I really like this n wanna print it out, but idk. thank you!!!
A friend of mine is at the hospital, n we went to visit her today. She’s starting uni in Sept, and my other friend n I were kinda hyping her up yk. But honestly, just the thought of going back is killing me (I’m starting second year).
Like, I love my degree (international relations). I couldn’t love it more actually. And I love my classes so much. I’m so incredibly lucky to be in the uni I’m in. There’s litt only 40 spots in my degree, and out of 2k people that applied, I was chosen. No waitlist or anything.
But here’s the thing. I moved countries senior year of hs, specifically so I could get a shot at a better uni (I wanted either poli sci or this) and that was GREAT. It was a hs from my country of origin but settled in this new one. Same culture n language. Sure, a bunch of students were kids of diplomats or military personnel, but a good chunk were just immigrants that were too old to integrate into a school in a whole new language.
Fast forward to uni, and it couldn’t be more different. EVERYONE IS RICH. And listen, no hate to rich kids, no one chooses their parents right, but they’re just so different from middle-class people?? Like wdym u buy a 10-15€ lunch EVERY DAY?? Wdym go to bars every Friday and Saturday? Wdym 40 bucks for jeans is okay? A normal fun hangout w my friends, is maybe walking around, maybe drinks in a park with a JBL, and when I told them this they looked at me weird? Also tell me why some of these people’s first time drinking was at the WELCOME PARTY HELLO? Like, I’m not defending underage drinking but what. Did u not go outside as a teen?? Lol I told them I snuck out to a party once at 16 and they looked at me like I killed a horse NOT defending my actions but come on u can get good grades and have fun
It’s so hard for me to connect w them. On another hand, since I’m foreign I don’t speak a bunch in class, and for some reason these bitches treat me like I’m stupid!! For ex, I was sitting next to this dude one day, and idk we were talking yk small talk. So he asks what music I like, I say mostly reggaeton n Latino trap, he’s like side-eyes me but okay. He liked some rock band idk. Then we talked about books, n I said I really liked dystopia, science fiction, the whole world-in-crisis shenanigans. And he was like me too!! So here I thought FINALLY I can connect w these people. He tells me: I love Fahrenheit 451, a book I dislike very much (lol I had to write a philosophy essay on this, couldn’t finish the book, whole thing was basically a rant). And yk what he tells me?? OH U DON’T LIKE IT BCS UR AMERICAN N U DON’T GET IT??? And I kid u not this wasn’t even a joke 😭 Girl what the fuck is that supposed to mean
Like, overall, I’m a VERY extroverted person. I love talking to others and won’t bite my tongue at all. But this has truly been a culture shock. Deadass I have like 1/2 a friend in class bcs ion even think she likes me like that. and since I don’t have people to talk to I get really lonely n sad. I’ve had some what I think are panic attacks?? and I hate it. it’s like my chest grows small and my stomach turns n I cry. I’ve never ever felt like this before. how do introverts do it fr I need people around me😭 ik this is a rant but help guys really. My mom says I need to learn to be around people like this bcs “thatll be my job in the future.” But Deadass I can’t I really cant
helloooo I’m going to the Paris concert n I got barricade :) i want to be close but not like first rows?? bcs ik people will be pushing n shoving n I don’t want my cortisol spiked 😭 it starts at 8 so I was thinking 5-5:30?? BUT ITS IN OCT SO ITS GOING TO BE COLD and it’s not in a area ik too well either idk help pls
hey shotties!!
I’m going to see them in paris and I really don’t know. I was thinking since its jay park maybe what id where to the club (ive never seen him live but since his songs r more mature n yk people throw bras n stuff on stage)? BUT since it’s hiphop idk streetwear? I’ve never been to a hiphop concert tbh soo idk what you wear to that. And also, since Lngshot r young I don’t want to be too crazy 😭 im around their age thooo 🫣🫣🫣 UGH idk bcs I do love dressing up what r u doing?
im tryna get my bf to get it but we want to see pictures of it on other people just in case it doesnt suit him :) thank u coerss
Hey guys!!
im currently looking for avatar 2009 uncut version. ik they used to have it on solarmovies, but since its shut down... Ive tried a bunch of different sites, but they all show the new ver. Any recs? thanks :)
Every year when it gets hot, my skin loses that smooth feeling and I get this bumpy texture. It shows up on the sides of my nose (lots of tiny, closely-packed little bumps), rght side of my jaw (fewer bumps, but noticeably bigger) and my cheeks (smaller and more numerous higher up near my nose, fewer but slightly bigger lower down toward my jaw). BUT it disappears once the tmp lowers again?
I'm guessing it's clogged pores from extra oil production, heat, and sweat, but I'm not 100% sure, and the jaw part especially makes me wonder if it's hormonal, though I've been on the pill for a few years and never really had any reactions?
Any go-to skincare routine/products for congested, textured skin in summer? I also really like homemade masks (I make them for my hair n body), so anything that worked for you?
I've been thinking about this for a while, and with the criticism CORTIS's recent concert has been getting, I wanted to share my two cents (Side note: this isn't part of the concert discourse. I do think it was disrespectful that some K-fans reportedly had their phones out the whole time, though that's a topic for another post).
Before anyone comes for me: I'm a COER, I love the boys' music, I own their albums, and I think they have the potential to go somewhere really big. I just don't think HYBE is handling this correctly.
For context, I listen to a lot of trap, rap, and underground music (particularly in Spanish, since that's my native language). That said, I've also been into K-pop since 2022. I've been an Atiny, a Stay, a Moa and a Bunny. I stopped listening to the genre because of bullying irl, and I came back with CORTIS. I loved the concept: “youthful, cool kids trying to put their music out there, being teenagers, etc,” which we saw in COTL. Songs like "Fashion" and "GO" were greattt, and I think that's where they started tiptoeing into the hip-hop essence they clearly want to move toward.
Here's the first problem: CORTIS comes from a company that puts out whatever's trending. Their debut song, "What You Want," was reportedly written for Trainee A, so wayyyyy before CORTIS even existed, way before the members had any say in it. No matter how much they lean into the "authentic self-expression" angle now, it doesn't feel real — because it was built for them, not FROM them.
For example, another thing CORTIS did to “connect with the youth” was to show that they thrifted. But the hip-hop artists I listen to didn't dress secondhand before they were big because they liked it. Some of that might be personal taste, sure, but a lot of it comes from genuinely not being able to afford big names. One of my favorite singers, Darkeer (he's goated, go check him out), recently had his phone stolen and asked fans to buy some of his clothes so he could get another one. You can tell when thrifting is survival vs when it's a curated, trending concept.
That's the core of it: trap and hip-hop culture comes from being yourself in a world that doesn't want to hear you, and that fight to be heard. that's what CORTIS is trying to tap into — but the difference is they come from a major studio, with a fanbase used to pop, not to a "niche" underground show where you pay 20 bucks to see someone perform at a club.
Quick caveat: I didn't watch the clips myself, so take this with a grain of salt. But from what I saw people discussing, YCC was played five times at the concert. That could work at a rap show with a crowd used to that kind of repetition — but these are K-pop fans (pop being core part of the word lol). At one point, the members reportedly asked what song they wanted to hear. Fans were yelling for a slow song, and instead they got yet ANOTHER round of YCC. Like come on.
I hate to make this comparison, but since both are 5th-gen groups with a similar concept, I think it's worth noting: LNGSHOT. Everything about them is steeped in that culture (look at the Wasted Area thing they did recently). They have that Hiphop background. If CORTIS actually wants to separate itself from the idol identity, they need to start doing stuff like that.
And it really doesn't help that a group that just debuted is being taken to Dior and Louis Vuitton shows during PARISFASHIONWEEK. It feels fake, especially while they're trying to "relate to the youth" — no average young person can afford those things. A brand like streetwear brand like Supreme would've made more sense (though still a stretch not even one year into debut). If you want that connection with hiphop fans, you need to show some struggle, some rawness. You can't have it both ways.
As much as I hate to admit it, I think Max Proxy was right on this one: these are songs coming out of a studio with around 20 producers credited on a single track. That's not really "real", no matter how much CORTIS wants us to believe it is. How do you fully express your own point of view when 20 people are making the song alongside you?
LNGSHOT, by comparison, has some real hip-hop grounding, and the spaces Jay Park puts them in are helping slowly establish a solid identity and a loyal fanbase. Tbh I think LNGSHOT has exactly the kind of fanbase CORTIS wants.
Overall, there are two forces pulling against each other here, and eventually something has to give: the company pushing the K-pop idol machine, and the members, who clearly want to be seen as "hip and cool“ lol. The thing is, the company always has the final say, so that tension isn't getting resolved anytime soon.
The boys need to find their actual audience before doing anything else — before running a concert without enough songs to fill it, and before forcing a concept on a fanbase that doesn't want it.
EDIT: MB I'm sorry I thought "What u want?" was written for trainee a sorryyy my point still stands though
EDIT 2: One thing that's kind of bugging me in these comments is people saying that I'm glazing LNGSHOT and that I'm not a real COER. Neither of those things is true. I'm a huge fan of CORTIS — the first thing I did with my summer salary was buy both of their albums. Since they don't include posters, I bought fanmade ones. I'm trying to get resale tickets for their new tour. That being said, being a fan doesn't mean you can't criticize a group.
The main thing I'm trying to say is that I think the CORTIS concept doesn't work because their fanbase is K-pop fans, while the boys are seemingly leaning toward more hip-hop n "keep it real"
As for the point I made about "What You Want" being written for Trainee A — I want to be clear that I did not watch the documentary, and I'm NOT planning to. I also don't watch vlogs or interviews from EITHER group, or really consume anything outside of the music itself. Things come across my feed on social media ofc, so I see clips here and there, but I don't actively watch the content they put out.
The main reason for that is because part of why I stopped listening to K-pop back in the day was bullying, and bcs I used to spend so much time on it n I got wayyy too attached: if a group didn't win an award and the members cried, I'd cry; if they won and cried, I'd cry too. That wasn't healthy, so now I keep myself more detached from groups. Kill me for doing so
As for the producer credit thing, Idk if song was made with 20 producers, I'm paraphrasing what Max Proxy said. Do I see it as a problem? After reading you guys, it’s still not my cup of tea (why do u need soo many people to help with YOUR art?) but, if it makes a good song, it makes a good song. What I don't agree with is them presenting it as if it's “self-made”, when its not.
LONGG post tbh sorry :/
