I forgot my friend's birthday just three hours before, what can I do??

not one of my proudest moments. realized around 11 a.m. that it was his birthday. obviously, there was no time left for any physical gifts. bank transfer seemed too impersonal.

I did have some crypto, but converting it into fiat currency wasn't going to be easy. ended up finding a platform that does gift cards paid in crypto, picked spotify because i know he uses it, paid, got the code in email within maybe 8-10 minutes, sent it over with a message. he was happy. i felt slightly less terrible than i deserved to. the "instant delivery" thing i was skeptical about but it actually worked. the code actually popped up even before I was done typing the birthday message, in any case.

set reminders in your calendar. but then again, if you are as disorganized as I am and the only form of payment you have on hand is crypto, this particular combination proves to be very helpful. netflix, amazon, steam, ubereats. good variety for different kinds of people.

what do other people do in terms of gifts?

why do relatives always ask life questions at the worst possible moment?

why do relatives always suddenly ask deeply personal questions during completely random situations. like youre peacefully eating food and suddenly someone asks about relationships career marriage children or your entire future in front of everyone. why is this such a universal family experience?

Accidentally caused a bathroom fire and now I can’t even stand being in the house anymore

I left a curling iron plugged in in the bathroom before leaving for work and it was totally by accident. The house ended up causing a fire. Thankfully nobody got hurt… the damage was mostly contained to the bathroom area, but the whole experience freaked me out

The house itself is still okay overall and there’s nothing horribly wrong with it from what I’ve been told

But mentally? I don’t even like being there anymore. Every time I leave the house now, I double-check outlets, appliances, everything like five times. I wake up in the middle of the night convinced I left something on. It sounds ridiculous, but I’m still worried

People tell me to renovate the bathroom and put the house back on the market like normal, but I just don’t have the energy for it. All these insurance calls, cleanup, contractors, and reliving the whole thing over and over again draining me

At this point I’d rather just move on with my life

I saw that JDub buys houses in basically any condition, which got me wondering if it’s actually realistic to sell a fire-damaged place without fixing it first.

Has anyone here done that before? Did buyers completely lowball you, or is selling as-is actually more common than I think?
