Spent my own $ traveling for an interview, hired an H1B instead

Spent ~$1500 traveling for an interview after saying I lived in other location for a decent paying job. Got sidelined and company hired a South Asian H1B instead of American. Now they want me to interview for a nearly identical role. Never travel on your own dime for a company. Broke my own golden rule. But after 15-18 months not working, living with my parents at mid 30s. Top 10 universities BS/MS engineering. Worked for top companies 15 years. I’m really struggling to stay positive now.

First actual emergency braking

Cruising two lane road 50-55mph. Boomer Jerry in a Toyota Avalon backs out his driveway.

Got bike upright from slight lean. Two finger emergency braking with both brakes. Downshifted from 5-4. Was covering brake beforehand with two fingers

Stopped ~10ft short of Jerry’s Avalon driveway.

ABS kicked in.

Poor form: Stalled bike at stop, didn’t check rear views until stopped.

Other improvements?

After I stopped and had a heart palpitation Jerry backed out his Avalon. Unsure if he saw me until I stopped or not.

Besides Obese Boomer Jerry and his Avalon it was a lovely morning coffee ride, ~2 hours, perfect New England summer day.

Lesson learned

Went for a coffee ride today. Working on my highway riding, went to pass an SUV and was checking my rear view mirror, then noticed a disintegrated truck tire in my path. Always be scanning ahead and quick mirror checks back. Any other feedback for me?

XSR900 or Tracer for cross country?

I’m planning on crossing the U.S. from NYC to LA. My heart is telling me XSR900, but brain is saying Tracer 9. Anyone done long distance with the XSR900? Any tips? I’m thinking minimizing interstate highways and prioritizing two lane scenic roads. 38M, 155lb 5 9”, so most bikes are comfortable for me.

New Ninja

Second bike, had a CRF300L rally before. Then decided dirt wasn’t my thing. Going to enjoy New England summer & perfect weather.
