post is honestly. just frustrated and curious if others have the same experience. and if anyone found something that actually works long term please tell me cause im about done with this whole supplement game.

What are the typical income and credit requirements for a $90,000 car loan in Australia?

I saw a young driver in a RAM ute worth about $90k and got curious about the lending criteria.

For a loan of this size in Australia, what do lenders typically require in terms of:

  • Minimum annual income?
  • Credit score?
  • Deposit size?
  • Debt-to-income ratio?

I understand brokers can shop around to multiple lenders, but I'm asking about the actual baseline requirements that most mainstream lenders use.

Not looking for opinions on whether it's smart or not – just the factual lending standards.

Is Australia actually better than the UK, or am I just romanticising it?

I keep hearing people in the UK talk about moving to Australia like it’s some kind of life upgrade button. Had this conversation at work twice this week. Same complaints every time: wages here don’t go far, rent is a joke, buying a house feels like something only people with rich parents can do, the NHS is falling apart, trains are useless, and everyone seems permanently tired. Can’t really argue with most of it tbh.

But then Australia gets brought up like it magically fixes all of that. Better salaries, more sun, proper work-life balance, people actually finishing work and going to the beach instead of just doom-scrolling on the sofa until Monday comes round again. I’m not trying to be negative. I actually like the UK in some ways. My family is here, my friends are here, and I don’t hate my life. But I’d be lying if I said the idea of starting fresh somewhere warmer doesn’t get into my head sometimes. The problem is I don’t know how much of it is real and how much is just British misery making anywhere else look amazing.

Are people in Australia actually doing better financially? Are houses remotely affordable near places with decent jobs, or is that fantasy-land stuff? Is healthcare easier to deal with? Do people really have better balance, or are they also stressed, broke and sitting in traffic, just with nicer weather?

The practical side is weirdly what makes it feel real -not just visas and jobs, but stuff like whether I’d ship furniture with pss removals or just sell everything and start again with a mattress and regret. Or even “would removals take my boxes or am I becoming one of those people who moves continents with kitchenware?” which feels slightly unhinged, honestly.

For people who moved from the UK to Australia, was it genuinely a better life, or just a different set of problems with more sunshine?

Need advice for iceland trip!

We are planning our first trip to Iceland at the end of June for 9 days. We want to explore the Golden Circle, drive the south coast, and see as many waterfalls and hot springs as we can while the days are long and bright.

Organizing everything on our own looks pretty complicated with all the logistics, so we have been researching vacation packages that include tours, hotels, and transportation.

I saw that guidetoIceland.is offers some really good holiday packages for first time visitors.

Has anyone booked a vacation package for Iceland before? Which ones would you recommend and any tips for traveling in June?

When did u stop packing Shopify orders yourself?

I sell gym accessories on Shopify, mostly lifting straps and resistance bands. Been doing it about a year now and averaging around 150 orders a week. In the begnning I liked packing everything myself cause it felt like part of building the brand and I could make sure every order looked right

Lately tho its taking over my whole day. I’ll sit down to work on ads or email campaigns and then suddenly im printing labels for 3 hours and taping boxes. Had one customer last week order smth and turns out the stock count was wrong, had to message them and explain which was kinda embarrasing

Been checking warehousing companies in india cause some connect right into Shopify and handle fulfillment

At what point did u guys hand it off? Wish I knew earlier what the normal move here is...

2013 jetta tdi. rough idle and long crank. hpfp maybe?

been dealing with this for like a month now. cold starts are fine. but after the car warms up and i shut it off, it cranks for like 5 seconds before starting. rough idle too. like its missing or something. no cel though which is weird.

took it to a local shop and they said could be fuel pump, could be injectors, could be sensor and wanted to charge me just to diagnose. no thanks.

i did some reading and saw that the hpfp on these can fail slowly. not the catastrophic boom everyone talks about. just gradual loss of pressure. that kinda matches what im seeing.

was looking at replacement pumps online last night. found one for a decent price. still not sure if thats the problem though. has anyone had similar symptoms and actually fixed it? what was it?

Thought we found the perfect lot for our forever home… nope

My wife and I and for years we’ve talked about building our own house someday…

I’m not talking about some giant mansion, just a place designed exactly the way we want it. You know, like a proper grow old here kind of house

We already have a house now and it’s fine, but it’s never really felt like us, you know? More like a place we ended up in rather than something we chose for the long haul

We spent forever looking at existing homes and every single one felt like not something that would suit us and our lifestyle. Wrong layout, tiny garage, awkward kitchen, no natural light, weird backyard… always something... So… we figured maybe building from scratch wasn’t such a pipe dream after all, so we started looking for land instead.

A few months ago we found a nice lot through a local real estate agency. Quiet area, good views, close enough to town without feeling packed in. The agent kept reassuring us it was perfect for building a house, said people were buying in that area specifically for new homes, so we decided to buy it

The most terrible part of this story is that when we started getting the paperwork part for construction approvals, we found out that there are restrictions that mean we can’t build a house there at all. Still trying to understand the full situation, but I think this should’ve absolutely come up before the sale

At this point I genuinely don’t know what the move is

Try to sell the land and cut our losses? Fight it somehow?

anyone else’s dog act like you’re abandoning them for good when you just go take a shower?

my dude will literally sit outside the bathroom door and let out these dramatic sighs like he’s paying the mortgage. i’m gone 15 minutes. comes running in after like i just got back from war.

does your dog do the full guilt trip over literally nothing or is mine just extra?

I forgot my friend's birthday just three hours before, what can I do??

not one of my proudest moments. realized around 11 a.m. that it was his birthday. obviously, there was no time left for any physical gifts. bank transfer seemed too impersonal.

I did have some crypto, but converting it into fiat currency wasn't going to be easy. ended up finding a platform that does gift cards paid in crypto, picked spotify because i know he uses it, paid, got the code in email within maybe 8-10 minutes, sent it over with a message. he was happy. i felt slightly less terrible than i deserved to. the "instant delivery" thing i was skeptical about but it actually worked. the code actually popped up even before I was done typing the birthday message, in any case.

set reminders in your calendar. but then again, if you are as disorganized as I am and the only form of payment you have on hand is crypto, this particular combination proves to be very helpful. netflix, amazon, steam, ubereats. good variety for different kinds of people.

what do other people do in terms of gifts?

why do relatives always ask life questions at the worst possible moment?

why do relatives always suddenly ask deeply personal questions during completely random situations. like youre peacefully eating food and suddenly someone asks about relationships career marriage children or your entire future in front of everyone. why is this such a universal family experience?

Accidentally caused a bathroom fire and now I can’t even stand being in the house anymore

I left a curling iron plugged in in the bathroom before leaving for work and it was totally by accident. The house ended up causing a fire. Thankfully nobody got hurt… the damage was mostly contained to the bathroom area, but the whole experience freaked me out

The house itself is still okay overall and there’s nothing horribly wrong with it from what I’ve been told

But mentally? I don’t even like being there anymore. Every time I leave the house now, I double-check outlets, appliances, everything like five times. I wake up in the middle of the night convinced I left something on. It sounds ridiculous, but I’m still worried

People tell me to renovate the bathroom and put the house back on the market like normal, but I just don’t have the energy for it. All these insurance calls, cleanup, contractors, and reliving the whole thing over and over again draining me

At this point I’d rather just move on with my life

I saw that JDub buys houses in basically any condition, which got me wondering if it’s actually realistic to sell a fire-damaged place without fixing it first.

Has anyone here done that before? Did buyers completely lowball you, or is selling as-is actually more common than I think?
