Was I wrongfully withdrawn from an online community college class?
Hi everyone, I’m looking for advice from anyone who has experience with OTC or community college policies.
I was taking an online summer course at OTC that was my final credit needed to graduate. The course started June 8 and ended August 1. I fell behind and missed some assignments for about 2 weeks, which I take responsibility for.
However, when I logged back in, I found out I had been administratively withdrawn from the course. I wasn’t sent a warning, email, or notification that I was at risk of being dropped. I only found out because I could no longer access the course materials.
I emailed my professor explaining the situation and asked if there was any possibility of being added back since this was my last required class before graduation and I’m starting a graduate program this fall. She told me she does not allow students back into her classes once they’ve been administratively withdrawn.
I understand that missing assignments is on me, but I’m wondering if anyone knows:
Is this normal procedure for OTC?
Are instructors required to give a warning before an administrative withdrawal?
Is there an appeal/review process?
Who should I contact besides the professor (advisor, department chair, etc.)?
Has anyone had luck getting reinstated or finding another solution?
I’m not trying to blame anyone. I’m just trying to figure out what options I have because this affects my graduation timeline.
Thanks!
